Most treads you see on the side of the road are where the tread has separated from the steel belts. This can happen on new tires, but is more often seen on a retread. WHY ? 1) There are more reatreads being used on commercial vehicles than new tires. 2) A retread has a tire casing with many thousands of miles under its tread already. Much depends on how the tire is inspected before retreading. In the case of commercial Aircraft tires, they are X rayed as part of the inspection. Different retreaders have different standards. Often at the plant where I worked it would depend on how much we needed the work to determine if a tire casing was rejected or not :-(

I've seen thousands of retread tires blow out all over roads across North America. They cause more work for highway clean up crews than any other road debris, including animals. As you probably know retreaded tires are no longer popular in passenger vehicles. Haven't been in a long time. From a quick search I found out that by retreading twice you save about 30%. I don't understand the financial reasoning for using retreads. One blowout with associated damage to the tractor or trailer and a couple thousand dollar roadside call to replace the tires and you wipe out all savings. Plus, I've had MORE than one car damaged by parts of semi recaps--if they had to pay for all of the damage caused by the debris, that would dig them an even deeper hole. I also thing there should be a substantial tax on the retreads to reimburse the state DOTs for the considerable effort and danger involved in picking up the debris beside and ON the road.
@davem452 жыл бұрын
it takes, roughly, 70% less energy to retread a tire than make a new tire. which makes them more affordiable. the likely hood of a blowout is negligible and they'll last as long as new tire and carry the a warranty

No problem with retreads if maintained correctly. Proper air pressure in the tire along with proper pressure in the adjacent tire will get you a long safe service. If you observe the “gators” scattered along the road you will almost always see cord sticking out of the rubber that indicates that the tire blew up due to excessive heat from under inflation or excessive weight due to the adjacent dual being under inflated or flat

Most likely of tires that have several factors that took place, in fact, modern retread tires are safe, so safe that even school bus fleets use them. The reality is that retread tires are crafted and tested to perform like new tires. Tires that cause accidents are bald or under inflated, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation. The main culprits are underinflation, overinflation, mismatching of tires in dual wheel position, faulty tire repairs, misaligned vehicles and tires driven with less than the legal limit of tread remaining. As long as they are properly maintained, retread tires perform as good as or better than new tires.

With that many tires on a semi truck often company would try and make the driver go with poor quality tires. I prefer Michelin and Continental tires. In the book Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintainance, the writer tells of a shop he had his bike fixed. Lousy work. He compared it to another shop who got it right. What he noticed in the first shop was blaring music. In the second, clinking of tools.

The majority of truck tires on the side of the road are NEW untried tires the untested casings just fail. You are incorrect sir. most almost all the "Blowouts" are new, but there are very few actual blowouts, in almost every case the tire has an injury, the air is released and the heat a low tire causes the tire to fail and the rim destroys the tire. 40 years in tire business has taught me that.

Everyone in the comments are making alot of American road comments. If you look closer this footage is from Derrimut, Australia. They may be made differently or better. Sometimes things are made better in SOME countries.

It really is the best solution for used tires but they need research and development to ensure safety

I never put retreads on my truck, but my company puts them on the trailers. I hate when I have to pull one with retreads.
@robinstewart65102 жыл бұрын
The feds have mandated retreads on fleet vehicles (heavy trucks with many thousands of miles on the tires) since 2000.

Собирайте и восстанавливайте, в чем проблема?)
@fsVlasov2 жыл бұрын
@@wedu5212 проблема не в том что их не кому восстанавливать. Проблема в том что их туда выкидывают, чем засоряют природу.
