Next hear on a news a sniper scope that terrorised a local town has a spotter built into the scope auto adjusts like in the game ghost sniper where the bullet drops and automatically adjust for wind and timing of bullet hit crazy have scopes that require no training just weapon handling and the scope will take the guess work of using a spotter and trusting your own instinct to take the shot basically the scope would of already figured that out and waiting for the operator to fire

ezel 99 Really smart answer !! Literally the 9th word is "dumbfuck" Just say how it will change our lives, don't just insult. Btw this is really incredible for AR glasses on broad daylight, phone screens that can be used in broad daylight or make the battery last a lot longer with lower brightness, higher efficiency microLED technology instead of OLED. Also super efficient small projectors.

Also the peak brightness is huge as well it can be modular. This is ground breaking technology and will change the whole tv / screen landscape upcoming 10 / 20 years. This guys are chill and really open and smart people.

@Charbax I'm wondering if they clarified in person whether the 5000 PPI rating is for the colour display, or just the monochrome displays? Does it actually mean it's 5000 sub-pixels per inch, as on the monochrome displays each pixel is technically a sub-pixel rather than a full pixel? 1666 PPI, with 5000 S-PPI, would be somewhat less impressive. But on the other hand 2018 is pretty early from what I've read about MicroLED's progress, and their estimate of $20 mass production cost is impressive.
@hotgluegunguy
@hotgluegunguy 6 жыл бұрын
davandmoccoo The CEO said in the video that the demo colour setup used prisms to combine the images from three chips, so it seems like they're currently producing separate R, G and B monochrome displays, so no subpixels.

DOGMA1138 Isn't it difficult to manufacture such LEDs for display purposes?
@DOGMA1138
@DOGMA1138 6 жыл бұрын
The manufacturing process of MicroLED's is problematic but not difficult the difficult part is placing them as even the best pick and place machines only do a few 1000's parts in an hour the record iirc is 50,000 parts an hour with a machine that has 150 or so feeders. So making large displays with millions of pixels is impossible. However this is a 5000 PPI display and it looks like it's less than 1 inch/sq in size I would put it into about half that size which means it only has about 2000-2500 micro LEDs which means this one would be pretty easy to manufacture with current processes. However for micro LEDs to be commercialized to high resolution especially in the 4-8K and beyond range we need either a completely new way to deposit them as discrete LEDs like doing component deposition using static electricity or using liquid surface tension to align and secure the components or more likely we need to be able to print LEDs like we currently print the pixel and screen elements of existing LCD screens. That said their manufacturing seems to be based on a monolithic wafer which means that all LEDs are built on a single silicon wafer this eliminates picking and placing discrete components however it greatly limits the size of the display to the maximum die size that the LED manufacturer can make it also makes it a single fragile component. They can potentially be successful in their niche but this isn't something that would actually advance MicroLED manufacturing beyond this scale and implementation.

MLED| or Micro LED is a really big deal it has all the benefits of OLED plus some more 1) Brighter displays vs OLED 2) Pixels can be individually turned off like on OLED display to make black areas appear more blacker 3) No burn in issues as there is no organic material like in OLED (Organic LED) 4) More colours on display which are more vibrant 4) You do not need a new display if you damage old one as you can separate and join parts of an MLED display as each pixel is made individually and joined together vs other display technologies which can be beneficial in areas in which REALLY big displays are needed such as stadiums as no truck will be able to lug around 200"+ displays the major setback is to do with the last reason I mentioned in which MLED displays need to be made pixel by pixel and joined together as this process can be painstakingly long and manufacturers are doing all they can to reduce time and effort required to produce these displays as well as reduce costs

This is very significant to the display market. If it can be Mass Produced, this will be disruptive. It will kill OLED and LCD assuming all the technical issues can be matured and polished. The key point is 1 Million nits. The current OLED limitation is the peak luminance that can hardly able to achieve 1000+ nits. LCD, on the other hand, is able to achieve more than 2000 nits in 2018. Micro LED is very promising! There will be camouflage application that can be applied in daylight as well with such brightness.
