I did family law back in the day and we represented a woman in a cult (The Remnant) whose 2 year old daughter was taken away from her. At that time there were 875 active cults in the US my religious expert advised. It was an interesting case to be involved in but we lost. We weren't surprised ❤

@@pocasanchez dad never returned her after one of his visits. He was a previous member of the cult and he did not want his daughter growing up in it. After a 3 day hearing the judge gave dad sole custody with mom having only supervised visits. It was a hard case because the cult leader was a creep but mom was a good mom. We presented the best case possible but knew that it was tough going. This was decades ago BTW.

Catholicism, imo, is cult like, but there are differences between religions and cults. That being, the goal/purposes of that collection of people. Cults are groups of people that are joined to strive towards a common goal. The knowledge of the devotion is also usually hidden, or only shared between the inner circles of the group. Religions are groups who beliefs are not hidden, and are also known to worship a supernatural entity/entities.

Was Jesus involved in this cult? Calvinism that lasted into that time was a splintered group from the 1800's. Calvinists were pretty crazy folks. The root of that cult she belonged to has its roots in Calvinism from the 1800's. If they talked a lot of Old Testament stuff, that is sure sign that it was an old form of Calvinism. Her Great Great Grandparents could have been in and were Calvinist, but after the war these groups became splintered and on their own migrating west. Some went north. She mentioned they spoke a quote about St. Paul the Apostle. So this was Christianity, but not Protestant or Catholic. It was Calvinism, which has its roots in the 1560's Europe during the reformation years. It was already splintering then. So by the time it got here it was watered down a bit. These are interesting histories. I could make a movie about her roots. It would be fun too.
