The autogen trees are a well documented problem in this sim, there are far too many and they are far too big, to the point that some approaches are practically impossible because they are blocked by massive 100 foot trees. As a result, many airports look like they are situated in the middle of a rainforest from the ground. This problem was highlighted right back in the very first alpha build, but sadly Asobo don't seem to have addressed it still.
@julietsierra68184 жыл бұрын
I'm a ppl here in Iceland, there are almost no trees literally at all in those hills and mountains, and none especially in that last hill on final, kinda ruins a fun approach. But all in all the sim looks great and I'm excited to get it, I'm happy with 90% of what I have seen so far. Just hope they do something about those darn trees.

If you want better landings, here are some tips. Make sure you’re good and lined up before short final. You should actually be lined up pretty well after you turn from base to final. If you’re struggling to line up, go around and try again. Don’t go too fast. In a 172 you should cross the threshold right around 65 kts. On short final start looking down to the far end of the runway. Like driveling a car, your airplane will go where you’re looking. Look straight down that center line all the way down to the end. That’s the short version of things. Hope that helps.

Because in ye old days, the only way to get to that town was either a boat (which could only operate when there was no ice) or by hiking a few 15 km over mountains (at that time, Iceland was dirt poor so no roads either)
@StallionFX14 жыл бұрын
@@dubious_potat4587 I think he meant, why was it built the way it is. But either way, great response regardless.
@Varasalvi24 жыл бұрын
@@dubious_potat4587 This is probably all correct except ice has never been much of an issue in Iceland, aside from maybe the Great Frost Winter in 1917. But for sure when they built that airport, ice was not an issue. The problem with boats is that they're slow, and even if there's not Ice, weather can hinder them, mainly wind, which Iceland has in spades. Edit: What i can tell you about current day Ísafjörður, which is in a part of the country called Westfjords, is that it's basically just fjords, hence the name. Roads there all follow the fjords and are long as a result. Few people live there, so making tunnels and bridges is not financially practical. I would say that is the reason for the rather forced airport, it just takes too damn long to drive there.

I worked at Futenma. Awesome place to work. Situated really close to American Village, the Battle Sites of Okinawa, and a number of other places. Really cool aircraft coming in and out. Mostly helicopter traffic. Very little fixed wing. Most fixed wing traffic in the area went in and out of Kadena. We'd see one or two a day and sometimes. My buddies would sometimes take F/A-18 and F-15 arrestments that needed training on the E-28 arresting gear that functioned completely differently to the BAK-12 arresting gear at Kadena. Good times. I miss Okinawa a lot. I think I'll go back as a tourist some time, when I won't go to prison for an international felony for staying out past 11:00pm.

In the S model 172 you're flying. Approach speed should be no higher than 71 knots and no lower than 61 knots. Some just use best glide at 68 knots. If you come over the threshold closer to 61, you won't have that float. Also, flaps can be used to rapidly slow speed.
@DiggyPowell4 жыл бұрын
Definitely watch your speed on the 172 on final and short final. In the second clip you went over the numbers at 94 kts. That's 33 kts over the Vref/approach speed of 61 kts for the 172. And is probably the reason you floated the first one. Coming in just a little too hot! Love the content and I'm super hype for the release. Keep it up!

I was stationed in Iceland for 3 years and did some flying there. The weather (high winds) makes it very challenging indeed! My feeling is that they're doing a weak favor to MSFS or themselves. They're showing what the sim fails at the most. They should do what you are doing, local flights, exploit the hook of the new sim, showing how it takes advantage of bing's imagery + blackshark's ai to populate the world with 3d objects. These little local flights make flightsimming a real immersive experience. Again, thank you. I've just subscribed to your channel.

San Diego, at least back in the '90s, had tall buildings in the approach to the runway so the plane has to zig zag around them.
@kg.aviation4 жыл бұрын
Yep! The approach into KSAN is one of my favorites due to its scenery, but also particularly dangerous due to it's proximity to high buildings near downtown and the steep downward slope on short final (hence the long displaced threshold on runway 27). It's also one of the busiest single runway airports in the world (busiest in the U.S). Lastly, given the rapidly changing weather (fog and winds), it's definitely up there on the unique and dangerous airports list. Oh and did I mention the curfew for noise abatement? I would definitely say San Diego is up there in regards to unique and dangerous airports in the world.

Don't let your brain trick you into thinking because you sit on the left or right side, you need to correct for that. The center-line in most cases is even wider than the space between the two seats. Obviously, it's a bit harder with your late approaches, but a go-around is always better than an unsafe landing!

@FarikoUnited14 жыл бұрын
The airport list I assume you saw is specifically referencing the handcrafted airports. Base game has 20 but the other editions add a few more handcrafted(5 per edition for 10 total more in premium edition) and other planes. The airports themselves though will exist in all version, just not in a handcrafted state if you do not have the right edition, and many other airports are in the game as well and usable and can spawn into. Like even standard players can fly and spawn into places like O'hare(deluxe edition handcrafted) and San Francisco(premium edition handcrafted) but wont have the level of detail if not having the upgraded editions that cover them. Over like 37,000 airports are in the game though and usable to spawn in or land on IIRC. Its just paying more for the extra aircraft and the extra ones to be handcrafted where they spent extra time and effort on the airport to make it look even more realistic and nice with added detailing and such.

Interesting. I usually see people using Corchevel as the challenge airport, but since you mentioned only two, I knew that wouldn't be dangerous enough to be that high on the scale. Still, I wonder if Corchevel even gets planes over a certain size there? I'm kind of unfamiliar with that airport prior to FS videos.

You should try the Lukla airport in napal.

I used to do transatlantic flights in fseconomy on a regular basis, and Isafjordur was always one of my favorite stops. A nice change of pace from boring ass Reykjavik.
