Penn State’s strength of schedule is about 70 spots ahead of Indiana. They had road games at West Virginia, USC, and Wisconsin. None of them are particularly good, but all three stadiums are tough places to play

One loss to the #2 team will not knock them out of the top 12. The committee can’t all of sudden be concerned about IU’s schedule just because of one loss. They put them in the top 5.

If Indiana keeps it close , IU is in the playoffs. I’m sorry just the precident set by leaving them out for a 2-3 loss SEC team is something this committee won’t do. Also 4/4 B1G and SEC keeps both conferences happy. 1-2 sec teams will be upset, but if IU is out, 1/2 of the top conferences just got slighted and that is no bueno.

Not a PSU fan, but surprised you didn’t mention their dub vs 6-3 Illinois (probably because it didn’t fit the point y’all were attempting to make) it’s not much, but that’s the big separator with IU’s schedule/resume. IU’s best wins are probably blowing out 4-5 UCLA on the road early before they started to figure things out ( but now one of the hottest teams in the conf), blew out 5-4 Nebraska at home, a team that is reeling, and 5-5 Washington at home, a team that can’t win on the road. That’s less impressive than beating a geared up 5-4 WVU on the road early in the season, handing 4-5 USC their only loss in the Coliseum & beating then ranked 6-3 Illinois. IU has a very good passing offense & Cignetti likes to pile on late scores, but a lot of teams would look great with their schedule . Still want them to get in so the SEC can cry, but not at the expense of my Buckeyes..to that point Michigan certainly exposed some things in Bloomington . IU didn’t look overwhelming vs physical line play & hitting for four quarters.

The mental edge with IU at tOSU is about even imo. Wouldn’t discount what the Buckeyes are playing for in that game. While they still make the playoffs with a loss, those guys came back for hardware, they really really want to make it to Indy, get another shot at Oregon, win the B1G as well as going undefeated at home for the first time since the Fields era. They are going to want to make a statement of their own.

I’m not buying it, if anything OSU comes into this game with a lot of confidence after seeing Michigan play with that team in Bloomington. At some point Indiana needs to start flexing the fact that they have the second biggest alumni association in the country (behind Penn State and ahead of Michigan; 1-2-3) and make it known that they can travel and fill stadiums with the best of them. It is true that you can only play the teams you are scheduled to play. But the folks that say that always leave out that if you are scheduled to play all cupcakes, you are going to have a better record than if you played a more representative schedule. FYI as of this week, Indiana has THE EASIEST SOS of ANY team in the power 4, and weaker than most G5 teams. I don't know if they had extenuating circumstances like Ohio State did in scheduling Washington OOC and then Washington becomes a B10 team so OSU has to scramble to replace that game - but FIU, Western Illinois and Charlotte is not an OOC schedule that is going to get you ANY points in playoff consideration - if you schedule like that, you had better make the title game in the B10 to be considered for the playoff. Obviously, no one at Indiana thought they would be in playoff contention when they scheduled those games; they were chasing wins. All that said, I think Indiana makes it in at 11-1.

I don’t agree with y’all’s take. I think the Big Ten Conference is tired of the disrespect from the SEC. They want to be treated as equals and I can see them demanding to be treated as equals. You can see the influence of having Big Tens Warde Manuel as the head of committee. Yea Greg Sankey might get mad, but who cares? What the hell is he going to do, not participate in the playoff? The SEC has zero leverage because there is no other conference on the level of the Big Ten and SEC and I’m sure the Big Ten conference knows that. The whole super conference thing only works if you have a tango partner and if you think you’re going to screw over the big ten to get one more extra team I think that’s a wishful thought.

Indiana can only play who is on their schedule, this is true. And they control who they play in the non conference, and unlike Ohio State, IU doesn't schedule a big dog team in their non conference. So what we are all supposed to be on board with is this idea that IU took the easy road, then happened to catch lightening in a bottle, so we should ignore they played a weak non conference.

re IU's schedule, the same pundits too willing to disparage IU had Mich, Wash, Neb and Maryland ranked at some point this season, in the top 35 - as high as 10! So post hoc analysis is not very analytic but closer to main stream bias and laziness. IU beats OSU at the Shoe, probably by >2 TDs, so sorry to bust your bubbles, and 'facts'. Coach Cig is above all else the grand preparer, the grandest with not just integrated and complementary O D K teams but also asst coaching staffs. This is a machine of detailed precision and vision that never lacks for timely decision making, usually 2 plays ahead - and no team is as deep in the rooms where 'explosive' plays come from as IU, and many very under used, eg I think Elijah Green is their best RB.
