Wow, that was fun! Random thoughts: Pool is supposed to be played on green felt, not blue. At least they're not using a pink 4 ball, or whatever is popular now. Thank God for that! The secondary break shot at the 44:20 mark -- he's got great shape on the one, but shoots the eight instead and comes right back to where he was! What's up with that? I always heard "Don't play for position when you've already got it," but then again, I'm not Immonen. You have to have supreme confidence in your position play to get away with a stunt like that. By the 50 minute mark or so you can sort of tell he's having fun and not taking it all that seriously any more. There were about half a dozen combo shots that he (wisely) never attempted earlier, and that great bank at 54:37, with the two and maybe ten wide open, seems more for show than necessity. And after that great performance, to blow it on a simple break shot that even I can reliably make? Guess he figured all good things must come to an end and it was about time for this one to do the same. All in all, a great performance and fun run. These guys make it seem so easy.

Just a quick note about your first timestamp: It's just called Center Table Position play. Its to clear out that ball for a cleaner run out
@Boozie737 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure if this has been cleared up for you by now, if not, I'll clear it up for you. There is no color "felt" that is "supposed" to be used for a pool table. Green is probably the most popular and commonly used, however blue has been popular for a while now. It's one of the easiest colors for the eye to tolerate. Also I put "felt" in quotations because this is a Diamond table so he's playing on Simonis Cloth, not felt. All the best tables that pros use are almost always cloth, which plays much faster and is so much better. Watch the Mosconi Cup, they use blue. If your not sure what that is, it's one of the most prestigious pool tournaments in the world.
@philmann34767 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I never heard of this Mosconi guy. Who is he? Some two-bit pool hack or something? Was he any good? Could he run more than two or three balls? What's his top run? Six balls? I could have beat him with my eyes closed. Seriously, as someone who's been playing pool now for more than one-half century, I am simply lamenting the change from green felt to this blue stuff that just doesn't look right to my eye. (Yeah, "felt." They don't use Ivory on piano keys anymore either, but people still "tickle" them.) And as long as I am being old and crotchety, I don't like these stupid logos on the sides and rails of the tables we're seeing nowadays either. This is pool! Not NASCAR! So there!

He hardly ever chalks his cue. I can't believe he hasn't miscued. Doesn't seem to be a problem for the Ice Man though.

He is using Kamui chalk. Very sticky stays on for quite a long time.
@SpaceboyBilliards5 жыл бұрын
@@MrDmgwalsh Not to mention, I've actually run sessions with a freshly scuffed tip, and as long as you hit smooth and soft, and stay near center, you will never miscue. Chalk is really only necessary for power strokes that require english.

He rarely chalks his cue. Most players I've seen in these videos chalk before every shot.
@stuartmitchell32369 жыл бұрын
Art Ellis no idea what chalk he is using, but some stick to the tip longer than others, meaning you can play more shots with them before a potential miscue.
That cue ball must have traveled one cumulative mile on this run...big run but not exactly classic style of play for straight pool...watched Jayson Shaws run the other day...even though Jaysons pace was very rapid I would still say he looked for and ran patterns, almost always had an insurance ball during his run...Mika seems to be just running balls, not looking for nor playing patterns, taking whatever the table gives...it's a credit to his shot making ability.
@MrDmgwalsh9 жыл бұрын
I did not notice when I was keeping score, but I do notice now that I have the time to watch it. I had just watched John Schmidt's 99 and then watched this one and the contrast is remarkable. Mika is using a lot of 9 ball type two and three rail shape where John was using mostly no rails or one rail, killing with reverse, shooting soft, (except for the break shots.)

Dennis Walsh Hey Dennis thanks for responding to my post. I really love your channel because straight pool is my favorite game and I appreciate you sharing these videos. Sure would be nice if we had a lot of guys around here who played straight pool but as you might imagine it's all about the One Pocket in these parts. I know and understand the fundamentals of straight pool although I'm not such a good player myself. My high run is only 28...trying hard to get over that hurdle...thanks again

Steve Davis The world snooker champion from 1981-1989 was the greatest exponent of the game of snooker. and there is no skilflul game equivalent to the game, 9-ball, 8-ball, perhaps that 14:1 maybe .. the game of snooker is beyond any skill of a pool player, just stating a fact that's all.
