Michael was so intellectually mature to sing a song like this at 18. Written by the great Stevie Wonder, even though it leans a little heavily on Jazz/Quiet Storm, you can hear a little reggae/dubstep at certain parts. Very captivating song, its like you are taken on a journey. I remember buying the CD in 1995 and I always visualized the song, its a cloud like environment, with gorgeous sunsets leading to heights where you seeing the night stars twinkle, there are dimensions that become reflections of Michael singing the beauty of his significant other, its cool and refreshing place, the video ends as they disappear behind clouds, leaving only the night filled with stars. I believe 'Heaven can wait' is the successor/companion to this song.

The decorative nuances and breathing embellishments act as if some sort of punctuation to the melody. Relishes locked into the rhythm so incredibly fantastic it’s like its natural sounding or as you suggested ‘pure’. It’s sparse enough to be minimalist yet in a sophisticated enough manner to be undeniably recognizable as his own sound. I find it interesting to hear other musicians sing the same songs as him and while there’s plenty who can really sing and arguably equally ‘pure’, I haven’t heard anyone apply what Michael does that takes R&B or Pop songs to the epitome of what’s possible vocally. I’m not a singer but I can appreciate the guy definitely has developed this ‘instrument’ called voice to what became a timeless and universally enjoyable celebrated experience that I doubt will ever be forgotten by mankind. Bach like status if ya know what I mean. People be diggin this 300, 3000 to 30,000 years from now I can totally imagine.
