I ordered this watch recently. It's my first automatic watch, and I wanted something quality that I could wear every day. I've been really pleased so far! My only complaint (albeit a minor one) is the strap and clasp combination. Both are really nice separately, but the way they come together is a little odd. The strap comes with perforations to make cutting/sizing easier. I like that. However, the springbar holes on the outer side of the strap are farther away from these perforations than they are on the inner side. This is because of how the micro adjust piece of the claps is designed, which is on the outer side of the clasp. This results in the watch wanting to twist towards the outside of the wrist if you take out equal number of sections from both sides of the strap (assuming it's slightly loose). I'd like to get another strap and try cutting more sections from the inside rather than the same number of sections from both sides to see if it resolves this minor annoyance, but the straps aren't cheap at $60. Anyway, I'm really pleased overall. Just wanted to share my experience.

Excellent and detailed review! I love the small thickness and it proves dive watches don't need to be as thick as they ate these days. If it was up to 40mm it would be perfect. I am currently doing a review of the Hamilton Khaki with the H10 and I have to admit I like the movement quite a bit!

¡Amazing review! You really convinced me into buying one, and definitely it’s one of my favorite watches. I’m an avid Mido collector and it’s a really good brand, unfortunately it’s extremely underrated on USA. I was looking into a diver watch with a clean look that I can wear under every circumstance and I just found it. I bought mine with the stainless steel band and it’s really stunning, a lot of people asked me about the watch, its a very minimal and sleek looking watch, but at the same time its a really bold watch. The size is just fine, when I really love the watch, I don’t care about size. And i think 43mm-44mm its a really good watch size.

Mido is awesome! A great brand, superb quality, great history and innovations. Nothing to envy Tudor but the marketing. In fact, Mido is the fourth chronometer producer, after Rolex, Omega and Breitling.

I'm glad someone finally reviewed this watch.I own the blue version on the oyster bracelet. I think there was a lot of thought put into the design of the watch. The oyster bracelet is very comfortable and the glide lock clasp enhances the functionality on the wrist, also the 80 hour power reserve is something one really begins to appreciate after a while.I agree it is a tad to large but the thinness of the case kind of mitigates it. As always I enjoy watching you extremely detailed nuanced reviews

I own a Longines Hydroconquest in Black, an Orient Mako II USA in Blue, a Seiko "Sea Urchin" in Black and now this Mido on bracelet in Black. The Mido replaces them all. For me, I need a Day and Date and I like 1 addition function, in this case the dive aspect. The Mido is larger than the others but I have an 8.25" wrist so it works. Along with the Orient it is the most accurate to the second and most legible. My other watches look nice and are comfortable however they all seem to have a cheapness to them that you only realize after a long period of wearing them. I don't believe in watches as "investments" in terms of profiting but the Mido seems to be the best mix of tool watch and "luxury" looking on the market and I will definitely get my money worth. If you are not a name brand junky, buy the Mido!!
@JustBlueFish
@JustBlueFish 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and for the comment Ortiz. Of that list I have yet to see a Longines Hydroconquest but I've had people mention it to me a lot lately. I'd like to review one someday, and see how it compares to things I've already seen. But the Mido was a surprising little watch and I'm glad to have had it loaned to me and reviewed it.
@UncleRichard.
@UncleRichard. 6 жыл бұрын
After wearing the Hydroconquest daily for a few years, yes. The bracelet scratches VERY easily. The sapphire also scratches easily, I even had a couple of impact specs on the sapphire. After two years it was running close to 2 minutes slow per day! It is a nice looking watch but I need a daily wear that won't let me down. We are doing a full renovation of our home doing all the work ourselves, the Mido has been on my wrist through everything with no scratches or imperfections anywhere. It is accurate and extremely legible, even in direct sun. Understated in appearance but it is a true winner for me.

I agree with the dial appearing very large. However, you showed the watch at 6:15 which meant the minute hand overlapped one of the only other interruptions in the dial, the day/date window. Also, the blue version has a white day/date window so it probably breaks up the dial more than the black dial with the color-matched day/date window, plus the blue dial is slightly textured. I do think the left half of the dial is just a lot of space though. A different 9 o'clock marker might have helped but there's something to be said for symmetry too. Anyway, nice review!

Like in USA, in Europe, Mido wasn't really known before 2 or 3 years ago. It was a brand well known in South America and Asia before. I own 2 Mido, a very basic Baroncelli, with its ETA 2824 and an Ocean Star, in blue version. The both are working fine. The Ocean Star is reaaly robust... With a very good movement. I fall on it, on the rocks of a rail track last summer and the watch got nothing except a little scratch on the steel bracelet... Which "scratched" me however, severely ! Hahaha ! Very good watch. I love it!

Yeah the Mido has a flat dial and both the Rolex and Seiko have chapter ring/rehauts that are stepped and much more pronounced further reducing their apparent size. It really shows how each little detail affects your perception of size/scale. Thank Guy. Interesting. --Michael

Thanks for watching Michael. The diameter of a watch never really tells the whole story when it comes to how it will present once you're holding it in person. On paper 42.5mm seems fairly average for a dive watch but to me this Mido has much more presence than similarly sized watches.

Certina is another brand that uses the Powermatic 80 in their beautiful DS Action divers timepiece. Certina is part of The Swatch Group’s mid-level range of timepieces along with the Mido, Tissot , and Hamilton, so it makes sense that they are all using the same movement under different variations of names. If Mido has flown under the radar for you, quite possibly Certaina has as well, and if this is the case, I would take a look at the DS Action Diver Powermatic 80 by Certina...beautiful quality time piece with nice craftsmanship.

Ya, most individuals are very much more familiar with the mid-level watch brands that you mentioned; Tissot & Hamilton. I did not know anything bout Mido or Certina, but I hit the WUS forum asking or reccommendations on a mid-level Swiss divers style watch, and these were two brands that were mentioned over and over by members. If you happen to get your hands on one, I’d love to see a review.

Nice review, one of not many reviews of Mido watches. Personally I own the Mido Ocean Star titanium, and I do agree to most of your observations. I think that the case and dial are extremely well done, the legibility is great and overall it's a very comfortable watch to wear. Indeed, I would have prefer it in a 2-3 mm smaller case, but unfortunately watches are not shoes and you can't buy them in you favorites size ;). Anyway, its size still looks quite OK on my 6 and 3/4" wrist. Regarding the crown - I don't see any problem with it. For me it is very comfortable to operate it while still wearing the watch. On the other side it's not scratching my skin like some bolder crowns do. Actually I don't have to use it so much since the watch is very accurate - I get between zero to +3 seconds a day. About the bezel - I would also prefer a larger loomed triangle on the top, but otherwise I'm pleased with it. As a "desk diver" I would like to have the hours on the bezel and use it as a second time zone, but that's quite rare. Regarding the loom - I have no problem to see it all night long. It's not so strong but very legible for long hours. And one more thing - the day and date change is really amazing - it happens in a fraction of a second, just like in digital watches!

Thanks for watching Erez and thanks for sharing your feedback. Any of my negatives on this watch are pretty minor, like the crown, and certainly not deal breakers. The only real issue I have with it is the size, and that's not really a problem with the watch - it's just an issue of personal preference and my leanings towards watches sized a bit smaller.

I have this watch and I enjoy it very much. It is also very comfortable on the wrist. I am a diver and if I were to wear a watch instead of a dive computer, the overall size and dial are perfect. Underwater you want clear and maximum visibility. If you are just a desk diver, none of this is probably relevant for you.

Good specs, more exclusive movement than every other assembled-in-Asia micro brands using off the shelf 28XX movements, and somehow manages to look less like a Sub knock off than most divers. At this price point its competing with Seikos and its going to come down to personal preference. The silicone spring, free sprung balance, and 3 and a half day power reserve all make a pretty compelling argument about why you should consider this watch if you're shopping in this price range.

Is there any way to know what accuracy standards the movement has and what kind of accuracy we would be likely to get? Caliber corner doesn't seem to be helpful in that regard, nor does the Mido website. One reviewer thought the movement was COSC, but it looks to me as though that is only certain models.

Looks great ... definitely more "tool-y" and less shiny than the Tissot Seastar I've been looking at. But just like with the Tissot, the lower beat movement would put me off at this price. I'd take a sweeping seconds hand over 80 hours of power-reserve any day of the week.

Nice review, well done. It is an interesting watch for me, as I really like the day/date complication. Do you know if it has a quick day/date change (ie at midnight), or does it take 15 minutes or more to come good? A negative I see is that the lume is symmetrical, so picking the watch up in the dark you can't see where 12 oclock is, unless you leave the bezel there and use the extra lume pip for that or feel for the crown. Also the buckle looks chunky and like it would be a scratch magnet - but I do like the quick expansion feature. Otherwise, I like the design and think it looks great in blue.
@JustBlueFish
@JustBlueFish 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching saulysw. Regarding the day/date, it's a instantaneous flip at midnight. I think most ETA based movements are instant, at least that has been the case on all of my Hamilton watches and this Mido. The buckle is a bit bulky but not really uncomfortable and given that quick adjust functionality I find it to be a fair trade-off.

Both the Mido and certina dive watches use the same 80 hour movement and share the same clasp design. I like the watch a lot, but I have one of the original Mido ocean star watches from 1968. Not a big watch like this version but much nicer to look at it’s also waterproof not water resistant like most watchers are marked up and of course it’s a chronometer as well. I might invest in one of the new ocean stars but I’m concerned with the similarities of the certina diver.

A few things I really like about this watch: thinner than competitors, almost like the 2254.50 which is slightly smaller in diameter; double AR coating, day/date feature. Overall quality of case and band seems up there with the $1000+ watches. I wonder how this compares to the Hydroconquest?

It would have been perfect to compare it to a Tissot Seastar, which is only . 5mm larger in case diameter, I own two of them, the Hamilton Khaki Scuba and will very shortly (days) own the Mido Oceanstar. They are all nice and the Hamilton seems to have the best build quality easily but also has a nearly unusable bezel as it is quite hard to grip, and no, I wasn't targeting all Swatch group divers, but I was targeting entry, sub $1000 divers and they all essentially have the same movement. I also bought an Orient dive watch just for a Japanese diver other than Seiko and not only was it the cheapest but also has the most satisfying bezel by far of any of them (haven't tried the Mido yet).

Mido is kind of an odd duck. I have spent a lot of time in Latin America and Mido is a popular upscale brand there. I've always wanted to like them, but when trying them on, there is something off balance to them. This piece is a tad homely and dull. Enjoyed the review.

As handsome as you are, I would’ve rather been viewing the watch for the first 5 1/2 minutes. But a nice review of a nice watch. I have essentially the same model in titanium.

I believe it has the same movement. I really like the watch but im on the fence about that powermatic movement. From my research only swatch/ the brand can repair, service or regulate them as they are set with a laser and don't have a regulator rather screws on the wheel. Cool video man really enjoyed it!

Rubber straps I hate. For me Divers should be big, more polished than this one. 44mm with 22mm solid links and solid neatly fitted end links, and lug to lug less than 50mm. Lugs should curve down. Crown should be easy to use. High beat for a nice smooth sweeping second hand. And under £300.Like my Seagull Ocean Star. It wears sweet even on my skinny wrist. All in house and easy to service.

Mido ocean star msrp is more like $900 the prices you are quoting are its resale value for used watches. I have a lot of midos in my collection this is one the cheaper end but it's one that I want.

Nice job on the review, but nothing about this watch intrigues me. The specs are good, but the design is so plain vanilla. There's nothing setting it apart in an overcrowded field.

Thanks for watching Patrick. I think the blue lume is a nice touch that's different from most of the watches I've seen in this price bracket, and the double AR coated sapphire is also somewhat uncommon. But at a glance I can see that perspective, it's not a show stopper.

Thumbs down on this one. The crown looks so hard to grab. If I owned one, I believe every time I would glance at it, I would picture having to dig out the crown to wind and set. Just looking at it makes my fingernails tingle.

looks very similar to the TISSOT SEASTAR with the exception of the squared off markers vs round on the SEASTAR , both look like glorified WENGERs / Swiss Army watches , unimpressive to say the least, Dress DIVER/ Desk DIVER , more like FIDO than MIDO, a dog with several fleas. No offense good review , very professtional, THANK YOU, SIR
