My grandparents had the coolest 60's era record console/entertainment center I've ever seen. I spent a lot of time lying on the floor in front of it watching braves games with my grandfather and (I kid you not) pro wrestling with my grandmother. This build is an homage to that piece of functional art.

I've seen a lot of functional furniture builds, but it's so cool to see how big of a difference some of these angles make to the final look. You're on a whole other level, man.

Best video I’ve watched. Just now at 34 years of age, I am wanting to learn woodworking and furniture making. I literally grew up with my family owning a personal 2 man saw mill, and had access to a HUGE wood shop with endless wood, supplies and space. I am kicking myself in the ass for not taking advantage of it. I did so a bunch of stuff with my stepdad, helping build a house, remodels, tons of random stuff like cabinets but always looked at it like a chore. Ugh! This piece u did is gorgeous! Just bought my first home, and it’s brand new “turn key” but realize I don’t have any nice furniture really. I desperately want to make this exact thing. Gorgeous. Thanks for sharing. Wish I could come apprentice with you for quite awhile. Lol

You could make this with a circular saw and a drill if you had to. Give it a try!

OMG that cable hiding place was brilliant! This piece is exactly how you describe your grandparents, it is a piece of functional art!

Hey guys. We really cranked the stereo the other night and I kept hearing this weird rattle. After a little bit of investigation we figured out it was the false backs that hide the cables. Fixed it by gluing little pieces of felt to the back of them. Keep that in mind if you decide to build something like this. Thanks for watching!

That's a beautiful piece of mid-century furniture! I see you did 3/4" dado cuts on the top and bottom pieces to support the interior dividers but I do not see their intersections on the front of the final piece. You must have used edge banding?

Hi Wahi Woodworks, love this cabinet. What type of wood are you using. I am planning on building my own cabinet to match the wood on the chassis of my record player and I think this wood is ideal to get the finished look I am going for. Please let me know what type of wood you used for this project. Excellent work.

Great build! I'm going to use this as a guide for something similar. A little smaller. Question. The side panels, what did you do to cover the raw cut of the plywood. It looks like the end panels were cut at the exact measurement from bottom to top, not allowing enough room for the homemade wooden veneer you made.

I’m pretty sure I edge banded it. Just went back and watched the video and apparently I didn’t film it. I don’t really remember what I did.

Love the build man, like the push open trick on the flap to hide the wires. One of these days I want to use the walnut plywood, where did you get that from online or at a store
@wahiwoodworks3324
@wahiwoodworks3324 4 жыл бұрын
Longhorn Workshop thanks. I actually live about five minutes from a supplier that sells it along with pre finished cabinet grade plywood. You can get it at woodcraft buts crazy expensive. You might ask around local cabinet shops who their suppliers are. I work at a cabinet shop so that’s how I found out about it.

Nice overall design but the pocket screws are garbage. They don’t last….
@wahiwoodworks3324
@wahiwoodworks3324 2 жыл бұрын
Pocket screws have their place. In this application, holding the base onto the cabinet, where literally zero torsional or shear forces will be applied, it’s perfectly adequate. I appreciate your concern.
