I remember playing a flight sim on my Dad's Compaq in the 80s. The map was basically about a 5 mile grid with "mountains" that were just cardboard cutouts on the edges. It had 2 small airports and had a dogfight scenario as well. It was so hard to land because I would over-correct the approach due to the fact that it only got about 3-4 FPS. Whenever I'm flying P3D or X-Plane today and think the graphics could be better, I just think back to that old Compaq.
@crazyenglishkevin5 жыл бұрын
Look at the bottom left of the screen at the mountains @ 3:50. You can see the diagonal line where 2 sets of ortho photoscenery taken at different times meet... That is the first indication the footage is from a simulator 😁

I highly doubt that the blurring was applied in the edit. It’s highly likely it’s an effect in sim. We’ve had DOF effects since the dawn of shaders 😁
@davey37655 жыл бұрын
Your absolutely right - that blurring is keeping the reins on the game so it dosent drop the frames down to stutter level its there for draw-distance limitations without distracting the player and ruining the immersion.

@xample2225 жыл бұрын
7:00 The blur effect isn't done in post production, it's real time, the fx is called depth of field, the effect has been in games for a while now, but it's really taxing so it's the first time seen in a simulator like this, and I bet you will need a monster PC to be able to run that fx all the time without severely lowering FPS. This also apply to the motion blur.

The "depth of field" effect isn't necessarily video editing, it's an effect that's fairly easy to do real time in many game engines.

Perhaps Microsoft decided to pull the trigger mostly because of RTX. Only if there is significant advantage in graphics it makes sense to reboot MSFS thing. Hopefully code base will be 100% new and optimized for multicore CPUs plus new SDK etc because old one is really pain.
@Avantime5 жыл бұрын
It's mostly to do with Phil Spencer's new strategy for Xbox. The Xbone lost this generation's console war to the PS4 because Sony has far better exclusives from their own in-house studios. Now Microsoft is playing catch-up by throwing money at more in-house content and buying indie studios like Double Fine. Resurrecting MSFS is a way to push the Xbox branding into PC gaming, as consoles begin to resemble min-PCs and streaming services like Google Stadia coming to town. While the sim genre is still kinda dead, sims like Euro Truck Simulator made the industry notice that there is a niche market for them.
@billymkirkwood49565 жыл бұрын
For all reasons you guys have stated.. yes PS4 is winning atm.. and MSFS as in house game as well as once a ground breaking flight sim until others caught up and surpassed because of FSX original coding was terrible even tho was set up for 64 bit... it wasnt lol that's why 3rd party devs made it better!! My only concern is I hope it's not too arcade and still keeps the original feel, but I think MS will have definitely thought all about that whilst looking at P3D and X plane 11 whilst they were developing this new sim... looks promising tho by far... could be a game changer 🤔😁😎💪

You can tell from a lot of these clips that they are using 3-D scan and satellite imagery for a lot of the scenery.. The trees and buildings in a lot of areas look a lot like they do on Google earth when you turn on 3-D
@dtrjones5 жыл бұрын
Thats exactly what it is. To me it's a fair compromise to get that level of detail. I have google earth in VR and it's amazing! Sure there are glitches but the overall effect is great.
@AV8R_15 жыл бұрын
David Jones I occasionally use the flight plugin for google earth. It’s neat to fly in areas that are familiar, though the 3D scans are far from perfect, in many ways the experience is still better than FSX. Hopefully fs2020 has a bit better scans, and full planetary coverage, which I doubt.
@dtrjones5 жыл бұрын
@@AV8R_1 yep. From the trailer there is a combination of hand crafted building and scenery generated from satilite images. When you factor in water masking and colour correction it's extremely time consuming to produce and of course takes up a lot of storage. Clearly with the 3d grass on show this sat imagery is only used in limited areas and maybe you have to pay for each one? Ultimately it results in terrific scenery for everybody and if they can do some clever shading tricks we may even get seasons as well (I.e. xenviro 1.10).

Very interesting and well presented analysis, was looking for something just like this! My spontaneous thought is that it's "real time footage - OF A REPLAY" meaning there's no physics calculations going on impeding performance. That would explain the depth of field effects and such too that you often only see/want in replays. If I'm correct in this assumption I think we're in for a lot less 'beauty' when running the actual physics simulation, but I sure hope I'm wrong! Hope to see further vlogs like this as more info about the sim is released! Subbed!

Good video. A few points. 1. The satalite imagery might not be everywhere, they could still be using an updated land class for non satilite areas. 2. The clouds although unquestionably 3D the way it captures the sun, some shots could be showing 2D clouds. 3. Some of the observations will of course be down to the fact it's still early development for the plane systems, road traffic etc and there will be bugs.

Excellent video Ben! Yes, MS bought the rights to what was then SubLogic Flight Simulator from its creator, Bruce Artwick, who produced it to showcase the Apple II computer. It then became Microsoft Flight Simulator. I’ll take issue with you about the current Sims left being P3D and XPlane - you forget that thousands of Simmers who still use FSX and the much better and far improved version, FSX Steam Edition, as available from Dovetail. I still use FSX-SE since I don’t use XPlane and cannot fulfil the EULA conditions of P3D. And Steam Edition runs excellent for me. But I completely agree - this looks tremendous! I just hope that it is not solely for Xbox (has Xbox plastered all over it) users. As a desktop FS user since 1986 and a former tester for MS UK many years ago, I don’t want us non-console users to be left out!! Thanks for the video

This was a very well done video! It was nice that you were able to zoom in on their video to see a few flaws, at least it lets us know that it's the real deal! I started with Microsoft flight simulator in 1990, and I followed through with every last one of their editions including flight! When the original Flight Simulator X ended and they said that they were shutting down, I remember having dreaming about how upset I was about that and telling my wife that I was going to call them up and give them a piece of my mind!! That really happen! I even told my wife about the dream, and she thought I was crazy! But I'm glad to see that they're back I hope that this is going to be the real deal and not some half done flop like flight! I have X-Plane but I've just never been really satisfied with it!

Looks like they're using Google Earth topography, and probably some generic FS stuff to fill up the areas that aren't rendered in 3d in google earth. Then the add some fancy lighting, weather systems etc, and off you go. So this WILL be an online experience, I'm afraid.

This is great eye candy (Best of any sim to date), but what will make this a good sim or not is how accurate the Flight Physics are done, and how open the architecture is for 3rd Party addons. Hmm, I don't think for one minute, not one second, that the entire sim is like this. Microsoft will have simply built a number of high fidelity areas that they can use for publicity purposes and use them within a promo video. I'd also like to wager a bet that those first shots of the clouds and sky won't be found in the sim, a little like when they promoted FSX (?) do you remember how the water looked almost real? I went a little crazy when I saw the announcement...is it April 1st ; announcement like that, out of nowhere? It can't be true! First reactions were denial...and anger, because I have converted to X-plane 11 and just about gotten used to its quirks. The dust has long settled on my extensive FSX add-on collection, but now I wonder if any of them can be re-used in this new iteration of Flight Simulator. I really hope it is not another MS Flight disaster: eye-candy without much simulation substance . Most of all I am curious what system they will choose for flight modelling: the old, crude FSX tabular lookup approach (hope not), X-plane's blade element theory, perhaps a hybrid of both, or my favorite, DCS EFM, where the developer has the means to add as much (or little) detail to the flight model as he wants.

Thanks for sharing this Ben, not seen this before. It will need to be good to rival the existing P3D and XPlane. What I do question is this. There are currently some amazing brains in the FS world, Orbx by way of an example with scenery. Rex simulation for weather, FS Labs say for aircraft. If we are to believe what we are seeing here, and taking it on face value, then there even greater boffs out there capable of producing previously unseen or unequaled quality. On thing is for sure. If what you are showing is true, then the current developers will be burning the candle at both ends!!

I can't believe anybody hasn't noted the strange jetway shape. The legs of the jetway at 8:17 are very unrealistic. They start under the jetway and very close to the hood and not on the side of the jetway as should be be. Also is very noticable the different technique used for city like ( San francisco and Marseille ) compared to dubai. In SF and Marseille the building looks like google earth 3D, so made by using a photorealism, in dubai you can see the skyscrapers made by using " random " textures. I think in this case the artificial intelligent has been used just to recognize the shape and dimension of the building over the photoreal map. Infact if you go on Dubai with google earth you can see, at the exact same position, the real skyscrapers are different.

Forget trailers. Here are the real questions. 1. Does it ship with an open API that's backwards compatible (or has roots to) FSX? 2. Will MS publish a developers kit to allow 3rd party devs to port their stuff to this new sim. Open API is why FSX has lasted as long as it has. Its also the foundation to the 3rd party dev community. Unless Microsoft has tricks up its sleeve to engage these parties, then this sim will evolve into a simple stand alone flight sim game... kinda like MS Flight. And since that bombed, I can only assume MS learned from its mistakes and have answers to my questions: Yes, and Yes.

Backwards compatibility would be rubbish. its the reason the 737 800 and max are outdated compared to airbus. Needs a clean break and start again.,

The trailer shows interesting graphics but doesn't reveal much of the game: will we see a proper AI (ATC, aircraft traffic, even Instructor) or system model (electrical, hydraulics...)? @sjouke1205 жыл бұрын
I tink that a cloud system for this would be the best solution. And there are good reasons for that in my opinion. 1. If you are using Google Earth on a computer with a simple graphic card, you see it works. A 960 Nvidia graphic card works great with google earth, if you use the flight simulation of google earth, it works without stuttering. The reason that google earth flight simulation not stuttering is because it's on a cloudserver. If you would install all the data of google earth on a computer, you would find many problems, especially with the generated 3D objects. 2. If there are any changes in the world. I mean new roads, new buildings etc. it can be updated any moment. Users would not needed these stupid download updates again. Users no longer need to download updates as is the case with X-Plane and Prepar3D, for example. Any changes that are made will then simply be made on the cloud system. Maybe you need to install an update for new planes every now and then, but then it's not that big and it's done faster. In other words, users will be rid of the nagging about the large updates that take so much time. Is it necessary for a cloud system to undergo an update as a result of which the server is temporarily out of service? No! Because Google Earth is always available! So, why would a similar cloud system be taken out of service for maintenance? This would only be done to bother the users sometimes. 3. With an affordable subscription they would be able to get the costs out of it. If Microsoft really promised that the whole earth will be made in 3D, including villages etc. Then you have paid subscribers who normally have nothing to do with flying. But who doesn't want to fly over their own house? You attract people you wouldn't normally be able to attract. 4. Another advantage of a cloud system would be that they would do everything in real time. By that I mean that when you start flying and others are also flying, they are actually active and you see them flying and landing. This brings you so close to reality that people can even more easily obtain a certificate in real life. Establish rules that flyers have to follow. For example, you could also give users the opportunity to function as a tower or as certain ground staff, whatever they want. With a cloud system, you can bring the reality that every aviator has dreamed of so close. Can you imagine it? If Microsoft were to choose this system, it would attract millions of people all over the world. That would make Microsoft even richer, and users would enjoy the game. No more annoying large updates, just small updates to the files on your PC itself. Just install the devices on your PC and the rest of the data on a cloud system. And as I just mentioned. Establish rules for the users they have to comply with. For example, it is not the intention to fly into other players. Because with that you can ruin it for other players, set rules for that. It is also not the intention to reach the same height as Boeings with a Cessna. Set standard rules for that as well. When you are at an airport, together with other players, make sure that everything runs smoothly and that not everything and everyone wants to go up at the same time. Establish rules on this as well. That way, a cloud system would work well and you would bring reality so close.

I wanna believe and i really hope that the Microsoft people show up this trailer a year before or so the official release so they can see and listen the pro-sim community opinion, before come out with something disappointed for everybody, giving the fact that they already have a disaster experience with Microsoft flight, and is just simple, we want a better and improve FLIGHT SIMULATOR, better than prepard and better than xplane11,

It's not a video edit blur, but a "Depth of Field" effect. It's common on modern PC games. Check it out on this GTAV video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hZCaZXhneq6Smqs

Subscription? I play on weekends only, 2-3 hours, it's about 100H per year and about 100 USD. If after 10 years they close their shop and what do I do with this? Just say goodbye to my 1000 USD?

You were expecting free?
@toriyshaov22455 жыл бұрын
No. I did not expect it at all:) I am ready to pay it but I want it to be mine. I do not want it to be like MS Flight which I bought with its every DLC and which I am not able to play as they switched off servers.
@normand58475 жыл бұрын
@@toriyshaov2245 I'm certain that it will be available for purchase. It will also be available on Gamepass. You will need XBOX Live subscription, for online services.

ok say the graphics are actually real and the sim actually looks like that. What NASA supercomputer will you need to run it. Like lol the sim could be fantastic straight out the box, aircraft as well but then guess what you have to pay 10 grand to get yourself the best PC out there.

Not as good as these, the lighting, the shadows and the transparency are the best we've ever seen in a flight sim.

Also time will show. So far we We have not heard word from PMDG, FlyTampa, ImagineSim, Aerosoft, SimWings, Orbx, etc 3rd party devs. if they are ruled out then MSFS is long gone. But maybe good to new comers who are interested flight sim genre. because the price is just 10 USD for Xbox and 5 USD per month if PC.

This sim may just kill off scenery developers though. Airport developers might be able to keep up but large regions may be out the window. I do agree though, if they can get some good aircraft developers on board this sim will be amazing.
@aarnjer5 жыл бұрын
@@dannnnn496 So far we dont see PMDG in near future years to jump into MSFS 737NG3 in dev 747 and 777 in update schedule +many other dev at time. FSlabs havent heard about Concorde for P3D4 but im sure they are focusing dev to P3D as MSFS alfa/beta is running most scenery developers are quite thght NDA whit MGS if they already have somekind SDK tool to build improved scenery from ground up and rewrite the code.

On Avsim some people are bitching but Rob A the so called FS Guru is already going on about the flaws lol. This sim blows P3D and every single add on ever produced for FS out of the water.

Analyzing something based on looks isn't that good an idea. Might look nice but from past experience, it usually means they have spent more time doing that rather than Flight physics and all the other in-depth flight systems. Maybe I'm wrong and Microsoft has made the perfect Flight sim. I won't be holding my breath.
