Micro Minnie FLX-Critical Battery Update! Pt 1

In this vid I cover a critical piece of info about the Lithionics battery that Winnebago neglected to address. The battery HAS to be stored above freezing if it is not going to be connected to shore power. Even then the battery heat mgmt only is rated to -4.
So if you have or are considering a FLX, the 68lb battery that is buried in the storage bay will have to come out in cold storage. Makes one wonder how the batteries are going to hold up sitting on dealer lots all winter.

The battery in my whole house generator has a heat pad under it. Seems like that would be just the ticket here.

Thanks for the informative videos. I like this camper and think it’ll suit me well. However, I’m happy I’m still a couple years away from buying one so they can work out some of these issues.

Lithionics model KF1205DL-BB. They want to sell the more expensive faster charging one but this one works fine. It’s just slow to do so. Your call.

Easily done from the bed area up top. That’s how I do mine.

I was under the impression that, "Charging" a lithium battery in freezing temps is what damages them. If not in use, Disconnected, There would not be damage. Maybe I am wrong.

What do you have that is GoPower? What brand is your MPPT Solar Charge Controller?

Yeah, replacing these batteries is no joke either... I looked in to getting a second one to increase the run time on the AC when dry camping. My dealer wants $8500 for one... I could get a 9 kwh bluetti system for just about that...

Wow - we feel bad for you. We’re in Florida and took delivery of the same unit and the dealer didn’t PDI it and we had it transported. Needless to say our slide out doesn’t work, our bay doors don’t lock and the main door shuts but it won’t deadbolt and the bottom of the door is so out of alignment it moves 3/4 of inch, the back splash in the kitchen is coming off the wall and we had to pay a Truma tech to bring a remote. And now our battery is going dead because it needs a full charge and we can’t drive it down the road because the slide out is sticking out to far. We don’t even know if the refrigerator works! 🤬

Damn! I’ve known others to have issues but yours sounds like it was assembled by a drunk crew. I will say, don’t know if it’ll help, the storage door latch in the frame can be bent back up. Mine was pushed down after the battery sat on it while I was pulling it.

@@speedbumpmedia9584 Yeah - it’s pretty messed up. We are working with Winnebago to rectify. Just wanted you to know we talked directly to Truma and Lithionics Battery and have lots of info to share if you want. I’m not a blogger and would rather do it privately.

I’ve talked with Lithionics on several occasions but if you have new info I’d love to hear it. Congrats on Winnebago getting back to you. Lately I’ve had issues trying to get an answer or have them answer the phone. Nothing like being on hold for 2 hours as the next in queue, to going to 2 ahead of you, followed by we’re having system issues call back later.

Lithium also looses capacity permanently if kept fully charged in high temperatures. We hit 117 and sometimes higher where I live. Winter wise, I don’t know what your power rates are there, but if you have power where you are parked it might not cost much to run a space heater above freezing. Well insulated small unit with no one going in or out…. Plus I think the interior stays nicer/lower humidity.

Some Li users will actually will set their Li Battery on a 12V thermostatically controlled tank heater. The battery box can be insulated also. If nothing else get a small ceramic heater to keep aimed at your Li in the winter. I still can't decide between the FLX version or to go with SOK Li's, MultiPlus Inverter/Charger and Victron for everything other than the Li's. Victron is a company with proven quality.
