Mick Jagger Explains Exactly Why Drugs Need to Be Legalized

Mick Jagger on Larry King explains why the drug war must end - to put an end to the violence that occurs in the black market drug trade. Drug prohibition has failed so it is time to legalize and regulate drugs so that all the profit is removed from selling them, thus ending the violence caused by prohibition in the first place.

Kourtnee Sherman Which 'people'.."say"...that ? Anyway Jagger never took hard drugs. A bit of cocaine,weed and alcohol in very moderate doses. Jagger wouldn't say that ofcourse,because as the savvy businessman he is , he's still perpetuating The Stones' badboy image ,which worked wonders for them. It's mostly Richards who was into heavy dope.

I wish people would stop knocking Mick, the more I learn about him, the more I like him.I know this, I was lucky enough to see the stones at a small venue with about 300 people. He looked right at us & genuinely paid attention to our expressions and how much fun we were having. He always moved to the quietest part of the crowd and then moved on only after everyone was excited. I was touched by how much he cared about us as an audience when we were such a small audience. He didn't have to care

Wow, it's all so simple. Personal responsibility. If you commit a crime, then punish according to the crime committed. What caused the crime should be irrelevant. But creating laws that make it a crime to commit a crime against yourself is MAD! It's actually against the law to commit suicide in the US. That is the best example of legislative insanity. If one is smoking cannabis, what crime has been committed towards the general welfare of society? NONE. Should that cannabis user, neglect his consideration for society and commit a crime that infringes on someone else, then they should be charged accordingly. Supporting alcohol, and banning drugs is cowardice. Either ban everything that alters ones mental and physical abilities or legalize everything with applicable degrees of regulation.
@TheAndyroid
@TheAndyroid 8 жыл бұрын
In the UK there is now a blanket ban on all things that can alter your mental state, barring those on an exempted list (first draft didn't include oxygen!). The same law was passed in Ireland several years earlier and it actually increased the use of so-called 'legal highs'. Theresa May knew this, as did all other MPs present, but they went ahead and did it anyway because it fits their idea of what should work. Truth is, the drugs are now unregulated, not taxed and all profits go to criminal organisations.
@mordantvistas4019
@mordantvistas4019 8 жыл бұрын
TheAndyroid Good golly you'll miss "Molly". The UK should see record incarceration shortly. I wasn't sure if the UK had privatized prison, but when you said a ban on everything I immediately thought, "I bet they have private sector prisons". Sure enough they do! There is an alarming correlation of legislation and imprisonment. Keep the prison manufacturers in steady supply of labor. Slavery is alive and well in western "civilization". Enslave as many people as you can and have them work for free producing products for corporations. We are living in an episode of Black Mirror. There is a blanket ban on all things that can alter your mental state! I suspect alcohol made the exempt list. The people of the UK should demand alcohol illegal as well. Ban everything and demonstrate the true nature of censorship. Force every politician to state that alcohol DOES NOT alter ones mental state. If they say it does, force them to prohibit it. Pick one or the other. Colorado is becoming the new "New" Amsterdam. The more the world starts clamping down the more traffic and money Colorado is going to make. Too bad for the UK, gun violence will be on the rise substantially now. Of course the media will blame that on drugs, not legislation. See US for details. Good luck

Actually, mick jagger was at LSE for a year before he quit, and alledgedly they tried to convince him to stay at school, but he didn't because the stones were taking off. The fact that he got into LSE in the first place to study economics (harder by the way than getting in to study economics at oxford or cambridge) shows that actually, Mick is pretty switched on. I think if these guys were so out of it and drug crazed there's no way they would've been so successful. Mick Jagger was/is a fantastic lyricist. That gets lost in all the blathering about his hair and his face, drugs, jumping around, women, arrests, fashion, favourite breakfast cereal, etc. If you ever get a chance to get away from all that nonsense, take a moment to consider the words to "As Tears Go By", "19th Nervous Breakdown", "Paint it Black", "Jumping Jack Flash", "Sympathy For the Devil". It's not all "baby baby baby" or "my love is a flower, blah blah blah". Singable, yet thoughtful.

Does that go for alcohol too? Whatever tax placed on cannabis, alcohol should receive double the amount. Merit alone can demonstrate that alcohol has a greater negative effect on society versus cannabis. By the way, an excessive excise tax will only keep the illegal and deadly crime syndicates in business. So I guess secretly heavy taxation is code for supporting criminal cartels.
@mordantvistas4019
@mordantvistas4019 8 жыл бұрын
Taxation should be scaled on an actual level of social harm. Tobacco should have the highest taxation, then firearms, and alcohol. The CDC data shows 29,000 deaths annually from alcohol. 33,636 from firearms, 31,000 from falling, 34,000 from cars, 480,000 tobacco. 0 for cannabis. Hmmm, pretty easy to see how to scale the tax bracket for some of these items. Falling should still be free though. "Taxing the fuck out of it" guy is clueless. Still stuck in 80's ideology, loving the Marlboro Man, This Buds for you, Solo Cups, and Ronald Reagan. You're only as young as the last time you changed your mind.--TL

Jagger's making sense here. Fronting the Stones is like operating heavy equipment; you don't want to do it on drugs.

Larry's "professional" habit was never to do any homework or prep (no doubt he learned it in "journalism school." So he tells Mick "you were never convicted on a drug charge," and of course Mick straightens him out.

Every time I play Skyrim and go into a tomb, Mick comes after me. Sometimes I wake up the whole band from their slumber and they attack with ancient nordic weapons. I half expect them to wake up and start jamming...

Mick has been around long enough to know what he's talking about. If you don't like what he has to say, don't listen, the caption tells you what the discussion is about. I love you Nick, you are still the one. Behind every successful man is a pack of haters.

Mick is one of the luckier ones still being here. Jimmy Hendrix,Janice Joplin and many more fell victim of it. Must admit though Mick does come across as professional and having seen the Stones Live have to say they put on a top notch performance.

+Peter M. Adamson Mick has always been extremely professional and in control. I'm sure he used plenty of cocaine socially in the '70s and '80s, but he never got into the junkie/upper/downer lifestyle. That's really what killed off so many rockers in the '70s.

GAD isn't caused by the drug, what happens is that when a person has an underlying psychiatric problem it becomes exasperated by the drug. If a person has GAD and takes the drug, it becomes worse, but the panic wears off with the drug. Also the same with psychosis, or "derealasation" as you put it. These drugs don't cause psychiatric problems. They exasperate them. You can't lump what you've heard about LSD or PCP and apply them to the drugs that I specifically mentioned.

Everybody depends on "drugs" just to get up in the morning and face the day, special proteins (endorphins) assure that for us, by playing "opiates" and providing natural euphoria. When one's body no longer is able to produce natural endorphins, it becomes a natural self right to restore them with whatever is available. That's why any action taken to make sure an addict doesn't get his fix is a crime by itself!! People should have the right to seek and use whatever makes them feel good.

Unless, Jimmy David, those people begin to be a problem in that they can no longer afford their fix, and because they do not wish to go through a withdraw they start to steal from others to get what they need. Unfortunately this seems to become a big problem. If it were not a problem I suppose no one would really give a shit who does what. But no one likes to walk down a public street and be pan handled aggressively, or robbed, or have to see homeless addicts sleeping or standing in a nod on the sidewalk or middle of the street. Who pays for those people? Who has to fix them when they can't fix themselves. All of that gets quite expensive. I mean I agree with you regarding the basic premise of what you are saying but have you ever walked through a park and seen 10 or 15 illegal aliens huffing gasoline or solvents? Why do they do it? Sometimes I think that what would be best is if they researched looking for the perfect euphoric drug and legalized it, maybe its already here in Marijuana, but even that becomes a problem for people. The flip side of those who like to get together with friends twice a year and do lines of good coke are those that immediately start shooting it, daily , and robbing others to get it, loose everything they have and wind up in the gutter begging for a crack rock. Now someone has to pay to scoop them out of the gutter, jail them, feed them, rehabilitate them, etc etc again and again.
