Solar is good but … check with your insurance carrier on the type you are putting in. There may be additional cost or a rider. Additionally check with your local power company. They may have restrictions on your usage.

I have to agree with Mike Sr on dishwashers, I’ve noticed certain items that are listed as “dishwasher safe” deteriorates faster when washed in a dish washer than by hand.

One thing about solar panels on the roof that I have never seen discussed is the cost associated with replacing the existing roof that the solar is mounted on. In my mind that is a huge expense, eating up the savings of the solar.
@ryefryАй бұрын
I didn't know when this came out, but those solar panels look old. The ones i had installed on my house 10 years ago were beautiful. Black frames with nearly black panels. They were so sensitive they picked up a charge on a full moon.

Holmes sees things to make the his home son right. By giving his advice to view what will make empty space into a sitting room. Liked his future his future daughter in law went with the black bricks for the house.

House looks beautiful but onlt d9wnside is yet again the particle board cabinet. Youve spent good money dont go cheap.when it gets to kitchen

I would not use cabinets made out of particle board. 3/4” birch plywood with MDF smooth doors. Nothing for grease and dirt to hang on.

I thought it was to improve some parts not to build a house inside of a house, how a home owner will replace a light bulb in the chandelier? Mr Holmes you can tell me how many screws go in the wall, it will be so. It is not who is in charge is about who has the best inmagination

I would have stuck with the open high ceiling in the entry. The view from the top of the stairs - that floor looks like I will have to duck going down the stairs, I am not that tall but it looks like a low ceiling.
@nitrorangeАй бұрын
There’s a concept in architecture to have a lower ceiling at the entry and go to higher, it gives the feeling of opening up as you go into the house, they made a good choice, and it gives more living space to the second floor. Cathedral entry is very 1990s. Also MJ is already building a new house for them over on the Mike Holmes channel.

Michael, can you imagine what your dad is going to be like if you 2 have a son?

Should have built a Hempcrete house not non-green wood house plus hempcrete has twice the R value. And it last roughly 1000 years.
@robynw6307Ай бұрын
I know Mike wants to do the best for his son, but it's MJ's house and he and Lisa should get what they want. Maybe Mike is too used to holding the reins but he needs to loosen them in this case. Or maybe it's just all done for drama on the show. Either way I'm not enjoying the tension caused by Mike.
@jays106Ай бұрын
common myth about solar is "renewable" while yes the sun maybe but when solar panels go bad they are not recycled as they are not or are minimally recyclable so when they go bad they are just dumped in the landfill anyway
@prcerviАй бұрын
there's work being done to make them less environmentally impacting and more recyclable, we'd be further along in the process if more investment had been done years ago but that's pretty common for any tech that might take a slliver of profit from coal, oil and gas
@mickhursey4802Ай бұрын
Quite honestly, I'd leave Mike Snr to it and let him build the house he wants and build the house you actually want elsewhere - unless of course Daddies money is paying for it then you're pretty stuffed. His brick choice, his bath choice and his landing choice. I'm all for taking advice but hell, that's too much..

Again, Frank cheaps out on the receptacles. There should be twice the number dicatated by "minimum code". Hasn't he learned anyrhing from Holmes all these years? And only ONE receptacle in the garage/shop!? That is just criminally irresponsible! I would really like to know the numbers given the original budget of $50k was probably blown by before the roof was even up.

@josiatokirina1788Ай бұрын
Solar panels are great on the roof until they get covered with snow! In northern climates there is 6 months of snow! Black bricks show more dust and dirt. Those houses are too close together. Where I live, houses have to be a minimum of 15 feet from the property line. That is 30 feet total! Cathedral ceilings look good, but are a waste of space and money, a non usable space that has to be heated and airconditioned.

it's being played up for tv drama, also any changes in structure have to be sent off to be re-okayed by the engineer and permit office (a multiday process that upsets prearranged time tables of who's showing up when)
