loved Moog's space invader moves @4 mins .. also if you're re-locating the oil filter try to mount it vertically ( you'll thank yourself next oil & filter change )
@the_real_superstickman3 жыл бұрын
Owning an EJ powered Subaru (filter sits upright) and 4age Corolla (filter lying on its side), I actually prefer the filter lying on its side. Once the vertical filter starts draining out (the filter stays full but the oil in the galleries from the pickup/to the motor comes out) I have to wait until it stops draining before I finish removing the filter, as it drains all the way down the filter and your hand gets coated if you keep trying to take it off while it drains. The lip on the top edge of the filter usually means the oil will drain straight out and down into the pan without going right down the body of the filter, as the ring around the top is the lowest part (when mounted on its side). Sure more comes out but I can normally keep undoing it without getting oil on my hand, don't have to wait for it to finish draining.
@mattc4203 жыл бұрын
Ohhhh so it drains out for oil changes. Hmmm. Never thought of that before. How much does one of those hold?
@888johnmac3 жыл бұрын
@@the_real_superstickman .. true , i usually just punch a hole in the bottom of my filter & leave it to drain for 5 mins .. but refitting means i can pre-fill the filter & screw it on no mess ( well , less mess )
@ElFreddoAndRubyScoo3 жыл бұрын
I too like a vertically mounted oil filter to pre-fill the filter to the top and fit it. One less volume space for the oil pump to fill before it’s pressurising oil to the areas it needs to be at with a running engine. So if it were me, I would vertically mount the oil filter on a remote filter setup.

I hate to be that guy, but: 1. Good oil thermostats don't completely cut off oil flow when closed, like the Improved Racing Tstat in the vid. They will flow about 10% of the oil thru the cooler when closed, so the oil cooler doesn't "shock" the engine with super cool oil once it finally fully opens. 2. Oil cooler cores don't have much structural support, and will succumb to various stressing over time. Bad day when your oil cooler decides it doesn't want to contain your oil anymore. I've mounted external cooler cores at each corner with individual mounts before, and the mounts ate (cracked) 3 cores because of vibrations and torsional stressing. Some sort of strong framework for the core is recommended, and then the mounting points attached to that framework. That way the cooler can focus on cooling, and not worry about falling apart. 3. Personally I don't think it's common knowledge, that you should NEVER solid mount a cooler to a chassis or engine. Look at radiator mounts, they're almost always loosely mounted on some sort of rubber vibration isolators. When they're mounted solid, every bump in the road and every high frequency rev from the engine is transfered into the core. Over time the core will weaken and fail. These risks are multiplied when the vehicle sees track and off roading use. Not meant as a jab, just an FYI! 🤘
@dominikfojs14233 жыл бұрын
Idk if i missed it, but you should add a check valve with the way you placed the filter, since it will drain when its off, and with the length of those lines, you will starve the engine on startup

Two other ways to build up oil pressure: If your car is old enough you can just disconnect the entire ECU and crank the starter. If your key isn't glued together you can temporarily take out the immobiliser module and crank it with the immobiliser engaged which cuts fuel/ignition as well.
