Try this, since all Winblows is trying to do is move a plug-in from its home folder or the CD, try locating it and manually copying it into Netscape’s plug-in folder. Also, it’s probably looking for the default browser, which on a fresh Windows 10 install is the pre-Chromium Edge; try changing it over to Netscape.

So, I installed Windows 10 32-bit into a VM and downloaded and installed Winblows and Netscape 3.0. The result is you can run the browser setup outside of the game from the CD but the plug-in is part of that executable, so you must run the setup app. Further, Netscape 3 isn’t signed as a recognized browser by Windows 10, so setting it as the default doesn’t work either. It might work better in Windows 7 or even XP.

It was probably trying to copy a plugin to the Navigator folder, which is write protected since it's in program files. Running Microshaft as admin might fix it.

I guess it's trying to write to Program Files, but NTFS permissions doesn't allow that. Just adding a full control permissions to the Netscape folder for a user might work. Or (being a linux admin myself I hate this tip, but since you're in a VM - it's fine) just run Winblows as an Administrator.

Running Winblows as admin or modifying Netscape's folder's permissiosn to allow write access to Users may allow the application to copy its plugin. Remember Windows 9x did not lock down application folders like NT does. The Winblows setup might be working because Windows 64-bit includes copies of 32-bit InstallShield built in. Lots of 16-bit InstallShield installers were common in the 9x era for 32-bit applications, so these included 32-bit installers allow Windows to transparently invoke a 32-bit version of a 16-bit installer to ensure you can still install old applications. Could be what is happening here. I noticed the folder name for Temp it is using is incorrect (hence why it doesn't work). It is stripping off part of the path. There is likely a bug in how it is handling the TEMP folder name that did not manifest on Windows 9x since the Temp folder is in a different spot (C:\Windows\Temp IRC).

Maybe it can´t copy the plugin because Netscape is installed in the Program Files directory and Microshaft needs Administrator privileges to modify anything in the Program Files / Program Files (x86) folder.

yes, it said Internet Explorer 11 which is the last version developed. As you can see, IE11 is slow loading websites and crashes. I believe this is because it has many legacy features which are no longer used in modern web browsers

The game Urbagility 2 also requires an older version of Internet Explorer, even though it says "or later". I solved this problem by installing the version mentioned in Urbagility 2 (I don't remember which one) in addition to the one already preinstalled on my computer. Perhaps you could try the same with Microshaft Winblows 98. Also, check out Urbagility 2. It's a really good game if you can get it to run. I haven't tried installing it on Windows 10 because I didn't want to risk having another Internet Explorer. And no, Urbagility 2 cannot use Netscape. It needs Internet Explorer.

The problem is with permissions. Either run the game as admin or give yourself full access to Netscape Navigator's installation folder. Either one should solve the problem with copying the plugin. I'll check it out.

I would just use the 32 bit version in a virtual machine. If people are testing this stuff on a production/personal PC they more than likely don't possess the knowledge to fix a problem if one is to arise. Just because this works with MJD doesn't mean it will work for someone thats using it on their personal PC because of file associations and such and he's using a virtual machine. You should maybe show a video installing Windows in a virtual machine because cadering to peoples request to use the 64 bit version may have adverse affects if they attempt to use it on their system if outside of a virtual machine.

Here's the exact wording: You can look it up yourself if you don't believe me, it's at 06:07 : 'If your browser requires you to manually dial up your service provider, do so now, then return to this box and click "OK". Otherwise, click "OK" now, or click "Cancel to return to the product'. The Product in this context means Winblows, not your main OS (Windows). Thus, clicking Cancel would have returned you to the main menu of Winblows, but it wouldn't have quit it. . Either way, this always was a finicky part of this program. I remember finally having got it to work on my own Windows 98 machine at the time, by reverting from Internet Explorer to my old browser of choice, Netscape Navigator. I believe that was version 5, but I don't quite remember the version of it. Anyway, as soon as I selected Netscape as my browser, it worked.
