Expertly written, perfectly narrated and the editing was remarkable. I loved seeing this footage with your narration. I remember De Ja Vu, Wheelie and Viper. The history of Six Flags over Georgia is so rich. I hope to see you one day at our park. I remember my friends and me waiting in queue for Goliath for the first time in summer 2007. We were a little late. But there was a young kid ahead of us and his mom and he was pumped. He knew the height, the speed. Everything. Velocicoaster is my favorite rollercoaster but Goliath at Six Flags is a close second.

I haven’t been to Over GA in a decade, but went so many times during grade school (I grew up a couple hours away). My first visit was pre-Goliath, and when I went back for my 2nd visit in ‘07, all my friends and I’s jaws dropped when we drove up and saw it. My one regret that trip was chickening out on Deja Vu, which was gone by the time I went again. I love all your old footage and how you properly laid out the hype for Goliath when it opened. I’ve ridden so many hypers now that I didn’t even realize it was the first in the southeast. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!
@OldgeezershadowАй бұрын
If it helps alleviate your regret, I'm pretty certain it was a miracle I was able to ride, seeing as it seemed to be cosplaying as a McDonald's ice cream machine and was broken down more often than not, so your chickening out may have had zero impact on your chances of riding.

I worked at the Great Gasp and Looping Starship in the mid 90s. The tower on the gasp had a control/break room at the bottom. It also had a ladder inside that maintenance could climb up to the top for repairs. I also worked at Free Fall and would collect change after park hours. Sometimes I'd leave with pockets nearly full of change.

I was just at SFOG with some friends. We were there on the hottest day of the year, so I used that as an excuse to get out of riding the Goliath, but really that thing is terrifying. Thanks for covering my home park! I always get excited when SFOG gets a mention.

It looks so much more intimidating than it is!! I went this past Sunday in hopes of conquering my fear of rollercoasters. I seriously considered skipping Goliath, but I decided to go for it and I ended up riding twice in a row. Would have done 3 if I had time. It's not nearly as terrifying as it looks and I say this as someone who, until last weekend, was deathly afraid of coasters in general.

I started going to the park in the 70's as a very young kid and The Great Gasp was the first "scary" ride I ever went on. I clutched my mom's hand with a death grip the whole time, but by the time we got off I was ready to try every "big boy" ride I was tall enough to get on, which at that age I am pretty sure was just the Mine Train - but still, I was off and running. I imagine I was far from the first coaster enthusiast to have cracked out of that Gaspy egg 😁. Great Gasp, you will be missed, but Goliath is more than a worthy heir - hard to believe it's almost 20 years old. Thanks for the great video and for daring to walk up to the top of the lift hill!

I always warn them that you HAVE TO breathe in just BEFORE you hit the low dip of the track and KEEP BREATHING IN, as you go UP. Breathe out when you get to the tallest sections. Otherwise, you WILL black out.

Goliath to me as a kid was the great monument to the growth of boyhood to manhood. Year after year, I waited till I could reach the coveted 54 inches tall milestone to finally topple the Goliath along with its older brothers The Batman and Superman: Ultimate Flight. When I rode it, the sheer bliss of adrenaline I felt as I spun down the spiral over top of the actual entrance to the park not only cemented myself as a coaster lover, but (in my 11 year old mind) a man. I've sought out and found much better coasters, but nothing will quite match the affirmation of a lifelong love of a hobby. Okay now imagine standing in line for 3 hours with no smartphone. Fuck that, right?
