Went back to my first class yesterday in a year. My spouse said she would be comfortable once I had my vaccine. I received my second dose two days ago. I felt like absolute crap from the vaccine but I was happy as hell to be back in class. I took your advice from a previous video and invested in physical fitness and over all health. Lost weight, kept food clean, kept my cardio up.

Good for your brown belt buddy! I recently lost 70lbs, and trying to do 10 miles every single day. Getting my rona shot on Friday and starting BJJ as soon as my gi comes in the mail. Partially thanks to YOU and your quality videos. Thanks Chewy!

@Greg Lurik you are absolutely right Greg! The other bit may be that you’re so damn old and frail (frail susceptible they’re called in epidemiological terms, or sometimes “dry tinder”) that you would’ve died literally from the next fall or sickness you contracted. Data shows that the majority who actually die shortly after vaccination are OLD.

Couldn't agree more, man. Hated being locked down but stuck to my diet (with only minor setbacks here and there) and continued to work out consistently (had to for sanity's sake) and it felt so *good* getting back on the mats!!! Nothing though beats a good roll. It's such a unique form of exercise you can't get from anything else. Other stuff helps but definitely not a replacement. Love it!

Always amazing chewy ! Still can't get back to training, in France... I CAN'T WAIT This video is giving me hope for my comeback, I feel good right now ! And interestingly, not being able to train for a long time really made me realise how much grappling was important to me. It made me more ambitious ! Now I'm motivated to go compete a lot, and live my grappling life fully. As always, thanks a lot chewy ! You're a great guy !

Still waiting to get back to rolling on the mats. I went up 22lbs, then I started taking control of my diet and started exercising and am now 22lbs down again. Gonna aim for another 22lbs, so I’m in better shape when the rolling starts up here in Norway.

I stayed dedicated to working out and watching bjj vids. I'm at a way lower level, so it's been frustrating coming back. It's mostly hard to gauge where I'm at skill wise, as everyone else kept training. I can't really tell if I'm at the same level I was and everyone else has just gotten a lot better, or if I am really just behind my prior level.

Hi Chewy, I just started jiu jitsu, it took me a while to get the nerve to go. The first class I went for was great, I had a good partner to drill with and was motivated to go back. In the second class it was terrible, I got a different partner who shouted at me alot and left me to watch the other people drilling after a few min and I couldn't wait to leave. I'm not sure if I should find another gym or stick it out. Because it's worrying to be going to the class nervous about whether you're going to learn or not depending on who decides to work with you. Nobody wants to roll with me either after drilling because I don't know anything so I sit on the side and watch or leave.

Sounds brutal, but being off the mats since September 20, I convinced myself that I'll NEVER be back on the mats - that forced me to deal with the question: What now? So I started boxing with that one friend we are still allowed to do something with (in Germany right now) and try to keep fit with running and cycling. I still hope that I can return this fall - but we will see. But, man, IF I am back on the mats, I'll hug all these amazing people so hard that some of em will pass out. :)

I have a problem I noticed recently. Maybe I’m not being aggressive enough in training and I’m finding myself accepting positions I shouldn’t for the sake of trying to be a good training partner... for example if I’m playing top I will let the person pull whatever guard they want then I will react and start trying to pass....so I’ll spend my time trying to unwind a collar sleeve DLR or a lasso guard instead of just grip fighting and putting pressure in the pass from the start....

I'm a blue belt and haven't trained in over a year. I've moved to a new town, ready to join a new bjj school once we reopen. I know im going to absolutely suck ass. It's going to be tough to go back to it especially when ego is so hard to shake. Having white belts tap you on the regular. And then your mind tricks you into believing other people thinking 'how did you get your blue belt?' Has anyone took over a year off to go back as a coloured belt and felt these anxieties?

I have a question for anyone that can answer. I just started bjj I only did 2 classes but my body is super sore. I am planning on just doing 3 days my first week and trying to get up to 5 eventually. I was wondering if I should just push through the pain ( I'm 19) or give my body time to recover.
@robertturner70903 жыл бұрын
Like chewy said, everyone is sore when they haven't rolled in a while. Just started 2 weeks ago after a year out of the gym and I was sore for a solid 4 days . I'm back to normal now after 5 rolls. Think its personal preference whether you RICE or just push through.....but either way your body adapts and me personally I just ease back in.
@nelsonperez95463 жыл бұрын
@@robertturner7090 I think I got to rest I am not use to this much soreness. Part of my wants to tough it out and push on. Out of curiosity how was it for you when you just started. Also thanks for answering.

after a couple weeks of training, your body will be able to handle how ever much training you’d like. i’d stay with 2-3 a week and good rest in between, and you’ll feel when you’re ready to go.
