I personally think Microsoft should take a good look at themselves and also realise that people don't want to use windows because of the consistent data collection and all the advertising did Microsoft really think people were going to put up with constant nag screens for products and games. The incessant advertising built into the operating system is now becoming the main reason why people are leaving. It's too slow too bloated and Microsoft we'll have to start going in a different direction otherwise they may have nothing left in the future

and also who wants to buy a digital Xbox game when your forced to have a xbox live subscription to "buy, Download and in most cases play" when steam and PC gaming has no such such restrictions? i don't see the reason why console platforms even need charge this fee. as in most cases it's Buy and done. It's not like everyone plays live service titles or only MP titles. we the Homeowner, pay for our braodband. Why the hell should we have to pay a "subscription" due to the device we're using, when on a comparible Device such as PC we can dothe exact same tasks and for free? Unfortunately, MS and allied don't care. They know everyone and their mother will have their products and use them and that just like pay to play, they have to do the d McAfee line of reasoning and insert themselves (Google) into every facet of our electronic existence. Proton and improving library support are bridging the gap. We have an article about this.
@The8bitbeard
@The8bitbeard 10 күн бұрын
For games at least, Valve and Codeweavers work on Proton makes creating native Linux builds unnecessary. Linux purists don't like to hear it, but it's true. Why support two builds of your game when you can just have one build (Windows), and test to ensure it runs fine on Linux via Proton? Even now with some games that have native Linux builds, it's often better to force it to run the Windows version with Proton instead.

It's likely that Valve knows that a lot of gamers (like myself) are still on Windows 10 and have no intention of "downgrading" to Windows 11. Microsoft will probably try and make life miserable for people that remain on Windows 10, so Valve providing an alternative with SteamOS makes sense. As a side note, I have noticed that a lot of Indie Game Developers are releasing fixes for their games that provide better compatibility with Steam Deck. This makes sense as their games fit well with the Steam Deck and this broadens the possible customer base beyond just PC gamers.

Yea, gaming is getting closer to perfect on Linux over Windows. Only issue I have had in the past few months was Star Wars Outlaws didn't work very well so I had to get GeForce NOW to be able to play it. But, it didn't take super long for Valve to patch it with Proton Experimental. Otherwise, games work fine (I have like 50 games installed at the moment, I have gaming ADHD lol). And games with anti-cheat, the problem is mainly the developers of the games. Anti-cheat IS supported on Linux (I have played Helldivers 2, The First Descendant, Marvel Rivals, The Finals and a few others just fine). It's just up to the developers themselves to allow that support. The anti-cheats do need to have better capabilities on Linux, though. I am curious why they don't move forward with server side anti-cheats.
@MagmaSlime-nb5ts

Most game devs are lazy when it comes to this issue, and it certainly won't get any better if that laziness keeps going.
@OkerlundTV
@OkerlundTV 12 күн бұрын
@@MagmaSlime-nb5ts It's not about being lazy. Developers just believe there are more cheaters on Linux since it is easier without the kernel level anti-cheat. While that is true in some cases, they just have a lot of misinformation when it comes to it. Like Apex, they had Linux support with the anti-cheat but then removed it. Apparently we are all hackers.
@ThePlayerOfGames
@ThePlayerOfGames 10 күн бұрын
Client-side kernel-level "anti cheat" allows data harvesting as a business model. Same reason the Google and Microsoft web browsers record everything you type in the URL bar, default to using Google and Microsoft DNS, and offer "web safety let us check your website before you go to it"; (so they can track everything you do and everywhere you go). Games that force Linux off with their "anti cheat" are exploitative to their users each and every time, the correlation is readily apparent.

Microsoft: We're losing control, lets get Windows working better on different devices for the gamers since we did so well with Windows 8 and Windows Phone in the past. Gamers: We hate Microsoft's direction with Windows. In Valve we trust! Microsoft getting forced to actually compete for a chance for their OS is a good thing....but don't expect them to play fair. Microsoft didn't get their monopoly on the desktop OS market by playing fair. They haven't been keeping it for so long by playing fair. Expect a lot of underhanded moves to happen as they duke it out with anyone trying to make a Linux alternative for gaming.

I don't think Microsoft will be capable of doing anything without the cloud. They already do this with Office 365. And they can only have so many customers realize that making people save to One Drive confuses normal users enough when they can't find them or forbid, their Microsoft account can't be logged into and they just lost all their documents for them to realize how bad of a deal their sub is. I don't doubt Microsoft wants the switch on your gaming access just so they can hold it over your head if you don't have Xbox live (or whatever they call it these days).

10:39 the Xboxes have always run Windows For Xbox with different skins (which means there was Windows NT for PowerPC). So the Xbox Series is running Windows 10/11 For Xbox x86_64, which is one reason those consoles are horrifically unstable, and that means they can port the Xbox One/Series UI to PC as a ahortcut. The main problem is they'll port the current version of the UI rather than the 2010s original release version which has been *significantly* downgraded since.

Monopolies are not bad in and of themselves. It's when a monopoly is gained and/or maintained by leveraging resources and market dominance to prevent competition from cropping up and thriving that you have a problem. How is it a problem to have a monopoly when the competition has every opportunity to provide a better product, but instead would just rather try to bring you down so that they don't have to improve? Epic game store is a prime example of this. People have all sorts of complaints about missing features and other issues, but instead of fixing what people are complaining about, Epic insists on drawing in customers by getting exclusivity deals, and even doing scummy things like buying out Kickstarter projects that were promising Steam keys on release (Mechwarrior 5 being an example of this). This is exactly the type of company you don't want having a monopoly, because they would rather use coercion to draw in customers rather than provide value.

I finally 100% moved to Arch 5-6 months ago and wont ever go back. Dont respect my privacy and what I want on the pc i built myself? Then I won't miss ya, just thank god it got so much easier to game cause Id test on and off for years if I could make the switch. One day I put it on my laptop, tried some Steam games and even some non Steam games and even Windows applications with Proton and was like wait holy cow. Test ran it on my main Desktop on a separate drive and said finally then purged Windows from all 3 pcs.

Im not a gammer i do have a decent sized livbrary in steam though. Of my 153 games 114 are fully supported on linux now 2 are partially supported ( they work with maybe a few glitches.) Of the ones that dont work 4 dont work due to anti cheat engines. ( i dont play online games) of the rest all of them are pre 2012 and half of them are pc ports. I have just as many if not more ports that are working just fine though (mostly newer ports) As for software all of my everyday software is already native to most linux distros so i plan to switch as soon as support for win 10 ends.

Something works OK, don't fix it ? MS, replace good working software in a ruthless effort to keep on working. Mas took Minecraft of Mojang Ii oppose this focus of MS on aquire all these platforms or centralize accounts. Cloud gaming for me general a casual space without ever lasting vallue !

I enjoy gamepass but I haven't bought a single game on the xbox store. I will absolutely be switching to SteamOS on PC once it's available. Microsoft has just consistently made the windows experience worse with every update since 7. and I will be damned if I will have ads and AI spying shoved down my throat by my operating system.

They had no default audio player, and added one so that we didn't have to use a video player or scan our music library every time we clicked an audio file. That was a good decision.

M$ is dumb they alienated their entire PC gaming base for 24 years, for XBOX, and now the XBOX ship is sinking. Now they want windows gamers to act like nothing happened while they just produced crap version after crap version of windows that focuses less and less on gaming and wastes more and more and more resources. All while producing one of the worst DIGITAL STORES on the market expecting you to buy from it when its drm encryption is so bad it can mess up the apps its running and even windows itself. Yeah. I do hope linux gets better, but I will say right now, its not there yet. It's getting close but its not there yet, not enough that I would want to completely ditch windows. Valve might get it there tho in the next few years.
