Europe prays for Erdogan's downfall. In so doing, it is giving the Turks the biggest reason why they should make their own minds up if they want to keep the independence for which their country has struggled for so long argues David Hearst

One correction, while Erdogan runs the country & runs for the elections at the same time, he doesn’t sleep. And as he said, not all media are siding with him. There are lots of channels in Turkey who are lying about him & he is disadvantaged as people watch KZbin to get news. The opponent sleeps well. He has nothing to worry. And he is the most corrupted guy i’ve ever seen. They’ve done so many provocative things to put themselves in jail to represent themselves as victims

What hypocracy, no one claims that elections in turkey are forged, but the media is controlled by akp, this is a fact. The jeduciary is under an akp party turkey is on the road to be home a one party state, no democracy can survive in such conditions and intime they will have enough control to forge elections, Iran has elections and its not a democracy.

Turkiye has been waiting for more than 30 years to be accepted into the EU. At some point the Turks understood that the "garden" doesn´t want them and they joined the BRICS. Of course the West is now furious and want to get rid of Erdogan. And despite me formerly not being a fan of Erdogan; now I wish him all the luck. He took the right steps to correct past mistakes and strengthen the economy with partners which won´t be looking down on him.

He was asking West for the defense system for years, they didn't provide turkiye with one, what's wrong in looking for other options like Russian s400. It can be true but in Turkey you can't do anything. You can't buy meat, you can't do hobbies. Why? Because Erdoğan is putting %300 taxes on literally everything. Where does that money go? In Erdoğan's pocket. The minimum wage in Turkey is just 329 dollars. You can say "But everyone earns more than minimum wage." No, it doesn't work like that in Turkey. Half of the population that works earns minimum wage. Yes Turkey can look good from other countries but it is not good for turks.

Yeah, and this sort of threatens their image as the bastion of social liberalism, which they aspire the whole of Europe to be. And Europe always talks down to America, and while there are many legitimate issues of the United States, the US is actually ideologically different from Europe. America is based upon the ideals of classical liberalism (where rights and freedoms are fundamental) and based its legal system on common law. Why does this have anything to do with Turkey and Erdogan? It's because Europeans have managed to conflate Euro flavor of liberalism as the ultimate symbol of being advanced and civilized, and if they don't like even America taking a different path (even liberal Americans are mostly too "right" for Europe, and they are part of "the West"), they definitely won't like it if Turkiye decides to be carve its own way of doing things. I do think it is as simple as that.

I don’t think they frankly care about his religiosity. The West has worked with fundamentalist and the ultra-religious plenty of times. Common interests can often trump ideological beliefs. The issue is that Erdogan plays both sides yet is entangled in Western alliances and institutions. If Erdogan wants to pursue a separate foreign policy, that’d be fine, but we can see in situations like Sweden’s NATO ascension, that Turkey is happy to leverage its ties to the West to harm Western interests while also distancing itself from the West. If Turkey does not wish to be part of Europe it shouldn’t then try to sabotage Europe.

The reason of west don't like Erdogan is that Erdogan always attack to west. He's speech very aggressive at 2000-2015. But when he realized he should be good with west he doing friendly relationship. He said "economy is good, I am economist" but there is no truth. He tried to say lies at every second time. That's why many Turkish people know how he making fun of Turkish people. Otherwise, of course Erdogan did good jobs but that's now enough. While he has good things to do, he also has bad things. He brought Syrians and Afghans to Turkey. A few years later, Syrians and Afghans will say that they should have a voice in Turkey. Then what will the Turkish people do? Erdogan has already said many times in the media that he does not welcome the concept of "Turkishism" and that such a thing should not happen. Do you want to Arabize the Turks together with Syrians and Afghans? No, it is against atatürk's policy.

Following the 1994 local elections, Erdoğan was elected mayor of Istanbul as the candidate of the Islamist Welfare Party. He was later stripped of his position, banned from political office, and imprisoned for four months for inciting religious hatred, due to his recitation of a poem by Ziya Gökalp. There’s no such thing as total freedom even when Turkey was under pro secular/ west rule. The west doesn’t really care who rule Turkey..as long as the country bend to their will.

Unfortunately NATO is predominantly European Caucasian they haven't been very welcoming to other nations joining them, and making excuses for accepting countries into there circle. With this sad result we have a war in Ukraine, we have a waiting list that has been endless for countries to join. And BRICS are obviously friendlier players looking for a more diverse cultural sustainable reality. Where there partners are leaders of foreign countries which makes it way more approachable for others to join. It's like children in the playgrounds refusing each other to join there groups, in the end the kids that where rejected grow to much greater people than those that tried to reject or put them on hold. It's basic physical laws of the Universe. What goes around comes back around. If you weren't very kind in the past to other nations, well you will have to also learn some lessons. We don't even have to mention some of the past events in regards to oppression, wars, slavery etc. Keep your doors open for those in need. You will see how they help you grow.
