Hugo said nothing to suggest the Doom Slayer actually lost his power. He basically said the Doom Slayer just shut down after killing Davoth because he no longer had a purpose. Shutting down is not the same as losing power. He's still just as powerful, he's just asleep since he no longer has a purpose.

I can reason out why he may have lost his powers. The Dark Lord was revealed to be the True Father all along and the creator of all things, including the Maykrs. We've seen that the Doomslayer was imbued with a sort of "Maykr" energy in the divinity machine which literally made him a perfect being. As Vega have stated, and as you've killed the Dark Lord (AKA The TRUE Father) he says "By His hand, all things were made... Even you..." Caused the Doomslayer to lose his powers of what made him of who he is, the "Hell walker", The Doomslayer, because his powers was of Maykr, which were OF The Father. If he died, he should've been erased just like all the other demons. He didn't, because he was and is now an ordinary human, still buried in the tomb because he has proven to be a true slayer.

Just because he collapsed doesn't mean he lost his power. It just means he essentially shut down since he no longer has a purpose. The way he looked at his arms though before he collapsed definitely shows that he was unsure of what was happening, as if his powers and energy were being drained. It wasn't a look of exhaustion or anything. Besides, even if he doesn't have his powers anymore, it still doesn't change the fact that he'll still kick ass the next time he's resurrected.

@@maltardraco9555 Quake 1 has four sequels - Scourge of Armagon, Dissolution of Eternity, Dimension of the Past, and Dimension of the Machine. In terms of canonicity, the latter two are somewhat ambiguous, but SoA and DoE are definitely direct follow-ups to the original game. Of course, they could always make them all non-canon in the same way that TNT Evilution and The Plutonia Experiment were made non-canon, but I see no reason to do that instead of just doing a full reboot.

I disagree on the slayer being an antihero, “yes I’m disagreeing with the games creator” But doomguy has always come across as 100% lawful good He would NEVER harm an innocent, and his hatred for the demons is far from his only motivation The punisher is different from the slayer because the punisher just actually enjoyed killing, but he happens to on,y target objectively bad people But the slayer does not kill for the sake of it, he does not kill for enjoyment, To some extent I think he is similar to the punisher in that he doesn’t know who he is if he’s not on a battle,field, he’d been in a war for so long that it’s all he knows, although he still finds time to have hobbies, given his toy collecting, his collection of fine literature, his gaming PC, etc, it’s clear he CAN a find downtime But that’s not why he fights It’s was ALWYAS about protecting the innocent, revenge for daisy and his family is certain,y a factor, but above all else, the slayer fights to make sure nobody has to suffer the way he dies So I guess I truly do agree with Hugo, he is a protector at his core, he will fight so we don’t have to

We (the people playing the game) know that the Slayer wouldn’t harm an innocent soul, but there are some in the world of Doom that don’t. That’s why they sealed him. It might be for the best. The slayer being who he is. There's a lot of things that can potentially go wrong. Especially in the event that centuries, millenniums or even eons go by before the demons return. He's got no target for his unyielding rage anymore, if he doesn't snap and start killing people, he could get so absorbed in his hobbies and anything else that would be going on in his life at that point that he (much like a human) may become complacent and lazy by the time the demons rear their heads again.

I wouldn't call it "multi-verse" per se, as only one person exists at a time, it's more like neighboring universes that are completely separate from the others. No two exact people exists, unlike multi-verse where there are multiple versions of everybody in them. Imagine a giant wall separating countries from one another. it's kind of like that. It's actually closer to the old book series than anything Marvel has done. Demons are corrupted aliens from a different neighboring universe.

What I really enjoy about the slayer is that he is kinda inevitable. Regardless of how long it will take, it will come to pass that he eventually succeeds. He isn’t a living tribunal/one above all type of inevitable where he can snap his fingers a do as he pleases ( I really do wish in lore he kinda has the same power level but doesn’t know it yet/ or refuses to use it) he is the type of character where it sheer raw power and willpower that makes him inevitable. No matter the obstacle he WILL succeed without using boring hack abilities like snapping fingers and poof everything gone. Maybe once dooms story literally ends and has succeeded by sheer strength and power he has such power or uses such power. I think he deserves it for how bad ass the man is ,not only that I think DOOM as a franchise deserves it. But regardless of what I think , doom is in safe hands with Hugo Martin and Marty Stratton and the rest of the team. Much respect ✊

idea: prequel doom 2016. A game that explores his rise in the sentinel ranks, the attack on that sentinel city, how him and the sentinels found the argent generator, the war between sentinels and loyalists to the Khan Maykr, the betrayal in hell by the priests, and finally his capture and containment (2016 picks up a few years later when Sammy opens the tomb). it would be less action based and HELLA cutscenes, but I can imagine it would still be pretty dope

I like how he doesn't outright deny that there's more than one Doomguy in the multiverse because I've always enjoyed that the way people trying to figure out the games' places in the timeline is that DOOM 3 actually takes place just soon before DOOM (2016), but the guy you play as is THIS universe's Doomguy who doesn't have the powers that our main Doomguy has. And you can even find the stone tablets that depict the main Doomguy, plus we possibly see Doomguy's sarcophagus in DOOM 3.

Seeing the enthusiasm of the game director to talk about the story and his restraint in knowing he cannot give the full story shows me just a bit of how much care and time and effort was put into making this game and ensuring it fit their vision. Great interview and great video. I really liked Hugo’s Star Wars analogies. The only thing I will say on that is I hope that they never have the Slayer turn to the Darkside so to speak. I’ve always viewed him as an incorruptible being and hope he remains so.

Quite the opposite; Hugo confirmed, even if vaguely, during a stream that there is a One True God in the Doom universe, and that Davoth may have been Lucifer, the Prince of Lies. The Father is a creation of Davoth, having later usurped the throne from Davoth. The potential for plot with this is pretty intense.

I think an important thing to also point out in this discussion is that, we have to remember that TAG2 is literally supposed to be the end of the Slayer's story. This could heavily imply that he did on fact lose his powers, which would in turn revert him back to just being the Doomguy (before his powers). And there wouldn't be anything wrong with that. Before 2016, he was still kicking lots of demons ass as just a normal person, and even if his powers are gone, he's still fucking ripped as hell, so he could continue to easily glory kill some demons too. His powers wouldn't change who he is, it just simply wouldn't allow him to really heal from the blood of the demons anymore.

Hugo will focus 100% on the Slayer's story in the next game, but the fact that he mentions that Commander Valen has a whole new side to tell is intriguing. I wonder if that will take form in a game, or comic etc. It could be post launch dlc for the next game. Damn exciting stuff.

I feel like even though he lost his power, it is temporary, or maybe he did lose it, but I feel that since they sealed him, that his immortality from the devinity machine is still present if nothing else, and possibly due to that they are afraid he will gain more power after this and possibly aim for the Makers next to stop the loop.
