For NHS: In Scotland and Wales, asylum seekers and refused asylum seekers are entitled to free secondary health care on the same terms as any other ordinary resident. In England, refused asylum seekers are only entitled to free secondary health care if they receive: section 4(2) support from the Home Office.

It's the strength of the GBP. Sterling is one of the strongest currencies in the world and it attracts people to Britain, legally and illegally, like a piece of iron to a magnet. For immigrants coming to Britain, if you can make money in Britain in Sterling and pump that money back to the country that you came from which has a weaker currency, then you can buy more "stuff" in your homeland, i.e. buy your own house, cars, luxuries, support your families back home etc, than if you stayed put in your home country and worked there. If the Pound dropped in value and reached a similar value to the currencies of these so called "develpoing" nations, then not even a maggot would want to illegally enter Britain.

Immigrants coming to Britain can communicate better and make enough money in Sterling which they can take back to their home countries and convert it into their native currencies. I guess the English language makes it easier for people to do this in Britain than say in France or Germany. I know lots migrants who come in from Eastern Europe and China, who work on building sites in Britain as builders, plumbers and electricians around the clock, make money and then send that money back to their homeland and I'm pretty sure they are sending it under the tax radar. I think that's one of the reasons why Britain has to remain a high tax country, compared to say Middle Eastern countries where taxes for foreigners are low, because the money "leakage" out of Britain is high.
