Nowadays DOS's features are usually found via Command Prompt in your operating system of choice or running stuff through DOSBox, a dos emulator.

_Room_ does indeed run in stark contrast to the themes of _Doom;_ in _Doom,_ you are an externally destructive force, eradicating the demons from existence. In _Room,_ the demons have won, and you are a _self-destructive_ force, pointing the gun back at yourself. I've been down both roads in life, happy to report I'm on the DOOM road currently and unlikely to take the Room paradigm again because I managed to determine what set me down a self-destructive road in the first place: _Repeated failure to set things in order, and panicking at the last minute as a result._ As it turns out, putting things off is a recipe for disaster. As you said at 20:27, your greatest enemy in life is you, and only YOU can break an ongoing cycle of self-defeat. I did it by learning how to be organized, plan ahead, jot down important dates, track my habits and change how I think from "How am I ever going to get this done?!" to "What's the first thing I need to do? Okay, done! What's next? KEEP 'EM COMIN'!" After a couple days to weeks of developing these habits, I no longer have the remotest urge to return to the Room mindset, because I'm in a perpetual state of having purpose-of having demons to kill. The depression associated with feeling stressed out by looming deadlines and mountains of work is gone, because I _already_ killed the majority of the horde.

Seeing someone not know what armor does is really funny to me for some reason. I've been watching Decino so long it feels pretty second nature. For future reference, for moments like at 17:30, you would have lived. Armor acts by absorbing a fraction of the damage instead of your health. There's armor (green armor) and super armor (blue armor). If you have green armor, 1/3 of damage is taken by armor instead of health. If you have super armor, 1/2 of damage is taken by armor instead of health. Megaspheres (the brown sphere) set health to 200 and armor to 200 super armor, giving the player effectively 400 health. Your punch, which deals 20 damage, would instead take 10 away from both health and armor. That also extends to why you didn't win sometimes. For the pistol to gib you, you needed 20 health or lower, but counting armor, if you jave green armor you need 13 health or lower and 10 or lower for super armor. Hope this is useful, to both you and anyone else who reads this.

I remember seeing at least one flash game where the objective was to find a way to kill yourself in each level (it was a 2D platformer, though). You also see this a lot in Mario Maker troll levels with anti-softlocks. If a player gets softlocked, they'll either have to start over from the beginning, which means they lose their checkpoints, or wait for the timer to expire. Troll levels being troll levels, they'll try to trick the player into softlocking themselves, where the only way out of the softlock is through the anti-softlock. This is often a difficult platforming challenge where the objective is to kill yourself so you can respawn at the checkpoint, and it's not uncommon for the timer to expire before a player can finish it. Generally speaking, this is little more than a matter of presentation. A game with the objective of killing yourself could just as easily replace a spike pit or saw blade or whatever else with something different, like a gem or a key or an exit or whatever. Either way, you have to reach a certain point on the map to progress, it's just a matter of how it's dressed up. While it's interesting thematically, I don't think there's much different on a mechanical level. This DOOM wad does make things a little more interesting by requiring you to die in a specific way, so you need to conserve health so you don't die the "wrong" way but also make sure you bring your health down enough to die the "right" way. You could easily reframe this by e.g. spending mana to block damage and needing a specific mana range to open a stable portal to the next level (too much mana and the portal destabilizes), so again this is mostly a matter of presentation.

for those who don't get the command line problem: Imagine you're playing quake or some valve game, someone tells you to bind key x to "kill" instead of opening console and typing "bind x 'kill'" you just type "x 'kill'" which isn't a real command and won't do anything

If I was designing this WAD, I would have all of the enemies not attack the player ( idk if you can change enemy ai when making WADs). I was in this dark headspace for most of my life. The biggest problem is believing that every person around you is against you. Even if you never interacted with them at all and they’re just minding their own business and not even aware of you at all, you wholeheartedly believe that they would rather you be dead because you’re worthless. The whole world would be very happy that you’re gone forever because there’s no purpose for you being there. In reality, it’s all in your head and you’re choosing to hurt yourself just for a random person you’ve never met before who’s literally just standing around and doing nothing. They’re not hurting you, but you believe that they want to.

This is just as stressful as "Getting Over It" but instead of "Getting Over It" you're "Never Letting Go" ya catch my drift. He's constantly in a downwards funk.

Perhaps that's shooting the gun signifies. Firing when you're pristine and haven't gotten your hands dirty with whatever's holding you down is just you avoiding the problem until it rears its ugly head again (level restarts). Dying before you can shoot is the problem getting the better of you and holding you down. Reaching the bullet with your health low enough signifies that you've faced it head-on and come to terms with it, and firing it signifies finally putting it behind you and moving on (to the next level). The final level is empty because you've overcome all those inner battles and there's nothing else to grapple with... for now. Surely life has more, new curveballs in store for you, but for the moment, your mind can be at ease.
