As a retired LEO - this officer really pisses me off. If I was his supervisor and saw this video, he would be immediately reprimanded. It is not an officer's job to talk the victim out of pressing charges. If a crime has been committed, the job of the officer is to take witness statements and verify damage. Conducting a valuation of the damage and suggesting its only $25 worth is inappropriate; further, if a wiper was yanked off with any kind of force - there is no telling the potential damage to the actual mechanism of the wiper and its wiring. This is why you conduct your investigation, gather all the information of parties involved, and then file charges upon completion of the investigation when the paperwork of actual cost of repair returns. At the end of it - there is a difference between criminal mischief and criminal damage to private property.

Years ago my wife and I were visiting her family in another state. Guy pulled out infront of us and I was unable to completely avoid hitting him. The at fault driver had no license, and no insurance. He was allowed to drive away from the scene. One officer doing the crash report told me that my damage was minor and I should be able to drive away. I had a feeling it was worst due to the camber on the drivers front wheel. While he was still there I crawled under to inspect and the lower control arm was snapped in half. Cops are not mechanics. Most aren't even mechanically inclined. If you don't know, you shouldn't talk.

Let's take this one step further. If someone were to kick my car and damage it, I'd press charges specifically for the police report number. I'd take the car to a dealership to get it fixed, even if it costs me far more than an aftermarket shop would. Go ahead and pay to get it fixed, get the receipt, go to the local state crime victim's compensation fund, and file for reimbursement. Why? Because the perp then gets saddled with the extra order for restitution that sticks for 20 years, except instead of me having to pursue it privately, the state fund pursues it with far more resources and tenacity than I have.

@Marco250T16 күн бұрын
@@pauljordan4452 Assuming the motor has to be replaced, obviously depending on the extent of the damage, since it was the back door/lid, in most cases you have to remove the interior panel to access anything electrical. There is the time to diagnose the issue/extent of the damage, the time to remove what's necessary to be able to diagnose the issues, and the time to actually repair/replace the damage components. Keep in mind that a lot of shops charge labor by the hour, anywhere from $125 to $250. The time put into the car to do all the diagnostics, the time it takes to do all the necessary repairs, the cost of parts on top of the labor time, doing such a job could easily cost $500. Just to throw out there, most fail to recognize that the labor hours are largely determined by what the manufacturers say. So if the job takes 2 hours to do and a tech gets it done in 1 hour, you're still being charged for 2 hours. A tech's experience and ability to beat the book time won't reduce a customers total bill.

These cops should be fired. She broke his rear wiper and the cop says to the victim, "Do you REALLY want me to charge her and take her to jail over $25?" A broken rear wiper is a lot more than $25. The motor could be broken, the actual housing itself is a hundred bucks. The labor to have it fixed is probably about a hundred bucks, too. His car's value is decreased because of it. His car in the shop to have it fixed is at least a day he can't work. This "only $25" could easily wind up costing him close to a grand. And even if it were really JUST $25, why should the driver have to absorb that? He was providing a service to her and she smashed up his car. That's not his problem. Again, this cop is a total disgrace. Poor driver.

@CptSchmidt I don't think he was necessarily talking him out of it. Just that it's only 25$ and his the drivers time worth that. Or what if the victim had an awful mindset for pressing charges, and wanted more out of it so they drive off and dent their car more making the damages look worse? The cops saying "that's not how that works" for letting him go is a precaution, not a twisted show of power you're presuming. 4:42. I didn’t appreciate the question “Is $25 worth taking someone to jail for?” How DARE he try to trivialize her conduct by minimizing the dollar amount. Without a rear windshield wiper on an SUV that causes danger to himself and potential passengers. She’s responsible. PERIOD!

While the officers sitting there trying to talk the victim into not pressing charges and getting his car repaired by this vandal, he misses as well.His partner getting assaulted.He is the worst cop.

No it's a tiny charge that wouldn't do shit lol. And she was acting ok enough

The first two officers were terrible to the victim. Treating him like shit and forcing him to stay is absolutely ridiculous. No wonder they’re bike cops.

Why did she keep saying that? Those two twits were immature and so annoying. And the "I'm literally 22" was dressed like a street walker.

That's more than a $25 fix. Man need a whole new wiper unit more than likely. $250 in just parts is probably closer.

Cop "I know they violently destroyed your car, that you make your livelihood with, but it's not worth taking someone to jail over. Also Cop- slams them to the floor, threatens to taser them and arrests them when they don't do what they ask as soon as they ask

Those cops talking the driver out of vandalism charges need a little more training. The consumable wiper itself is maybe $20, getting the whole arm replaced is a whole different story. What the hell??
