genuine question as I came pretty late in the game to any Black Keys -- is Gold On The Ceiling looked at by many of the fans to have become such a ubiquitous mainstream hit that it's not really one of their true "respected" type works anymore? even so I got no shame in saying I am insane for that song. Especially considering where the Black Keys as a whole band don't really hold too major a place for me honestly in the pantheon of things most meaningful and impactful to me in my life (I'm 45), not like I've ever sat it down to chart it out on paper, but I think Gold On The Ceiling may very well be within my top 100 favorite songs ever, considering every genre tossed in there. And trust me even a lower number in that grouping is still very high in the grand scheme.

You frgot to mention that Patrick and his uncle were the ones behind the Bojack Horseman theme song! It sounds as ''Turn Blue'' as it gets, didn't even surprise me when I found that out. They recorded a whole Song Exploder podcast on the song, and it's from last year, I guess

It is nowhere near their worst album, and tops most of their old work. Many of their old fans are just salty as fuck, they want the keys to be nothing but the old bluesy gritty sound. The confuse their preference for that sound as it being "better."

If you've been a Black Keys fan for 10-15 years, it is definitely their worst album. Mainly for the reason that it sounds absolutely nothing like the band they had been for a decade, its essentially indie pop. Which is fine, I'm all for experimentation, but being such a huge fan of the blues that album really let me down.

Charlie Forbes Despite the drama I feel like Jack White and The Black Keys are actually pretty different even though they come from similar blues and rock influences. The black keys have more of a soul/alt/rockabilly element to the band due mainly to Dans vocals in guitar playing and Jack White has more of a dirty, animalistic, punk vibe. Both bands have exceptions to these descriptions obviously. I lean towards the Keys for my love of Soul/RnB stuff but I love Jack Whites vibe as well.

Personally I think their potential next album will be their most experimental, a bit more like The Arcs. I know a lot of fans want their garage roots back but looking at what dan is doing and what pat is producing it seems they’ve outgrown that. Bit of a hot take: their next album will be their best album

School of Rock featured one of their songs, I remember I was 12 when this movie was released. It was an instant (and still current) favorite and it changed my entire musical landscape. I was so into Thickfreakness and Rubber Factory and remember downloading and listening to these albums from parent directories, which I'd spend HOURS doing in the 2000s. They represent such a huge transitional point in my adolescent life and I appreciate everything they've done.

When you open a new tab, an ad appears on the tab, you don’t need to click on anything or ‘wait to skip’ it just loads and goes away once you go to a new webpage. The ad revenue is donated to charity with some going towards operating costs.

Was huge into these guys back in the thickfreakness and Rubber Factory days. Not really a fan of their later efforts personally but it was pretty wild and cool to see them get that money after bringing me a lot of joy way back when.

We NEED rock n roll again. The terrible stuff on the radio is killing my soul.

Brian Ugh. There’s rock and roll EVERYWHERE. Why would waste your time on the radio anyway? Scour Bandcamp, streaming services and the underground to find your own “next Black Keys.” I’m sure what you find will likely be better than the mediocre band featured in this video.

Brian why does it matter if rock is in the “mainstream?” Does the music not have it’s own inherent value (and its value to you) without the outside validation of the masses? Let them eat Taylor Swift and we’ll fill the intimate rock clubs of America’s best cities with joyful delirium from people who actually give a shit.

Woo! I found the edgy teenagers who think they have superior music taste because they listen to rock music.

I do not consider The Black Keys licensing their music as selling out. I see it as a bonus 30 second clip of Black Keys magic when I least expected to hear it.

Yeah, I mean it’s not like The Rolling Stones or The Beatles recorded there or anything (among tons and tons of other huge artists). Or that the Muscle Shoals studio is named in Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Sweet Home Alabama” (one of the biggest songs of all time). A real hole in the wall.
