Great review, bro. I own both of these and was under the assumption that they were exactly the same aside from the differences you pointed out. However, immediately after testing them, i noticed a pretty obvious difference. The MK1 Fightstick felt better. Especially when i pressed the buttons. After a little research, i discovered that the MK1 Fightstick was made with cherry switches, and the MK9 version was not. To any old school gamer who grew up playing these games in the arcade, we can tell the difference. For that reason alone, the MK1 version is superior to the MK9. 👊

@MichaelVarcade I have a hard time playing MvC2 and I have a modded madcatz stick with Sanwa parts. I have no issue playing it on the arcade with the Happ sticks. I like the springy-ness of American style sticks. Also, most US machines are made out of wood, while Japanese machine are Metal. A good wooden machine just feels right. Keep up the great work. I'm digging your videos so far.

You are correct in your assessment that the original stick is better. They both use HAPP parts but in the early 2000s HAPP started outsourcing their parts to China and it's generally accepted that the pre-China HAPPs are better.

One thing I did see on Madcatz website that i though was cool; you can buy a new panel for your TE stick that lays out he buttons for MK style. If these sticks did the same for SF style, I'd ditch the madcatz and buy me one of these.

Great review. Where as I prefer Capcom's button layout, I've always preferred Happ butons and sticks over Sanwa/Seimitsu. I just like the way Happ sticks snap back over Japanese clicking. I also prefer convex buttons over concave, but MK didn't really need those style of buttons.

Dammit I wish i was able to pick one of these up. I grew up with the home versions and there never was a local arcade for me to practice with on a stick.

Yeah the classic stick is much harder to mod. I know Ito over at Retroware TV broke his while trying to open it. Amazing Name BTW. I am a big Golden Axe fan. The arcade "Revenge of Death Adder" is my favorite.

@SPac316 I know :P I saw it as i was uploading the video to you tube. I was like "damn! He beat me to it!" Its crazy that we both used our machines to compair to the stick.

would you recommend that stick for a MAME cabinet?

Love the Video and Comparison. Wish I had gotten them when I had money back then! I was wondering, could i use partial footage of your comparison video in a video of my own? (I'll give credit and link you obviously) It's going to be comparisons of NRS pre order bundles.

@TheTrueDecepticreep Then i would look into a X-arcade Solo pad. Its built to the same quality as this stick and works for all systems Dreamcast and forward. They have the Classic 90s style . . .every thing and they have the street fighter layout

Ito just reviewed this Joystick on Retroware also.

@TheTrueDecepticreep Yeah i always joke with people who play on stick and say "its cause i grew up in the arcade" because any one who is my age who grew up in the arcade playing street fighter and MK should know that the buttons were concave and the joysticks were bat tops. The TE sticks are great, but that is nothing like old arcade machines. I like the pdp because its the first stick to come out sense Xarcade that actually stays true to the 90s arcade style.

@kagemusha7777 I think an X-arcade would be better. X-arcade is built a bit better and has a more universal buttton layout

its sad but no. I have heard there are programs you can download to make your PC recagnise the stick, but at the end of the day. . . no
