And every combat he's had up to now doesn't tell us anything, as Mihawk said he doesn't go all out against weaker opponents when he was first introduced. He even proved this in Marineford; characters as weak as Mr 1 were able to block his attacks. And he's so committed to holding back that he fought early Zoro with a pocket knife. Mihawk has yet to put any effort at all into any fight.

As much as I hate that we haven't seen a lot of Mihawk (because he's so flipping cool). Everything that we have seen of him is very much in line with his character. We don't see him fight much because he doesn't desire it, at least not anymore, the way he did when he was younger. Aokiji one-shotted Jozu, stopped the water from flooding Marineford, froze the water over after it was melted by Akainu (I think). And with the other Admirals, stopped Whitebeard's huge earthquake from destroying Marineford. Mihawk barely did anything.

Mihawk isn't ruthless though. Far from it. He prides himself as someone who isn't brutal and instead fights with just enough power needed for his opponent. Even when he said he was going after Luffy, he barely moved around and was nonchalant when anyone interfered.

With the exception of Shanks, not many top tier characters show off their strength until their ark comes, so we probably won't see Mihawk do anything till it's actually time for him and zoro to fight. Though I do agree with you, it would be a bit of a disservice to have mihawk only serious fight be one where he will inevitably llose. Though I think another way to compensate for that would be to have Zoro take out people like Fujitora, gorosei Gandhi, possibly even a yonko like Kaido or so (if he does return later in the series) before fighting Mihawk would be just as good. Since we know Mihawk is stronger than Zoro, so the characters zoro defeats end up making mihawk look that much better as well

Maybe the previous strongest swordsman was a marine, or maybe he just wanted to make a name for himself so that he could fight the strongest swordsman. Now he is just a man defending his title, if anyone wants a duel he will gladly accept, but other than that he probably want just to chill, since he already accomplished his dream (think of Roger after going to Laugh Tale, he just went to an island and became a normal husband so that he could live his last days peacefully). All the SH crew will probably chill as well after completing their dreams (even Luffy, he may not just sit like Mihawk, but he will probably just chill with his friends, going in huge feasts eating and having fun).

Honestly, Fujitora makes the most sense for a duel/showing against Mihawk. We’ve already gotten a glimpse of how strong he is on Dressrosa (casually just lifting an entire island’s worth of rubble into the sky), we know he’s one of the Marines’ strongest just by virtue of him being an admiral, and he is a swordsman. Combine this with the fact that the Straw Hats are absolutely *stacked* and Fujitora is unlikely to fight against the Straw Hats on the world government’s behalf, and I think that for the sake of the future conflict with the World Government, Fujitora *has* to be removed from the story somehow so as not to make things completely comically stacked. I think that having Mihawk defeat Fujitora would be the ideal way to do that to be honest.

He already acomplished what he wanted by being a marine, now he will hunt the Shichibukai (and that's probably why I also think he will battle cross guild, since it is the Yonko empire made of the people he hates the most) and after that battle (that he may lose, but I doubt he will die) he most likely would join the pirates or revolutionary army. He is a person guided by his sense of justice, he has almost 0 attachment to the marines, since he was never a part of the institution before being an admiral. Out of any marine, Fujitora is the one character that doesn't buy this ideology.

I don't 100% doubt it could happen, but from what I understood Fujitora is a man who thinks there must be some kind of institution like the Marines, the world needs the marines. that's why instead of taking matter into his own hands, he joined the marines and is trying to fix it. he defies Akainu not because he disagrees with the Marines, but with specifically Akainu's policy. I do see him making use of Akainu's already unfavorable opinion of him to go hunt down the Warlords on his own, and I do see him allying with the Straw Hats to take down the Celestial Dragons and help create a proper Marines, but I doubt he'd become a pirate or revolutionary

Mihawk skill-wise, swordsmanship wise, has the best drip in One Piece too. It always gives me chills whenever Mihawk appears even if he appeared in a single panel. One of the best side characters in all of fiction for sure. Can't wait for him to appear in the story again, I hope Oda gives him at least 1 great brawl with another character before ending things out with Zoro. We are feasting in 2023 One Piece fans!

Honestly, it's pretty disappointing that nothing came of Mihawk's last scene where he was being chased. Lots of people speculated the WG would send an Admiral after him and that would be his big moment. Instead the WG are apparently too incompetent to send more than fodder to capture the WSS, so all we got was more hype and offscreened "amazing feats". At least he has a Yonko-tier bounty now. Also disappointing that there are no high-profile swordsman interested in the title that Zoro needs to surpass before he faces Mihawk. Unlike Luffy who had to go through shichibukai, then commanders, then all the Yonko before becoming pirate king. WSS is a title with only 2 relevant candidates. The most hyped up swordsmen besides Mihawk - Shanks and Fujitora - don't care about the title and may not ever duel Zoro, and even the country of swordsmen has no swordsman that ever pursued the title or recognize Mihawk. Considering the huge number of people in the world that use a sword as their primary weapon, the WSS title has been awfully underdeveloped and made to look very shallow.

Considering Dracule could be based off Romania's national hero Vlad the Impaler given that in this real world figures backstory that Vlad's brother and dad where killed by local warlords it would be really cool if Oda used this historical fact for Mihawk's backstory have Mihawk's brother and father whom are royals Celestial Dragons or high ranked guards at Castle Pangea killed by Luffy's foster family the Dadan Family which explains Garp's throwaway comment about the Dadan Family having bounties as high as the stars.

I like how with the release of chapter 1058 it's basically become impossible to believe Mihawk would lose to Shiryu. There's no way shiryu is on the level of Shanks/Mihawk (who are rivals). Shiryu can't be an endgame character on that level, though I do think Oda will have to make him more dangerous than King. I hope he makes him a dirty fighter.

I think another reason Mihawk is fine on his own besides his strength is that he doesn't actively seek anything. The Yonko have no reason to mess with him because he's not going after the Onepiece or territory. The only people he seems to fight are the ones who start it Their either hopeless upstarts or have enough backing to stand a chance like the Marines.

I think Kizaru would be the best admiral to fight against Mihawk in a brief showdown. He has been shown to hold up against characters like Rayleigh and the Whitebeard pirates, but is also the most likely admiral who would be willing to back down from the fight if Mihawk staves him off. If Oda wanted Mihawk to outright defeat him, he is also the least important admiral to have defeated in my opinion. Fujitora is a good second choice, but I personally see him as the weakest of the admirals.

I've been thinking about the next Mihawk's match up on the series and I think Kizaroo makes the most sense to me, let me explain: Mihawk has oficially said that, if it depends of him, he preferes a peaceful life, so he wont be chasing regular marines nor even viceadmirals by his own, he would only deffend himself and other cross guild members. Said so, watching into a bigger threat like the admirals, it makes the most sense that Mihawk is the one facing it, because he is by far the strongest member of the guild and probably the only one (currently) even able to match one of those. Well, why Kizaroo then? Since Aokiji is no longer an admiral (not even a marine lol), Fujitora is most probably leaving the marines (and in case he doesn't, I think he would be a more interesting match up for zoro), Akainu is the fleet admiral so he is reserved for just the biggest battles and I think he should be a match up for Sabo (maybe dragon) or Luffy, and Ryokugyu seems to be already on a chase for the mugiwaras/Kid's crew/Law's crew. That let us with Kizaroo, wich also suits the most the Mihawk showcase matchup in order to see him using the advanced observation haki to see kizaroo moving at the light speed, the sword combat skill, because we already saw kizaroo fight as a really competent swordman against Rayleigh at Sabaody, and of course the armament haki since Kizaroo is a logia user.

In previous chapters, we were shown potential candidates for the position of admiral such as Tokikake. I think it’s likely that these characters are all at least YC1 level. If Mihawk has a showing where he decimates either one or multiple of these guys, I think it would hype him up quite a bit.

I don't think it's necessary that Mihawk loses to Zoro in the end, even. I think it would be completely satisfying if they had an epic battle that ended in a draw - Zoro would still become more or less the greatest swordsman in the world, and they would both have a long-time rival to spar with. Mihawk would have a new goal, too.

On one hand, I agree on the fact that we need to see Mihawk against a top tier opponent such as Fujitora for instance. On the other hand, I disagree on the fact that some reviewers still say that we did not see a glimpse of his power. Actually we did not see the whole of his power but we did have a glimpse of it already at the Baratie and at Marineford. As for Cross Guild, I would like to see Mihawk against Fujitora and Sir Crocodile against Ryokugyu (desertification powers against greening powers).

Lol! I just wrote about the same match-ups... Mihawk, Hawkeye, against Fujitora the blind swordsman. Crocodile with his desertification power against Ryokugyu with his greening powers would be epic. As for Crocodile against Ryokugyu, I could imagine a kind of outcome like the Akainu vs Aokiji where a part of an island turned into heat/lava and the other part turned into cold/ice. This time it would result in a part of the landscape turning green and another part of it turning into a desert.

Mihawk showing off against all 3 Admirals at the same time would be a pretty big impression i think. he does not need to beat them but fuck them over hard enough in a 3v1 so nobody could ask any questions anymore. Edit: and since shanks can scare off greenbull just with conquerers it is safe to assume that shanks could also 1v3 all admirals, also shanks seems or was at least always on par with mihawk and reverse.
