I totally agree. Charles is an incredibly passionate, articulate and cheerful ambassador of the old car hobby, whom I have known since he was a kid hanging around the same oldtimer restoration shop my Dad and I spent too much time in, as well. His microcar meet is legendary, because everyone who owns one (or more) of those silly vehicles is too busy enjoying margaritas to brag about horsepower (there isn't any to speak of, anyway). Thank you for a wonderful job rekindling passion in Charles' and Nancy's fans through their own passion for our hobby. You obviously share their zest for living!

How wonderful, I owned 3 Citroen 2CVs and had so much fun driving all around France many times. I had a friend with a Messerschmitt 3 wheel car, to reverse you stopped the engine and started it in reverse to go backwards and then stopped it and started again in forwards, I think the engine was 2 stroke.. I own a Morris Minor 1000 which I bought in 1992 and a Royal Enfield Model G motorbike that I bought in early 1972 and has been recently restored to full working order.

What an awesome collection... Like Charles, I started driving when I was 14 and owned my first motorbike, a Honda 50 cub, which I could drive with a learners license at 14 in Canada... My Dad told me he taught me how to steer the truck when I was 5 years old and by 9 years old I was driving the farm truck and farm tractor alone... I love to hear the stories like Charles and see the passion for his hobby... thanks for sharing your journey with us...

Great video as always! This year a small club and YT channel from Cologne which does yearly tours on extravagant small cars chose a 400 kg almost unknown vehicle (AWS shopper 1970-74) to rebuild on a DIY basis and do a camping trip in late summer 2023. The car which can be driven without a car´s driver´s license (all you need is a license which entitles you do drive a 50cc motorcycle called moped in Germany) has a small 2 stroke rear engine which allows a max speed of 60 km/h approx.

Hey Charles: I like you! 🤗 I am so very with you about what the interesting vintage cars really are, the little daily drivers that once really shaped the picture of the streets everywhere and took people around until rust got them. Yes, The E-Types are stunning beauties, a Borgward Isabella Coupe makes your jaw water with its lines. But who has any memories connected with any of them? The Opel Admiral, Opel Kadett B, VW411 my parents owned over the years inspire a lot more feelings in me than either of the luxury vehicles. My back then best friend got the 1969 Ford Escort I his grand uncle had had sitting in his garage for years when he go his license. He patched all the holes in the fenders, gave it a fresh paint job. I had the license a few months before him, so the first one to drive it after it passed the technical examination for the first time in over ten years was me. Changing gears with one finger on the shifter, the super comfy suspension, whenever the lights were on, the trunk light would light up as well (Probably a wiring error) which would make that nice light pattern on the roof when driving in the dark… The nights when driving to the pubs and home was his job and I would sit in the rear seat, slightly sloshed and relaxing while I watched those lt patches on the roof! It's the life they saw. It's the memories they made. I remember a Daihatsu Charade with the little opera window in the rear sides that I saw frequently near my primary school that looked so wonderfully different. I just I liked it. Where have the Charades gone? Hands up everybody who's grandma had a Honda Civic from, let's say, 1981 back then, that took them to ice bars or zoos when they were kids? When did you last see the type of car your grandparents owned?Hardly anyone bothered to preserve those. It's these cars that can serve as kind of nucleus of condensation for memories. You see one and the pictures from way back when they were everywhere start bubbling up in the back of your mind. They are so much fun to drive, they feel so alive. No electronics playing nanny to the inept driver you, but a tool for moving that will be an extension to you as you blend into one with it. Should I ever win in a lottery, I will probably make all car dealers sad, for no one will get a penny from me. I'll have a warehouse that looks much like yours. 🙃 …okay, maybe one posh car: A 1936 Auburn Speedster. Okay, maybe two exceptions, after all you have an E-Type, too. 🤔 Okay, maybe… 😳😵‍💫

@@Got2Go One of the jobs during my studies was at an upmarket and vintage cars dealer. Among the several interesting cars the petrol head me got to rub his nose against was an MG A from 1955. I got the honour of driving it to a customer for him to have a look at it. Some 10Km in total. This car was _such_ fun to drive with its 55hp, it was crazy. Just brilliant! Much nicer than all the big beamers and Mercedes. 🤗

What a great episode! Two comments: the vent windows, besides mitigating the buffeting caused by the open windows, could also be turned completely inward, directing the air right to the driver and passengers. Very useful on hot days, especially if you had worked up a sweat. Second, in 1991, I bought bought a Saab convertible. Saab at the time was a pioneer in turbocharging. Anyway, I drove the drove the car for about seven years and sold it to a couple who lived in the same town I did, so I would see it on the road or in their driveway. The new owners kept the car immaculate. One day, many years after selling it, I drove by their house and saw the car at the curb in front of their house with a for sale sign on it. I stood on my brakes, parked, ran back to the house and told the wife I had someplace to go that evening but that I would be back in the morning to buy the car back. Which I did. I put a new top on it and drove it happily for a couple of more years, before selling it again. I’ve owned a lot of cars over the years but that was the only one I would ever have considered buying back.

I drove 22 hours round trip last month to pick up my 1996 4WD Daihatsu Hijet mini truck from the Norfolk News Marine Terminal. It's an awesome little truck from the Japanese Domestic Market. Protectionist laws prevent us from importing them into the US for road use unless they're over 25 years old and many states prohibit them outright.

Hi Lea, different episode.....but nice. Charles has a beautiful collection. I remember that in the owners manual of the Vincent Lightning you could read: Acceleration: " Not yet tested" Btw: a microcar not many people know, is the Kleinschnittger. Engine: 125 cm³ or about 7,8 inch³. NO not for the windscreen wipers.

First "car" I had was a Berkeley T60 three wheeler, because I could drive that on my motorcycle licence. It looked like a mini E type Jaguar from the front and a potato from the rear. Powered by an Excelsior twin 328cc air cooled engine. Fitted with a crankshaft mounted SIBA Start combined starter and DC generator unit, so no Bendix gear to wear out and fail. Body made in three fibre glass pieces pop rivetted together around two steel internal chassis members. Soft top. 60 mph flat out! Berkeley also made similar four wheelers but with bigger engines.

What a wonderful episode, even though not on the bike. So sad though, that Charles does not have an AJS motorcycle (which actually was the first bike I owned - a -1962 old one -). But if I would ever own ,or drive a car, it will have to be as small as the "PEEL" or the BMW, even the original Fiat 500, or the Mini cooper, but all with much better engines of course.LOL... Oh Lea, what can I say, what a brilliant video you have created, I absolutely loved it. What a incredible man Charles is, so forward thinking in the way he preserves the cars in his collection, and I couldn't help but notice that beautiful yellow Jaguar E-type. I worked for Jaguar cars for 38 years before retiring five years ago. my buddy has that same NAsh, its red, back in the 80's we had a olds 350 in it I think it was, being chased by cowboys with guns we lost em just in time to chuck a rod, we smoked it to a buddy's house and Ace changed the motor out in their garage... BTW same friend who's mom sold me my very first car ever, a MINT 1955 Dodge Custom Lancer, small block hemi V-8, yellow/black.. unreal, a tow company and the police stole it from me, she let me buy it for $50 ...

Hi Lea, something popped up in my mind. You have to know Horex and Münch Mammut. So on a rainy day...... And....in 1969, when the Amis were on their way to the moon, the German Motorcycle Magazine Das Motorrad had an idea. They wanted to see how far a bike can come in 24 hours. Same rider. They started with three Moto Guzzi's V7 on the Autobahn A7 in Hamburg to Vienna then back to Hamburg and then back to Vienna until 24 hours have passed one bike was solo. One bike had a female passenger who didn't moan at all. And one had a sidecar fitted. At gas stations were friends for coffee en goggles cleaning. They covered about 2700 km (1700 m) with a medium speed of 123 kmh (75 mph) The sidecar was stuck in Austria with a cracked tank after 1000 miles.
