Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor - What happens if you don't have a Nemesis?

Once again I manage to twist the game in unexpected ways!
In this video I show you what happens if you do not have a Nemesis, specifically during the story mission "Lord of Mordor" in which you face your biggest rival.
What you see in this video took over a month to pull off. The complexity of moving bodyguards from one Warchief to another and the careful movements to avoid all Captains possible proved to be quite challenging.
I must admit, I was really impressed when I got to the end of this journey.

I wish we could've kept rat bag as a war chief that acts as a dominated warchief just without blue eyes and if they were feeling generous a way to order him to do shit without putting your hand on his head and doing that whole thing.

I actually faced a ally who was my nemesis and died, because of that he came back in the end to lead the fight, it was epic and sad because he was the first I branded and helped me a lot during the game and when he came back it was like a seen from a tv show, but it also kinda poetic, he was a nobody who killed me then became a level 5 captain and had abilities that I couldn't counter, he killed me 5 separate occasions and even killed my war chief, and then when I branded him he helped me with Uruks that had massive groups in epic fights but in one fight he lunged at a chief who downed me and when I got up he was thrown and fell into the ocean, and at the end we fought to see who was better, great game :3

Mind. Blown. I really want to know whether he is just a default uruk the game uses, or he really was meant to survive and betray Talion while the game was developed... Probably the former, because of different voice actors. But still, something to think about. Thanks for your work, great video!

the game uses a long complex system without an actually nemesis it goes by the named orc you came into contact the most. so it gave the name ratbag and the generic voice of the orc fitting that size and description.

D'shaun Wilson The game tends to pick whoever you run into the most, with slight- but not complete- preference as to who kills you more if appearances are close enough. In my case it was this guy who just refused to die... But he seemed to get a new prosthetic every time we fought. First it was a metal arm... And eyepatch (sometimes he appeared in the middle of a hoard of regular enemies, completely disguised until I directly attack him)... By this mission he had a bag head, fork arm, peg leg, a few metal pieces- he was basically a cyborg. Albeit a really puny one. considering I came across a guy named "Zog Hot Tongs" even more often, and he usually surrvived, I was suprised it wasn't him.

Yeah, I totally feel that. I started playing the game and got killed by Grisha, Sword Master. I thought I ran into him the most, but what ended up happening was I just fought this lame Blade Sharpener dude that died with a couple of executions. Such a lame final boss type guy.

My nemesis was really lackluster. His name was Krimp the Bitter. I died to him a few times because he'd show up to battles I didn't expect him to be at and kill me since he was a ranged uruk. Since he was ranged, fighting him alone during this mission was really easy. What was interesting though and I thought the game had taken this into account but it might just be one of the random additions when they come back is that he had a bag over his head. I thought it was because the last time I had defeated him I exploded a fire near him and that must mean his face was singed.

He was probably a placeholder during testing. Note that Ratbag wasn't originally in the game as anything other than another random nemesis. It wasn't until his positive reception from the fans that he was written into the story as a legitimate character in the Shadow of Mordor continuity. That was when his voice actor was changed as well.

What i would think would happen 1. You would fight the 2 twins 2. Random uruk (Not Captian) 3. No one I thought of Ratbag but i was like "Probably, Maybe, By chance, OK NO" And just a quick thing that Stephen Trail Said "I'd like a Ratbag cameo in SoM 2." I agree. And also it would be cool if you could find Easter eggs of Famous Nemesises from KZbinr, Example (Tear of Grace) Prak Jaws. Maybe you could find his Mask or something like that. Any ideas? And 1 last thing. Does anyone here think it would be cool to be able to get your Warchiefs from your Shadow of Mordor save to your Shadow of War Save?

I had possibly the worst Nemesis during my early playthrough of this game. I don't recall his name or complete list of traits, but he definitely had Invulnerable to Ranged, Invulnerable to Stealth, Combat Master and Fear of Burning. In the early game, I lacked any means of damaging him or setting him on fire and when I defeated him the first time it was because he randomly stepped in a camp fire while I was 100 yards away, had to chase him down to make sure I could get rid of him. Of course because he'd killed me several times prior to that he got a second try, and it still took me a while to get him into a weakened state to kill him. I was both relieved and disappointed when he showed up again in the final battle and he was basically just a bog-standard captain.

I still remember my first nemesis fondly, his first name was Dush but I don't recall his title. I do know he was immune to ranged and stealth and had hate of pain. He killed me about 5 times before I finally beat him but he kept coming back and engaging me all around Udun and each time the winner was anyone's guess. After a while I stopped seeing him and was happy but also sad at the same time. When I started Lord of Mordor and saw his glued on head I gave a smile big enough to make the Joker jealous. His speech showed Talion off as a danger but still carried a bit of respect for his rival, I think Talion responded to him well. Through the whole fight I completely forgot about Sauron and the Black Hand, this was the true final battle. I still remember it as the fiercest fight I've had in my countless playthroughs, and it is one I shall never forget.

I've gone without a 'proper' Nemesis (behead/head explode **perma-kill** all), but never forced this situation. Doesn't even have his proper voice for this bit (nor should he as he is dead by this point in the story by the hand of the Hammer). Done many different runs (Talion ONLY, Celebrimbor ONLY, Pacifist+, NUR+, PAIN+, Beast Master, Wraith ONLY, Ranger ONLY and so on), but never arranged for this. Well done.
@BigVEE
@BigVEE 7 жыл бұрын
>how Unfamiliar with challenge run work, testing and the like? I'll start with a quote from Ernst Stuhlinger (former Associate Director of Science for NASA), "...significant progress in the solutions of technical problems is frequently made not by a direct approach, but by first setting a goal of high challenge which offers a strong motivation for innovative work, which fires the imagination and spurs men to expend their best efforts, and which acts as a catalyst by including chains of other reactions." The first run was just vanilla stuff. Learning the path to beating the game, collecting junk, seeing the story, etc. Light horsing around with all that is available (no real structure). Maybe try clearing a map (trying to outkill repopulation **eventually with perma-kills**) and even own it all. Fairly simple stuff. Next comes the most obvious challenge you can do in games where improvement is an option. Just don't use (read: spend) means to improve the player character (no new abilities via points **progression is allowed**, no stat improvement, no extra slots, etc.). See how much the difficulty increases for having done this, find solutions with that which you're afforded (which ends up being a lot of progression based abilities before long **given how the game is**) and all that jazz. PAIN+ would make sense for taking it further. Have to be more careful as runes (good for healing among other things), herbs (healing), progression based unlocks, arrows/focus (resources used), etc. are not allowed (while also having NUR+ rules in place). Didn't really see fit to allow warping here (as done with a few other runs). Mostly this keeps me from exploiting range as an option, makes me pay dearly for errors (only near death slight life regen can help short of death) or exploiting the progression abilities I might otherwise have had on the table (Wraith Flash and Brand **others fighting for me isn't to my liking anyway**). This is really just a more pure version of what NUR type runs go for (here I would be working with only the options I have after the tutorial and without using resources (and handouts) where I'm able to avoid them. There are other runs based on themes like Ranger ONLY (only moves from Ranger side), Wraith ONLY (same idea), Melee ONLY, Dagger ONLY (alternatively, Stealth ONLY **which would be sort of a 'Big Boss' type deal**), Bow ONLY (alternatively, Range ONLY **allowing for throwing daggers**), Talion ONLY (animations not involving Celebrimbor **those that randomly have him are still fine, but this condition covers a whole lot of options if you think about it**) and Celebrimbor ONLY (opposite flavor **though it is a bit much to ask that you always stay in Wraith World/Vision when able**). Pacifist would ask you don't kill directly (enviro would be allowed along with hurting people to near death, but not being the finishing blow via damage) while Pacifist+ doesn't allow you to deal any damage yourself (or even toss someone off a cliff). Have to get enemies to jack each other up, lead them into hazards, take them to monsters (and vice versa) and so on. Beast Master covers the obvious focus on monster assistance. Overlord for minions (which doesn't really start until halfway into the game). If I was more familiar with the game by the same title, I might have had more rules to keep with that theme. Frankly, Ghuls (as in LotH) wouldn't be out of line (given their qualities **and the suicide bomb usage of them**). Aside from runs, even just 'feats' could be fun (beating a strongholds ability to replenish while alerted, high hit count, long survival with tons of kills, besting beasts with just basic melee, going without intel giving answers away, not using 'vision' to see 'all', etc.). NOTE: One run I regret not getting to finish (went on to other work and didn't get back to it) was a 'pure NUR'. It is my feeling we start with a large number of abilities we shouldn't have without investment (sprinting grab, crouch sprinting, long falls, last chance, flurry, bow distract, etc. **it is a long list**) . I made a list and simply outlawed their use in addition to normal NUR+ rules (this would still allow for eventually progression based unlocking of Wraith Flash, Poison Grog, Brand, Shadow Strike and so on). This just to get a feel for what things might be like when as gimped as I personally feel we should be (though maybe I should also have allowed for upgrading of abilities while adjusting costs with tiers with the basics at 1, but that would be a pain for me to keep track of myself **just doing without suits me anyway**). At the core, I enjoy the combat and especially the encounters with Uruk (nice selection of brutal kills tickle my fancy aside from environmental aid, factions, in-fighting and the like). The base just didn't have enough challenge, so my adding some (if only by gimping myself), I get more enjoyment while also creating situations where I might need to great creative (learn some new tricks **especially about options I might otherwise not have paid mind**). Problem-solving is part of it to be sure (engages the mind). Finding new solutions applicable outside the run is just another aspect of mastery (deepening appreciation for the game). As I figure it, I spent a lot of money for the purchase, so I should get a lot from the game. Being of the 'Action' variety, this is pretty much how it is to be done (as one-and-done is a flawed angle of approach, I'd say). NOTE: It was cute playing dress-up too for some runs where I felt one costume (that do nothing **something of a misstep on their part, I feel as with being unable to take 'Bright Lord' into the main game, use non-Talion characters like Sauron if only to horse around in an arena, etc.**) might fit the idea better than the default attire (also reminding me what I was doing). Wasn't a fan of having so few save file slots, personally. I found myself sometimes in a tough situation where my conditions did not agree with the situation, so I had to work harder to find a solution (which served as a more rewarding experience than trampling everything with relative ease). That is, if I could avoid exceptions/violations (which I believe was rarely an issue). One foe in particular (a War Chief in LotH) was a pain in Talion ONLY (had an unlisted regen when I left him alone **so I could not chip him with Stealth Attacks until dead**, was a Monster Slayer **immune to the spit and out of reach for the grab where the creature they force on me is concerned**, was a Combat Master (shutting down simple beatings and weakening executions) and a Vault Breaker (obvious issue). His weapon of choice was not open to counters to begin with (and didn't allow Last Chance antics **explosives that take you to 0HP just finish you**). Zugor Beast Butcher is a chump to range, but Talion has no range. The bow uses the wraith as does throwing daggers. As before, even if I wanted to (and the rules permitted), I couldn't get the Wretched Graug up to his position (you can sneak around the place and climb most of the structure, but they didn't make a path that quite leads to him **nor can you get him down**), he wouldn't leave (no poison grog antics or anything else, really) and so on. I had to face him and his unique rapid fire explosives (with quick fire, I think **don't know that he was also 'Deadly', but he didn't need to be either**) head-on. The solution? Vaulting. Vault-breaking doesn't matter much as you are invincible throughout the reversal, take no damage from it and don't even lose momentum (hit count, dizzy build, etc.). I'd side evade his volley, slap him a time or two, interrupt his next move with a vault, get throw away, anticipate his next barrage, evade it and repeat while building towards high hit count heavy blows (stronger, faster, more reach, stronger hit properties, heavier dizzy building, etc.) and dizzying him (so I could Ground Execute **though not able to use Vault canceling to keep that loop up, I could still use it to keep the plan simple**). Not having access to Wraith Stun (because that uses Celebrimbor) was another reason things weren't a one-way-street (had he not been a Combat Master, Celerimbor ONLY here would have just been a mockery of holding circle next to him if not just one charged head shot or Lethal Shadow Strike). NOTE: Working around Metal Shield, Combast Master Defenders with pure melee can be a challenge, too (so long as you don't have rage and just go wild or something).

Warrior: Just enough to give you some idea about the challenge runner mindset (approach to getting more from games) while pointing to runs to consider for this particular title (aside from the option to re-style them for other titles as some do work **obviously NUR/NUR+ will fit many games as plenty have systems for improving oneself to rule out**). Yena: >most humans >humans Curious choice of term use (seems like an unnecessary extra word). An appeal to the majority, is it? Though one does wonder if your assertion holds (in particular with those who would have done such run work **and answered your question at all**). Hard to tell. I'd have to advise considering your surroundings. Does this look like some social networking site with an imposed character limit laughable enough that working a properly presented and full thought into is hardly a realistic option (for a single post)? >summary A summary that loses effectiveness owed to shortening ceases to be valid (at best, something like what you note could be tagged on to go with a more in-depth explanation). The devil is in the details, friend. It seems you've got a very basic understanding to the question you'd posed (though one does wonder if you properly read what was offered when that is the whole of your takeaway **only to repeat your query**). >not asking Secretly begging, it seems. **hohoho** >I need even more details You see? That which you noted would be insufficient. If anything, I was too brief for your tastes. This after saying you understood (so clearly your words are not in agreement **introspect on this**). >don't I think I do, but one wonders if you've done enough of it. As before, I'd have to suggest you reflect on the previous provided response. The quote given should be enough to answer you question, yet here you are (still playing clueless). >same mechanics Yes, and? Perhaps you hadn't noticed, but learning them better is part of this process (in which multiple playthroughs is going to be more effective than just dicking around while MAX'd in 'NG+' **too much at once will create blindspots as even with what I was doing, I didn't use some options all that much, so would have needed to force myself to focus on abilities like Pin in Place for a fuller appreciation and evaluation**) >same cutscenes What are you? A casual (one who fails to seek mastery)? Who cares about that? Shall you next wonder why seeing the same graphics, hearing the same tracks and such didn't wear on my ability to enjoy a video game (gameplay is king if you haven't been picking up what I'm putting down). >gets boring Clearly you're inexperienced with the appeal of higher settings (of even the simplest variety **merely altering stats**) much less the idea of self-imposed restrictions (taking away options while magnifying focus on others to create new challenge and allow for more discovery through necessity). NOTE: Frankly, that which I offered was a summary. How do you handle books if something that wouldn't even fill a page is such a struggle?

Moments like this are when it truly counts to have a clean 'presentation' (so your meaning is not lost to laziness, errors, etc. **proof-reading is a good tool to consider as with the edit feature too often overlooked**). >this is 'internet' Where your means to communicate is almost entirely limited to text. Effective communication is of paramount importance. Do keep that in mind, won't you? Moreover, school is always in session here. Fun thing to do with brand is to link ALL the uruks under ONE warchief. Then you can summon the whole Nemesis board and make their heads explode in a big gore fest. That was one of the two things I'd done in a lastditch to not get bored of this game.

HappyPhilXD It never determines it because that was the point he stopped being useful to Talion and the story. He could no longer advance the plot. This was probably the games way of just filling in a random orc so that this battle could still work. Technically speaking, he is dead. Unless they decide to bring him back.

My nemesis were Felgarat the Fool (I died by his hands so many times he became elite captain before the second main mission). The catch is that I manage to kill Felgarat in an ambush a little later after he stumbled upon his only fear: a Graug. Even so he appeared again as the final nemesis. They manage to ressurect him, but like in this video he wasn't fighting well as he usually fought (he was nearly invincible without sploiting his fear). Basically a normal uruk with Felgarat's voice and appearance

I had this awesome nemesis throughout my whole game called Uggu Heart Eater, id killed him 5 times but he kept returning, with an awesome new scar or prosthetic each time, but come this mission the game throws a totally random Uruk I have literally never met or identified at me and called him my nemesis and the ending fell totally flat because of it, I loved the nemesis concept I just hope they perfect it in shadow of war

I beat the whole game without having a 'nemesis'. I either killed the captain or ran away before I would get molested by the entire Uruk horde. The closest thing to a nemesis I had was some crossbow guy that knocked me off an edge, and he didn't even get promoted for it.

I assumed my nemesis would be the uruk that killed me in the beginning of the game as a nobody, became a captain, then eventually a war chief with how many times I died to him. He literally had every strength possible and had almost no weaknesses. But I got some other shithead as my nemesis instead and it was so uneventful when I got to the end just to see a guy that killed me maybe 3 times total, rather than the guy that killed me well over 20 times

I remember my first nemesis, damned impossible to kill. Immunity to range The only that makes them sense you so it's almost impossible to sneak up on him, and that was his only weakness... Immunity to finishers And the captain I interrogated about him, he had a fear of! At first I could sometimes kill him, but as he killed me (or was resurrected) it became a nightmare. It got to the point where I didn't feel safe if I wasn't riding a graug.

I technically didn't have a nemesis at that point in the game because the only contenders I had were either branded or decapitated, so the game basically had an aneurysm or something and instead of giving me a random captain who was not yet dead/branded or something like that, I got a most unexpected threat: There was once an uruk captain archer that gave me quite a lot of trouble, in quite the bullcrap way as well. He would show up while I was right in the thick of battle with an entirely unrelated warchief or captain and one shot me because he had a machine gun for a crossbow, and then instead of trying to kill me he would just insult me and walk off to disappear into the nether realm when I got my second wind. It was annoying because I knew I could slaughter him but it was just impossible as he would only appear when I was in the middle of something and I couldn't properly hunt him down. One time I managed to kill him when he appeared instead of getting randomly one shot, but I didn't decapitate him and so he just appeared with a plate over his skull, killing me again. I managed to kill him again when he got caught up in a hunt or something along those lines, a power struggle of some sort anyways, and that time I had decapitated him and it was decidedly gratifying as at that point he was the only uruk to best me time and time again and only through dropping in unexpectedly with a gatlingbow. For a time I thought he was permanently dead, but during this mission he came back to life one final time with the most damage I've ever seen any one uruk captain have at once (some kind of bag roped around his face with his lips missing, metal plate over his skull and scarred to hell and back, etc. etc.) Apparently even he was sick of being brought back to life over and over and over again because when I finally killed him (for some reason his shots were extremely slow and nowhere near as damaging in comparison to his original bolts, so it was actually pretty easy compared to literally every other time I fought him) he relished the fact I was about to butcher him. Something along the lines of "Yes! Now, give me a captain's death!"
