It doesn't get any easier then this... unless you buy them of course. However, these "MICRO" size rattles are not available anywhere that I know of. So this video will show you how to do it.

We used to tie tube flies on Plastic Qtips, that might work too in a pinch. Great tutorials, thank you. Soon I will have my own diy fly tying materials and tools to share with everyone

so follow earned for the large whip finisher, and as im not going to fly fish maybe ever im still learning things that can be used to hunt bass. these rattles are expensive and the glass ones break like you said, this is a super easy solution. eagerly awaiting further frugal ideas, watching more videos now.

I use rattles quite often in my flies and I am definitely going to try to make my own. I use and tie flex cord exactly the same way the para cord is used. It's stiffer and gives off a little flash, and depending on the fly, it can prevent tail fouling.

You can also use the balloons for nymphs, wing cases, scud backs etc.

Fantastic. I've been avoiding buying rattles because they are glass and they are expensive. BTW - 400 Series stainless steel is magnetic, so you can have magnetic stainless.

I use Q-tip tubes for my tube flies the red colored tubes are stiffer (I use the red ones ) and don't crush as you build the fly the lite blue and purple ones aren't as rigid and seemed to crush under thread tension just pull off the cotton and cut the tubes to length with a razor blade gives a cleaner cut After I cut the tube to length I (LITELY ) touch the ends of the tubes to lighter /match /candle so that it flares the ends so it helps keep the thread from rolling off the end of tube as you wrap the thread and scuffing the tube with sand paper / emery board / nail file will aid thread to grip the tube and not want slip/ spin around the tube and a touch of head cement /super glue doesn't hurt either

I like this idea and I am wondering if the rattle is tied into the body of the fly will it weight the fly and urn it into a sinking fly and would you be able to use a floating line with it or a intermediate line that is sinking in the first 5-8 feet and the rest is floating or what please let me know.

with rattles, since they do weight the fly, a tier can tie them in parallel with the shank on top (I do use glue/uv resin to ensure stability). Then use whatever tubing to pull over the rattle (zonker style) to make a baitfish belly that rides hook point up. As far as streamer material getting caught in hook bend, i poke a hole in rabbit strip to feed over hook point then tie in at the base of the shank, or don't even mind it except to comb fibers between it. Remember In the end, hook point up or down, long flowy fibers will at some point get caught in the bend of the hook, but I think it is us as fishermen who care not the fish.

Great video, I just don't like paying full boat for something so simple, tons of steel, bismuth, lead and tungsten shot in my house, for these so no need to buy rattles. Talk to someone who reloads, better yet they may well feel bad about throwing all those wood duck feathers away. I used to.
