I bought it and it now replaces the default 172 that I used to fly so much. Your comment on the trim is spot on, I never liked the 172's finicky trim characteristics. That alone was enough for me but I think it flies better overall. So, for $29 US I'm satisfied.

Nice review. I feel the same way about this one a 4*, and definitely the best so far in MSFS20. An interesting test is to adjust your CG way back and try stalls again. Much more violent and likely to drop a wing as it should be. I too have flown the 182 a bit and I must say the dynamics seem about as right as possible in a cheap sim. I agree if you like GA aircraft this is a great one. East to land in short rough fields and great climb especially if not fully loaded. Thanks, and keep these reviews coming.

would be nice if they included a older version with dials and gauges. i really don't like glass cockpit aircraft. i look forward to some of my fav planes to come out like the Golden Eagle 421, VC10, B727, Beach 18, DC2 & 3, DH Beaver, and the list goes on. Don't count on it. Carenado has been known for years now in the flight sim community for releasing planes and then never patching them. Just as an example, they had a plane in X-Plane that was completely broken by a patch and they never updated it to fix it - the community had to fix it themselves. And if that's not bad enough, they had the gall to release an "HD" version of the same plane later for full price with no discount for previous owners, while the old version was still broken. Do not buy this junk.

No. It's too much because the plane is rushed and is a bit of a dog. Default garmin, god aweful sound, no check list. You should, as a responsible content creator, be advising people to wait for A2A simulations and Aerosoft. This plane is nothing more than a cash grab and you and I both know it.

How do you know if msfs has been patched? I've had no problems with my AP recently, though I could have sworn my da60 was intentionally trying to kill me before... :) Great vid. For me... Gudday Shane, thanks for the review. I see you are using the "Yoko+" Yoke. I am using the "Yoko" Yoke but having difficulty getting it to work. It doesn't seem to work at all without using the VFTest & Calibrate software from VirtualFly (which I think is in Beta). I also think this software is causing issues with MSFS2020 and causing it to crash. Any tips? Appreciate your help mate.

RE: The look of the aircraft I can pretend it recently had a paint job and the interior refurbished. A friend of mine purchased a 1946 Aeronca Chief, striped it down even removing the instrument panel, weld steel tubing properly, replaced all worn parts, it was probably better than new when he finished, it looked awesome with a star burst pattern the full width of the wings. The Flybywire A320neo is a quite good semiprofessional free add-on. I has some autopilot logic problems but for a free add-on it is very good!

One thing you didn’t test was p-factor. I own an actual 182M and during slow flight my foot is all the way to the floor. In fact I run out of rudder before I stall. I do have 265 Pponk conversion but flight sims rarely model p-factor very well. I made one with X-plane and AirManager (I have steam gauges).

No-one is denying it takes work. The thing is though why not do it right instead of a rushed half assed attempt at being first? Where is the work in the stock crappy sound, stock Garmin and no check list etc? I will gladly pay top dollar for good add-ons but this isn't good. All they did was retexture the skin using PBR which is a copy/paste at it's basic level which it is because there isn't any embellishments over the top. The flight model will be copy/paste with a bit of tweaking. That's literally all they did. Where is all this "work" you speak of? I would rather wait for A2A Simulations or Aerosoft as although their planes will cost more, at least they will be worth paying anything at all. This is a $5 reskin

I have always found Carenado AC to be like a field goal striking the uprights. They are so close but lack in a lot of ways. They give you the very basic PDF files that even a pilot have a slightly hard time navigating. Their G1000 to me is just a slight upgrade from the default P3D GPS system. They do make some stunning looking aircraft though.

Bought this one pretty much the same day as MSFS released. Had the X-Plane and P3D versions previously. Not a bad effort although the issue with the two left wing Quickviews (and no right wing Quickview), absence of checklists, and the engine starting issue leads me to believe they rushed this one out without fully testing in order to brag they had the first add-on aircraft. I had hoped MS would be more diligent in what they allowed to be sold through the marketplace. I can understand selling a "not quite ready for primetime" aircraft directly from the Carenado website; I hoped the MSFS Store would have higher quality control standards before they were willing to put it on their shelf. I only hope this does not mean other add-ons with be defective and not fully vetted before making them available. MS needs to establish a "Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval" system for what they put in their Marketplace.

Shane, I am surprised that you found some "lateral slip" effects in the sim cause there is none yet... Please take your time and look at the dials/ gauges while you are in a forward lateral slip : the numbers will not change from an aligned attitude. The plane's fuselage is not providing lateral drag in the actual flight model, and the propwash is totally absent from MSFS. So you can not areobrake with a lateral slip. The energy management isn't right yet (it is known from Asobo and 3PD !) and should be improved. Just saying ;)

Real world side slips are hindered by the lack of a proper Turn & Bank/slip Indicator. In a Tiger Moth, The R&S Turn/Slip Indicator allowed about 15 degree slip while maintaining heading (but with great care lest you spin & die.)

The failed start is due to the fuel shutoff valve being on. The problem is the developer DID NOT include this control. As an example, look in the 152/172. There is a push/pull control for the fuel shutoff. You have to use the keyboard shortcut Alt+V to toggle the fuel valve.

I’ve just purchased it. Firstly I was impressed with the engine sound, much better than the recorded sound in KZbin recordings. Secondly I was surprised about the oddity with the display of the livery’s looking the same in the selection list. Thirdly I had the same issue with the fail of the right hat switch view. So Carenado need to issue an update fix. Even with these issues I’m enjoying the aircraft provided an update is issued. Very nice to fly. I found to start it worked if I turned on the fuel pump for nine seconds (mixture rich) then start. Regards to all flyers!

Start issues are I think I down to the fact that the fuel switch is not working. Even though the switch is turned on in the plane it is not working. It's a bug. You have to use the keyboard. Carnt remember the right keys, but look it up. Another thing, the g1000 have no synthetic vision, which the default have but as far as I know Carenado does not have. Therefore their own g1000 perhaps

Don't have this plane, but probably won't use it, as I'm legally blind, and can't see the controls, around the navigation screens, but it looks amazing! And, wouldn't it be cool to have textures that were time sensitive, and would age, over the course of a couple of years? You start off with a shiny new plane, all minty fresh, from the factory, and a year later, it has that dull finish, planes get, after a year, or so of exposure to UV, and constant air, weather. I think that's doable. Don't you? Thanks for the video.

Lots of people complaining that the sound is poor, now I have never heard a 182 in the flesh but I watched some videos of real 182 and the engine sound is identical to the Carenado c182. I wouldn't buy it because it's got the glass cockpit but doesn't seem as bad as some make out.

Im gonna be honest here, I'v just paid over £100 to get my hands on an unfinished simulator! I love it dont get me wrong, doesnt have all the features of the last one, most systems are 80% working, which means broken! I find it very cheeky they even have the store running while the sim runs like crap for a lot of people, doesnt install or launch for an awful lot of people.

Is there a manual hidden in the files? There's way more help out there for the default 172 garmen. I normally support pay ware profit motives but I don't feel I got something special so far. Maybe I don't know the product well yet tho. Default fsx was so bad carenado was amazing by comparison.

I personally find the stall characteristics of the Default C172 to be lacking. I feel that it easily enters into a spin. While that can happen if you do not maintain wings level using minor corrections in mostly rudder and very minor in aileron, I never get the nose dropping and recovering. It always rolls over into a spin. Interestingly, when I am in the Pitts trying to enter a spin, the noise just drops and recovers from the stall. So maybe it is me.

The engine sounds nice and the aircraft is modeled nicely. Not worth the prices though. Make some 400 series twin Cessna's and I'd be all over those.

This is the first time I've heard anyone recommend this aircraft. Carenado was labeled as a partner early in development, so i imagine they did all or most of the default planes too. You're basically paying for the ability to open windows and doors. I don't like cessna's, so I probably would've bought it if it was a Piper or a Pilatus PC-12. I've mostly just been flying the Beechcraft Bonanza, Baron, and King air 350i. I like the TBM 930 as well.

im a tad confused as to how the payware guys had access to what they needed before the release to get something close to selling us. but we got the 182 that carenado has handed down to every sim, and is still lacking what we want ever since they released it

Very unfortunate oversight on the livery selection and checklists. I don't recall you mentioning anything about documentation.... Pdf checklists, performance charts, etc...

Can anyone release an airplane with classic Instruments only please! I would totally buy it. I am not a fan of Glass Cockpits. They all look the same and it is just too easy and boring to navigate.

Just wait for A2A. If your not familiar, just google them. They are going to do MSFS2020. Just a matter of getting their other GA aircraft over from FSX/P3D. They focus on making a “living breathing” aircraft. And yes they have a steam gauge 182. It’s phenomenal!

I bought the 182 a few days ago...love flying it...but hate the sound of engine when flying , its a really annoying sound this cant be the real sound it makes surely?

Heh. No. The Carenado 182 sounds like a Rotax engine. Look up videos of people flying A2A's 182 on other sims. If I were you, I would wait for A2A's 182 to eventually be released for FS2020 and buy that.

Many people mention that Carenado lack in systems depth and that they are not study level....but they are not aiming to be study level...here are their mission statement from their site... "Our goal is bringing to the people high quality products that are capable of recreate a simplified flight experience simulation but very close to reality." There it is...simplified flight experience... The high quality is in their visuals. They need however to improve on QC as there normally are bugs in their releases.

it feels like orbyx and carenado have rushed to get the first payware into the marketplace, and it shows. Im going to wait for a few months to see the improvements before buying payware.
