Great work Ron! As for wire nuts in the panel, I hate the right angles they make on the wire. I started using straight lever nuts so they are butt spliced and you’re basically just extending the wire. I’ll normally cut it up high and then put the lever nut on and run whatever length from the lever nut down to the neutral bus. They’re about $1 a piece but ⚡️fast.

@lakorai22 ай бұрын
You can, but under most circumstances that would be not required. If you are running a very long run you might want to do 10awg to minimize voltage drops. Certain dedicated circuits on long runs (like day a dedicated air conditioner, home theater application etc) can benefit from this. This also provides additional safety for applications that have constant high amp draw.

Ron, when you landed the neutral wire. You again covered up the top of the neutral bus bar?? If you ever had to take those wires out how you going to do that??, all you have to do is run the wire towards the top of the panel then curl the wire and enter the main neutral lug from the top??. And of course I don't know why you don't invert the panel to begin with, I don't care if you put the generator in lock in, it'll still work with the panel inverted.
@electricianron_New_Jersey2 ай бұрын
What are you taking the circuits out for? For what reason would you ever do that?
@paulcoulston19872 ай бұрын
One example would be the customer does kitchen renovation, that neutral might be one of the kitchen countertops circuits, now you need to arc/GFCI protect that circuit. When I do panel upgrades with a plug neutral panel I try to put each neutral on the lug next to breaker it matches so I can convert it from standard breaker to dual function.

I don't think that I done more then two 150 amp services during my 50 years as a sparky. The only difference in price is less then $10 for larger 4/0 SEU cable. Labor was same length of time so I always talked customers to spend a few dollars more on a 200 amp service. Was easier for me because I only had to stock boxes of 100 & 200 amp service cable straps, hubs & connectors.

@@JohnThomas-lq5qp one of my concerns now with the meter/ mains is the hub. There’s two types of hubs both 2”.
@JohnThomas-lq5qp2 ай бұрын
@@electricianron_New_Jersey Never came across that. It has to be 30 years since I did my second & last 150 amp service but thought for that it was a 11/2" hub. Anybody talking about how much more a 100 & 200 amp services are going to cost once you have the outdoor disconnects ?. I'm taking a guess could be over $700 for a 200 amp service. Bet it would not cost smart meter manufacturers more then $40 to install a lever to open up the contacts that the utility company uses to kill power for customers who miss a few months paying them. I was helping a coworker replace his two gang meter socket and we did not have power off smart meters more then 30 minutes & a PECO truck drive up checking it out. He was doing it on his own home & has a license but did it without a permit or notifying PECO. I did hundreds of services by myself and all but a few took more then one day. Now to do a 200 amp service with and outdoor disconnect would be hard to get them done in a day by yourself. I had a few part time helpers but too many times they were late, had to go home early, did not want to work a few long weekends etc

I thought that Noalox wasn't required with modern panels using aluminum conductors? Or are you just a belt and suspenders kind of guy?
@JohnThomas-lq5qp2 ай бұрын
Have read several times that all aluminum conductors must be made with think it's type A8000 aluminum that does not require anti oxide paste but better to use it especially in damp areas. Numerous times I have found the screws on flimsy 100 amp circuit breakers seized up and had halve of the sloot break off. I remove the screws and apply a thin layer of paste on threads and have a dedicated wire brush for pushing paste deep into strands then tighten, shake the wire and use a torque driver to tighten screws.

Why do we hate MOST cable company: (like the work done at this customers house.) 1. cable company pay installers by the job not by the hour. Thus forcing the installer to take shortcuts to make a viable wage. 2. Poor company training and oversight, a fix would be for municipality to inspection installations, i.e. permits.
