This movie was beast. The lines and acting could've used a bit more fine tuning, but this film was still beast. My fav part is where Kong was accidentally turned into a Kaiju version of Scorpion. The 2014 Godzilla was a 6/10 film that had the potential to be a 9/10 film but fell short due to baffling creative decisions like killing off Cranston and not showing the monster fights properly
@CaptToilet7 жыл бұрын
I would give the 2014 movie a 7 - 7.5. It was good but I can't ignore the issues. Biggest issues are the human development and the cut aways. Cranston dying so early is just fanboys crying because they saw him in Breaking Bad.
@SolarDragon0077 жыл бұрын
Cranston was the most interesting character in the film and he's hardly in it. The rest of the film we have to follow stoic Aaron Taylor Johnson as the most boring, generic soldier trying to get home to his family I've ever seen on film. Ken Watanabe could have been interesting, but he gets hardly anything to do aside from look worried.
@StonedGremlinProductions7 жыл бұрын
Completely agree with you guys, except that Cranston dying so early wasn't fanboys crying because of Breaking Bad. It was because he was the most interesting character in the movie, and the trailers for the film falsely advertised him as the actual star of the film and barely showed Aaron Taylor Johnson. Granted, I understand why the trailers did that, because Johnson wasn't very good in the film, but there's legit reasons people didn't like Cranston being killed.
@SolarDragon0077 жыл бұрын
Stoned Gremlin Productions THANK YOU
@blueblue78517 жыл бұрын
@Stoned Gremlin Productions: It feels like Im the only one who was impressed by Cranston getting killed. Yes he was a great character, very charismatic and interesting, which is why its such a big impact when he dies. Its a message. That in this world of giant monsters, no one has plot armor. Just because your the most interesting character, doesnt mean you cant die. Anyone can be trampled below these huge beasts. When Cranston died, you felt his death. It had meaning BECAUSE he was interesting. He wasnt some pointless red shirt that you couldnt give two shits about if he died. You cared about him. His death gave the movie gravitas. I also feel Johnson is underrated in the film. He plays a soldier. You know, a warrior who when he is in battle is programmed to desensitize himself to his environment, so he can get his job done. Unlike his father, hes practical, and holds him emotions in check, allowing him to accomplish things his father could not. Hes uncharismatic because he is a soldier, they are supposed to be. Hes just an average guy. Which to me, grounds the movie even more in reality. (As real as a movie about giant monsters can be anyway)
@raynwolfsbane20847 жыл бұрын
This was a fantastic monster movie. I don't get all the hate the human cast. It was stronger than the human cast in Godzilla.
@jliller7 жыл бұрын
My only problem with the human cast was Hiddleston's character being kind of wasted. He seems like a guy with an interesting backstory, but they never really went anywhere with it or even teased it beyond the story of his dad in WW2 which was just a transition into a Sam Jackson scene.

SpriteRyu The sad thing is that the gay character is the villain's cowardly henchman who's only there for comic relief, so it's not like he's going to be portrayed in a positive light (unless the writers make him have a change of heart near the end).
@RedRyuSmash7 жыл бұрын
I don't necessarily disagree with that, but honestly even in the original he comes off as closeted gay for Gaston. It's not a positive depiction of being gay but, ehh so? What I find worse is people being offended that they said he was gay, it can fit given with what the character was originally and really doesn't offend me. He's not in a positive light, bit he's not exactly a good person given what he did in the original. Depending how they do it, it could be offensive. I doubt Disney would dig deep into trying something like that.
@Tareltonlives7 жыл бұрын
The only change they make for Lefeau's character is making him turn good in the end. Like most of the dumb things in that movie, it's from the Broadway musical.

@jliller7 жыл бұрын
The deaths are not graphic, at least not by modern Hollywood standards. Guys ares squashed, but we don't see the aftermath. Even the guy who was ripped apart by the sawfish-pterodactyls is showing in silhouette. A guy is on fire, but we don't really see him. The only gory moment is the skull being vomited up.

40:51 - I hope that was a joke, because Hunchback of Notre Dame was written by Victor Hugo, not Alexandre Dumas. And technically, at least in the Disney version, is there any bestiality involved, since Belle is aware that the Beast was once a human prince that had been cursed & turned into a beast. And yeah, Lefou was probably always meant to be gay, just ambiguously, not overtly. But whatever.

Godzilla vs. Cthulu. Seaside towns begin being infected with some sort of waterborne parasite that turns people into fish monsters. The military comes to deal with it. Then larger and larger monsters begin flooding from the sea. The military becomes overwhelmed, creating barriers against the tide. Then the horror of horrors rises from the deep. Cthulu surfaces miles from shore and makes his way toward the west coast. Godzilla then surfaces near Alaska and travels along, every so often crushing and destroying tentacle rape cosplayer monsters until he and Cthulu throwdown. Golden.

I really have to agree here. I watched Godzilla yesterday and saw Kong today, Godzilla is an ok film, but it suffers one flaw with viewing on home media. The screen is too fucking dark during the action scenes that you can't make anything out practically, especially the damn train bridge scene in the dark. I'm not sure if the big screen has that problem, but if you're going to do night shoots and trying to keep the Kaiju shadowed or some BS for pacing and suspense at least make your principals lighted enough that you can see the fucking thing. Kong really improved on the night scenes. It was not so dark you couldn't see what the hell was going on, and the cast of characters were royally fun to watch. I don't mind Aaron Taylor Johnson's performance, he's a bit bland, but at least he's there. My main problem is they don't emote very well with his character, his fucking dad dies and he's just standing there like a mannequin, seriously they should have re-cast that guy after they saw the dailies on the first day because he sucked as a character holding the movie/attention perspective. And even with his shitty performance I can still sit there and watch the movie, I can't see half the shit because of the weird visual style, but I can still enjoy it. God when he rushes on the monorail to help the kid he doesn't even emote that well. And nobody else in that scene even gives a fuck about the kid... really piss poor direction there, you need more emotion and concern from people even in the background during scenes like that. The girl on the beach who first sees the giant wave from the big G stepping out of the ocean emoted better than the main character. But enough about that, Kong really impressed me and I hope they carry this style forward with any future films in this universe, be it Mothra, Rodan, Godzilla 2 or Kong vs. Godzilla.

You sound like you really want to make a giant monster/Vietnam movie, Brad. Any chance you'll make one of either or both genres in the future?

"Hunchback of Notre-Dame" was written by Victor Hugo. Alexandre Dumas wrote "The Three Musketeers".

Great review, but ACTUAL LEE Victor Hugo wrote Hunchback of Notre Dame, not Alexandre Dumas :)
