I wish they could find that missing deleted scene I saw in the first broadcast on tv of the first film. It shows Arnold leaving grandma’s house and walking up the hill to the road where he hears a motorcycle off in the distance. The rider comes around the corner and Arnold knocks him off his bike leaving him hurt very badly. He gets on the bike and leaves. The next scene is him arriving at the motel. I want to see that scene again. It was only aired once, unfortunately.

@@DialloMoore503 I saw it on the tv broadcast of it. It’s like an extended version of it, much like Superman the movie tv cut when it came out. There is a scene that was shot, and for whatever reason, never made it to the deleted scenes. I remember him leaving the cabin and walking up a hill. He hears a motorcycle approaching, the next scene is the motorcycle rider coming around the corner and the T-800 basically clotheslined him and the guy is really badly hurt. The man is wearing a red leather jacket and pants on a red motorcycle. The T-800 drives off with his bike. I never saw that scene again, but it was filmed and shown on tv when it first aired. I would love to see it again. I think the motorcycle rider wasn’t a very convincing actor, or maybe the practical effects of the scene weren’t very good and James Cameron permanently deleted or destroyed that scene or it’s just lost somewhere, I don’t know.

I just watched them back to back and i agree, although when i was younger i liked T2 way more. This time watching T2 though, i kept having thoughts of how it doesn't make sense whatsoever. Reese says in the original that the time displacers were completely destroyed after he went through, so how could they send through anyone else? Also, the T1000 is super cool....and makes 0 logical sense. There is nothing biological to it at all so how would it go through the time machine? Also, how does it have sentience and the ability to speak when it is made purely of metal? Almost completely ruined the movie for me.

I love how Terminator 2 is not just a sequel but an antithesis. In the first movie, the theme is clear: Technology is hostile. It starts with small stuff. Answer machines that steal time, a walkman prevents Ginger from becoming aware of an imminent danger and the Terminator using all kids of technologies to his advantage, from hotwiring a car to all kinds of weapons. The overall tone os dark and paranoid. The score really solidifies that. But somewhere on the course, James Cameron really made peace with technology. And it went on to show. He pushed technology to its limits, no matter if its new camera technology or an effing submarine... and that shift in theme made Terminator 2 not just a lame sequel but really a consequent progression of the story that in itself had matured and became something bigger. Epic and legendary.

Whether it looks passable or not honestly barely matters. The fact is that the transfer would be objectively better if it hadn't been messed with with AI sharpening, enhancements and DNR. It is not difficult to simply NOT run it through the AI process... In any case, like Aliens, this was simply just the old 2k transfer from the 2014 blu-ray being upscaled. Lazy, pointless and possibly destructive to the whole physical media and restoration industry. Guys gotta stop accepting slop and open your eyes to the real damage this is doing.

For its release on Ultra HD, it appears Lightstorm and Park Road Post have gone back to the film’s 2013 4K scan (from which the Lowry Digital 2013 Fox/MGM Blu-ray was created) and digitally-remastered the image under the supervision of Cameron and Geoff Burdick. This appears to be a significant refinement of Park Road’s AI “re-visualization” process (to borrow a term coined by former Bits contributor and long-time film restoration expert Robert A. Harris), which was employed on Cameron’s previous films in 4K. Image detail has definitely been enhanced, but with a somewhat lighter touch. Nothing like the heavy-handed and waxy scrubbing that was so obvious on T2 or True Lies is apparent here. Skin, facial features, costume textures, wood-all of it appears more natural, at least on first glance. And surprise-there’s grain! Based on reports from early theatrical screenings, I didn’t expect to see any, which suggests the grain has been added back in digitally. Nevertheless, it’s organic looking-never static-and it generally appears at levels appropriate to photochemical films of this vintage (and this film in particular). What’s more, the occasional speck of dust on the negative has been left in, particularly in optically-printed titles and effects shots. Take a look at Chapter 2, around the lettering when the text “Los Angeles 1984 1:52 a.m.” appears. Then in Chapter 4, look at the road on the right side as the police car passes-there are definitely little flecks that were clearly on the negative and they’ve been left in. I went back to the 2013 Blu-ray, and they’re visible there too-except now they’re far more subtle (which suggests Lightstorm did indeed go back to the 2012 4K scan, rather than simply upsampling the Blu-ray master).

I also noticed the grid pattern on the police station’s frosted doors for the first time so there is legit detail to be found here. 2) the grain is very convincing, but I would be surprised if it were the original grain. 3) the disc really seems to struggle to present the grain structure without artifacts. This is a pixel peeping complaint, but I noticed. 4) for whatever reason I did not find the color, particularly pleasing, personally. I’d love to know what others thought about this.

Now hopefully in the future we can get T2 revisited for 4K.

On the cinema release for this 40th anniversary, James Cameron did an intro to the film. He said he wasn't heavily involved in the transfer but he did set his goals for it and he did approve it. He also talked about how the film they used was brand new and meant they could work in low light (hence a lot of its grain) but he wanted the restoration to remove a lot of the excess grain without taking away from the characteristics of the film. I think it does a shockingly good job compared to T2. Just shows what a few years of technology and modern AI can do. The irony.

So relieved and happy we finnlay got a worthy transfer for the first one. It's my personal favorite. The gritty, 80s neon dripped, scifi horror slasher vibe can't be topped. T2 is fantastic but it's more a like a family adventure compared to the terminator imo. But it's shocking that not one new extra has been added considering the legacy of this film and it's time of release in this day and age.

Hello Ken! I'm hearing online that T1 is a nice and beautiful ttransfer on this 4K UHD! I'm stoked for it now and how it looks. I really wish ARROW would pick up T2 !! lol I ordered the standard slipcover version. I have a very expensive steelbook edition with a slipcase already for T1. Thank you for the review!

Is there a good 4k UHD Terminator copy out there? I got the Italian (theatrical cut) and it seemed that it wasn't remastered for 4k
@ULTRAWIDE.Ай бұрын
I wonder if they just went off the remastered blu ray transfer. That still looks really good. Looking forward to seeing this when it arrives.

Question from a newbie: can you play a 4k film on a regular DVD player or Blu Ray player or do you need a 4k player?
@midlevelmediaАй бұрын
You need a 4K player. If you have an Xbox One Series S or PS5 you can play them on there as well.

Nice I cant wait to get the Terminator in 4k. T2 Has always been my favorite with Terminator 1984 second but I too watch the original more anymore. But my new favorite is Dark Fate defiantly top 3 for me!

I wish James Cameron would have done a commentary for this. Hes done commentaries for most of his other movies. You would think he would have wanted to do one for this because this is the movie that put him on the map as a director.

I’m not a huge fan of the third, but I would definitely be down for a 4K edition of it. Haven’t watched since it released in 2003.

Dude I don’t care what anyone says about Arnold acting career. He’s absolutely nailed the Terminator role to a T. He’s performance was Oscar winning. There is no other role he ever did the came remotely close to how well he played the the Terminator. This was Arnold’s role hands down!!!

Uk based. Got the 4k steelbook lets be honest with out the 1st there cannot be the second. So the 1st is always the best for me. Plus the terminator (arnie) actually kills in this movie something he doesn’t do in the 2nd. That being said waited ages for this release and feel just grateful for the 4k regardless of the quality and of course in the uk we have silly licensing laws at times which is why we can’t get the abyss (we won’t cut the rat drowning scene)

Whenever they come up with a version that has entirely new camera angles added in, I'll buy that. How far off is that technology? I'll also buy a new one when it's made into a 3D print of the film.

How you do a proper 4K transfer? Watch Born On The 4th Of July. How to screw up a classic movie on 4K? Ask Cameron!

I tried the 2.0 track a couple times and did not like it at all. It was flat and did not fill the room Where the surround mix is robust. Where you have The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth 4K with 2.0 tracks that are just as good as the Atmos tracks.

I was fortunate enough to see the 4K release this summer at the Independent Picture House in Charlotte, NC, and it was fantastic! We’ve got a great transfer here and cinephiles should pick this up! I can’t wait to get my pre-order 😊

The much talked about new extra on the ‘Titanic’ release was actually an episode of some show that looked at whether there was enough room for Jack on that piece of wood that Rose lied on to save her life. Cameron was involved in that episode, but it’s hardly a new feature filmed just for the 4K release.

It's not even hard to do a GOOD 4k transfer just clean the negative and scan it, Job done! ...don't change anything, don''t run a DNR filter over it, don't mess with the color grading and make everything all green, preserve the original work and present it in it's best state possible. It takes LESS work to do it properly than it does to ruin it but directors have some compulsion to keep directing their old films.
@RyanWard1987Ай бұрын
10000% this! Why must Cameron insist on “going around the block to cross the street”? His “fixes” are more work/money/trouble than they’re worth, and it’s a worse result than the industry standard! While I personally rank this Cameron transfer somewhere between Abyss/Avatar and Titanic, it is still very obviously a meddled-with 2K DI upscale with Park Road Post’s AI upscaling. They either added grain back in, or DNR’d way less of it this time, so that’s good, but see… even though it was meddled with less than/better than True Lies/Aliens, at the end of the day, it’s *still meddled with* nonetheless 😅🤷🏻♂️
@mv28Ай бұрын
Shows you may not know too much about the process if you are advising them to not mess with the color grading. If a negative is being rescanned, it *needs* to be regraded, or it would look like a behind-the-scenes home video.
@cairnex44739 күн бұрын
@@mv28 I said don't MESS WITH the color grading... meaning keep it as true to the original presentation as possible.

In my honest opinion as someone who loves this film and is a stickler for film transfers and audio quality ……… Yeah they got it right . Even with the Ai upscale as is expected with Cameron’s transfers , this transfer is brilliant and the biggest plus is the updated DTS HD MA 2.0 MONO ! Track . Excellent release and the best of his recent 4K remasters

Just finished watching and omgosh!!! I can't believe how amazing this film looks on 4K!!! I watched it on theaters and it didn't looked that good! The transfer is flabbergasting compared with some other movies from the same era released on 4K. And I agree, the first film was way better storyline wise than T2, which is more an spectacle than anything else. Give us more remasters like this Warner Brothers!!!

Your experience of the films is exactly the same as mine. Saw T2 every weekend for about a year. No joke, I know the whole script by heart! I lived in Dubai back then and T1 was banned so didn't see it for a while. I agree that with time the first film is probably better all things considered.
