For a much better and darker cat movie, I recommend Felidae. It's a German animated murder-mystery-horror movie. And has swearing, gore, and sex. And yes, the characters are all cats. I'm still waiting for Brad to do a Snob episode on it.

Yeah, I think the book is even better than the movie, and it's one of my favourites _ever_ so it's a shame that Akif Pirincci is now almost like a fucking Nazi. _Felidae_ doesn't read as being remotely prejudiced or pushing a political agenda, so I'm not sure when Pririncci went off the rails.

I work at a movie theater, and a woman came up to me today and actually yelled at me over us not getting this. (Because apparently she drove from the other big theater in the county and they didn't get it either) She then rolled her eyes and left after she asked what new movies we had this week and I responded "Suicide Squad." LADY! You have NO RIGHT to roll your eyes at another film if you came into a movie theater and unironically asked for a ticket to "Nine-Fucking-Lives"!

Maybe when the son said 'first and last jump' he meant that because his father no longer was in charge of the building, this jump was going to be his only chance while the family still had ties to it. I agree with Brad on it; if he were planning on killing himself 100% he would not have been wearing a parachute and giving the connection between Spacey and the building, the final jump was just his final chance to do a stunt like this before he could have been barred from doing so. It makes you realize how badly the line was given. I know its sort of a heavy subject but if they wanted to imply the kid was going to kill himself, they would have been more vague on the jump or even more so, have Spacey KNOW he didn't mean he was going to off himself but rather Spacey goes to see his son actually base-jump but an accident happens where his son nearly is unable to pull the cord to the chute and Spacey does the sacrifice by helping him open it?

TheDreReichDude Famed critic Jonathan Rosenbaum and the late Jacques Rivette were huge fans of the film, and it's no secret that Paul Verhoeven is just as much of a satirist as he is a filmmaker, for better or for worse. I haven't seen it myself but I have friends that love it.

TheDreReichDude Come to think of it I don't think I've seen any Verhoeven film. I should probably get on that. Rivette's awesome, he was one of the big French New Wave directors along with Godard and Truffaut, but his style (from what I've seen) is much more carefree and silly than theirs.

That's the problem with making a parody or deconstruction. You have to be able to make it clear that you're doing so without explicitly saying it. Otherwise you end up in a situation where you're basically playing everything straight and going "lol, parody!". It's like a game that claims to deconstruct violence by just being violent and having nothing to say about it.

I enjoy Midnight Screenings quite a bit, but I wish you guys would explain the plot of movies better. What is Spacey's character's job? What about Consuelos'? Or Walken's? When/why does he get turned into a cat? Why does he get turned back? The answers to some of these questions might be scattered around the 43 minutes of video, but the premise is never concisely stated. I usually listen to/watch the MS videos in the background, but I often feel very lost, especially since you guys like to focus on very specific moments in the story. I know, it's a stupid movie and I can just look all this stuff up, but it'd be nice to bring us up to speed.

To answer your question Big Man on Campus was produced by Vestron Pictures who went bakrupt around 1989 after the release of Little Monsters and many of their porjects were either picked up for Turnaround like the Kathyrn Bigelow directed thriller Blue Steel with Jamie Lee Curtis and Ron Silver which was released by MGM, and others like Hider in the House were picked up by lower tier home video distributors. From what I could find Big Man on Campus was given a very limited theatrical engagement by American Cinematheque sometime in march of 1989 then released on VHS by Live Entertainment.

You guys are talking about a time capsule theatre from the 2000s. Meanwhile my hometown's only theatre still has glitter ceiling and carpet from the 70's. And arcade games that have been there as long as I can remember. They recently took out the shell phone booth which was a little sad. But no one really uses pay phones anymore. Even theatres that don't have to change because they have a monopoly.

I got the trailer for this in front of Finding Dory. I was nine years old and even then I knew what I was seeing was horrible.

You know a movie's bad when all I can think about when watching the video is. "Where the hell are they that there's a bunch of giant smokestacks in the background?"

I thought it was strange you guys were at the east theater. I never see the power plant in your backdrop. I also never went to that particular AMC as it was on the opposite end of Springfield from me.

I work at a movie theatre and yesterday we had premiers for this and suicide squad. This had one theatre with only 7 people. we had 3 auditoriums of suicide squad all sold out. Plus the largest Imax theatre in arizona sold out with suicide squad.

That was indeed Lil Bub in the movie.! On that note, Frank Welker didn't do any of the cat sounds...

The cat of the movie is a siberian, a hypoallergenic type of cat, Barry Sonnenfeld is allergic to cats and apparently directed this movie just to prove that he could. Also probably money. I feel that I know more about "9 Lives" than I should.
