We've used The Shade Store twice in three rooms, primarily for solar roller blinds but also one with drapes and we were exceedingly happy with the experience and results. We had one problem with one window and they were impressive in how dedicated they were to getting everything done right. That said, they are absolutely a premium provider and probably have among the highest prices among consumer-direct window treatment companies (as opposed to working with someone through a decorator). We worked with them because we're in our forever home and knew that we'd be living with what we chose for a very long time. Keep in mind that all the custom measuring and installation is included in the price and they only use top materials. I would add that in my experience, window treatments are always among the most expensive items when it comes to interior decorating. Maybe it's all the custom labor throughout the process. Who knows? But since this will be in a guest room and not in a room getting daily use, if it were me, I'd get a couple more quotes. Also, The Shade Store regularly has good sales throughout the year,e.g., 20% off an entire order, and if you're not in a hurry, it's worth the wait. That's what we did each time we used them. As a few others have suggested I think you would benefit greatly working with an interior designer. My house isn't as big as yours, it is 3600 sq ft and I like to think I m quite good in the home decor area, I have owned several houses and in each one I always felt i was just missing "something". I finally hired an interior decorator when we built this house and THAT is what I was missing. She saw things and suggested things i likely never would have considered but I LOVE. They also have a huge line of companies they work with as far as having custom drapes or blinds, custom cushions, these are the things that in the end really help to pull a space together. I worked in retail/fashion for over 30 years so I really felt I was good at decorating my homes and all circle of friends and family would say how much they loved my decor, BUT until I finally took the leap and hired an interior designer I just never felt any of my homes was "finished" if that makes sense. They are wonderful at creating phases in your journey, so you don't have to shell out a huge amount of money at once, you set the budget and they work in that budget and if you say for this quarter this is the budget, next quarter this is the budget, they can help plan those spends, and for many things such as custom drapes and blinds they may have a 4 -6 mos lead time, so you would only spend part of that cost in one phase of the plan and the remainder when they are finished. The other great thing about working with someone who does this for a living, they know what the prices are in general for things like custom drapery. Lastly, when you put in your light in the room with the cathedral ceilings, make sure they put it on a switch that lowers the light fixture down for cleaning. Unfortunately I did not have anyone suggest this to me and i have a massive crystal chandelier that I now have to rent scaffolding to clean, super de duper. Its been ten years, I clean it as best as I can with a jacked up duster on a long handle and pray I don't fall over the banister when I am cleaning it, most days it looks like it just came out of the bowels of the Phantom of the Opera setting , lol.

Hi Michele, a suggestion for your kitchen desk. Buy a matching chair to your barstools and this will carry the color across the room. It also looks like you can fit 5 barstools and odd numbers look best in design.

I succumbed to hiring an interior designer as well! For the longest time I was very adamant that I can do it myself, I know what I like etc etc. you really need to find somebody who shares your aesthetic vision, but when you do it’s magic! I also suggest checking The Soft Minimalist Home book by Abi Dare out, minimalist house doesn’t have to be sterile and character-less. It can be warm and inviting too!

Hi Michelle. The house looks great. Im decorating now, too. I initailly went The Shade Store and chose fabrics in B and C for my bedroom . One quote was 3200 and the other was 4400. I ended up making an appointment with Blinds to Go. They have expanded to now include drapery. I chose a lovely fabric. I saved approximately 1100.00.

Michelle , I suggest you read the NYT article (June 10 24) The Napoleon of your Living Room about RH... I think you will find it interesting. Visually, your LR rug seems longer than the width of the room but I hope I am wrong and you can switch it around. And honestly, I think for the money you are investing in this furniture, you should get some Interior Design help ...for peace of mind and to avoid costly mistakes, It will help you with options and finishing touches you would not even think of.Just have to find a good match , a kindred spirit who will understand what you want :)))) You can do it!

Coffee-wise, that machine and system do look nice. I have had many iterations of systems and now we have both a Keurig and an espresso machine. If those ever go down, I will think about that Nespresso dual system. I like the colors you have blended in each of the rooms -- appropriate for the style of the house, from what I can see. I have inherited a lot of antiques from three generations so my decor is what I refer to as Sutton Place, but not necessarily because it is ideal, but because I can't justify replacing the furnishings and the history, LOL. I think matching the decor to the environment is smart and you've done that. In fact, it all provides a great backdrop for Butters! Window treatments are exorbitant, in my experience, especially here in LA. Even the rods are a fortune! What is up with that? That pricing seems about right to me. 😍😍

I like those lamps under my cabinets in my kitchen, I can't stand the canned kitchen light. At night it's so amazing. I also keep a small lamp in my master bath. It dims,cand is perfect for a nighttime light, makes it more of a room, less cold.

I have a nespresso vertuo machine. I love it. It's more for survival for me for when I need coffee quick. I cant be bothered with a proper coffee machine. My faves are the double espresso dolce (double shot, great with a splash of milk), and costa rica if i want to nurse a mug. I find intensity level 6 or 7 are great for a mug, anything above is too bitter to drink black, for me anyway.

I too am a color minimalist in my decorating. I love that you tied your caramel stools in your family room with the caramel sofa in the formal living room. Your walls are large enough so that you could have a statement art piece that would tie the two rooms together using perhaps a bit of the caramel color.. I know there is an artist that you loved that you saw while you were in Paris, I believe you saw one of his exhibitions, perhaps there is a print that would tie those colors together and it would also bring in the fact that you love his artwork. You could still keep it very simple but have that one statement art piece in each room that would tie everything together. Just a suggestion -everything you have done is lovely.

I used the shade store about 6 years ago. We did a full wall of windows with sliding glass door. Only 8’ tall but over 30’ wide. Motorized with the sun shade fabric. It was about $4k at that time. I have not regretted using them once. Great service, install - they even replaced a shade because of flaws in the fabric that weren’t evident until after install. Window coverings are expensive, no way around it.

I’ve used a Nespresso machine for a long time. With the smaller unit you can use the Lungo setting and that’s about 4 or so ounces. Perfecto! I LUV their Advent calendars and order them every year. This year’s theme was something akin to a train case! I’m a big fan and the coffee is excellent at about a dollar per capsule. ☕️☕️☕️💕‼️I bet you will end up loving it!

Ok, ordered my Nespresso calendar. You may find it easier to hand your recycled Nespresso pods to your UPS delivery person. It's no charge & easier than hauling them to a dropoff point. ❤ my Nespresso. Went down the French Press road however love the convenience of popping in the pod. Haven’t tried the Starbucks pods so will order. My favorite is the limited edition Christmas holiday mint so order a lot. NOTE: you should pop out the pod after brewing to avoid the steam buildup (supposedly to avoid mold)

I have a Sage Nespresso machine, also with a steamwand (for guests). Been a Nespresso client (Ambassador) from the beginning and never want anything else. But you can also make a big cup with the regular cups, it's called "lungo". Also try the special edition cups (per season): pumpkin, almond etc. Delish! No, Nespresso doesn't design coffee for milk. The aim is espresso, so that's always strong. With us (The Netherlands) you can order via internet and it will be delivered to your home. Enjoy!! ❤

Shade store is expensive but I love them. I have power controlled roller blinds on all my windows. Their installation is seamless and they resolved any and all issues. they accidentally damaged one of my windows and replaced it at their cost. they replaced one blind that the fabric had buckled with no issues. their installers are really good too.

Michele! Get your blinds done at Costco. I haven't yet, but I had my flooring, AC, and closet done by the vendors from there and they do a good job. When you pay for their services, you're actually paying Costco and they don't pay the vendors until you sign off on the job. So they make sure you've happy with the final results.

For the artwork and chandelier hire a decorator or interior designer. They can do this perfectly and have knowledge of the stores where such items are available. They could also have advised on bedlinen and towel colours. Don't muck around. Go for the experts.

Custom drapes are very pricey. The other option would be to possibly find a smaller fabric/design store and check their prices but honestly you’re in the ballpark. I’m in a small town with limited options and I always feel like I spend way too much on drapes. There’s no competition where I live. Since you’re in LV I bet you could find another store or two and get more estimates.

We did go with "Le Marché du Store" here in Québec (which, I assume, is the same thing???) for big, custom blinds in our previous condo. I don't remember the exact price, but I do remember it being pricey (and, like you, we went for the basics of basics). But honestly, I have nothing negative to say about both the service we got and the durability of our blinds - if I needed the peace of mind and the garanty that the blinds would hold up for years, I'd absolutely go back there.
