I am truly convinced that Mike Holmes is one of a kind and the world would be a sorry place without him. Bless you for taking care of all the people you have. ❤

My sister‘s house is over 200 years old, perhaps as old as the country. It’s still solid and doing great. Yes there has been upkeep but the main structure is all original. I live in a new house built only 20 years ago and it is not nearly as well built as my sisters. It will have been fallen down and replaced in a blink of an eye comparatively. I love the character of old houses, from the horse hair plaster to the bark on the beams inside the walls.

My house is 106 years old. Solid as hell. Unique. No reason to buy new construction lol

@patsgarage8593 I'm jealous. I want your house. It was built to last.

We have a 1909 house and the only issues I seem to run across is where others have modified it over the years. :P

When I was a young man, I tried working construction and remodeling. Both contractors I worked with were like the one that messed this up. Soured me on the construction industries

That's Balloon framing. Not done in the USA since the 40s. My Old Place in NJ had it. I actually contemplated tearing it down and turning the chestnut siding and framing into Chestnut Veneer. Then using that money to buy a new house. The main problem I found was No headers and the old nails liked to work themselves out. So headered all the windows and doors and ran ceramic 3 inch screws everywhere. I also Put 5/8 plywood on the center load bearing wall and the back wall of the house. Worked out fine. My ex won't sell the place. LOL.

So many jealous people here commenting about Mikes craftsmanship. Mostly because they can’t do it as good as him🤔🤔🤔

WOW these people didn’t learn their lesson with getting permits to begin with. You had a deck put in only to be taken down because YOU had NO PERMITS. SMFH

Another job very well done by Mike Holmes and his crew along with all of the different trades people that also worked on that house to fix all kinds of big mistakes what a rotten shame

There is a similar Holmes on Homes (earlier season) with a expensive slate shower. Holmes left the shower walls and just replaced the floor pan. The kitchen was badly done and it was fixed too.

12:21 it always surprises me that homeowners don’t know thinset and grout are not waterproof; and in fact, they let water through ¹. It also surprises me at times when tile installers/tile contractors and masonry contractors think same thing…. That concrete is waterproof, thinset, grout, and a product wish never made, Sanded/Unsanded Siliconized Acrylic Caulk which is used so often to “grout” areas don’t feel like putting grout and thinset (yes, wrote correctly, have seen ppl use as thinset and then go back and fill grout joint all way up with this and tool. This stuff will always dry out, crack, pull away from tub deck and/or shower surround over time. IMO, just grout correctly and use pure silicone for change of plain joints as it lasts longer (even pure silicone will need replacing in 5-10 yrs depending on circumstances, but in same area if Siliconized Acrylic Caulk used instead, might be 1-3 yrs before looks bad and will start to crack pull away). Ok, there’s my rant, and do know why “it’s used”, wish it wasn’t though ¹ (yes epoxy grout is water “proof” and can also “seal” grout with a waterproof/water resistant liquid applied product….but MUST reapply yearly and maintain all grout joints, caulk joints, and tile if want to help keep room working and looking great. Preventative maintenance on a car and monthly/yearly maintenance helps keep car running and working good…same with a home, imo).

What a damn mess. I'm shocked they don't have water all through the ceiling/downstairs from that sad-sack shower. BUT - I am gagging over here while they're paddling around in standing grey water with UNGLOVED HANDS. So gross.

HAHA thats funny Mike 2 weeks for a proper kitchen and bathroom? For a proper kitchen and bathroom 6 to 7 months and $90k to $100k
@kishinasura7701Ай бұрын
If you shedule it the right way and have enough man power available at once, you can do it really fast. Often times it takes so long because you only pay 1-2 people to work for longer instead of 5-6 people at once.
