Can't trust anyone these days, so we'll do it ourselves. And thanks to this show I have a better understanding of plumbing and electrical and i know how to judge when its being done right by the professionals. In Australia, the inspection reports dont matter so much. The Certificate of Occupancy matters, it says rhat yes, someone is able to live in that space we call a home. Usually produced by the local council. Required for hand over from builder/contractor to owner and when the place is sold on. Is it perfect system? No, we have some rogue operators that get away with dodgy stuff. But it does mean that the home owner doesn't need to keep track of the permits and go ahesds themselves.
@dennisthornton44342 ай бұрын
You need to report the contractor, whoever did this crap should be sued.
@marcelwildeboer3 ай бұрын
How is it possible that it is still not right, you have obtained all the permits, everything is inspected and still nothing is right, who is going to hold all this up to the contractor and I think that the person who approved everything is certainly also liable......... If it were not for this program, another family would be in great trouble with an unliveable house.....
@ArthaiusАй бұрын
- Well, I am not any kind of professional, so take what I say with a grain of salt but I think that the Permits are completely separate from the work done in the sense that the Permits are like you go to the legal land offices for the city/Government regulations, and apply to get something done, they see all the drawings plans etc and then inspect to see if it can be done safely legally and according to zoning that sort of thing. Once you get their approval you have permits, like having a hunting license it means you have permission to do the thing you got the permit for, and can begin doing the work. That part was done, and they achieved all their permits. The Problem here is that the contractor who was hired to do the work, did not do anything correctly, took advantage of the homeowners not having technical knowledge and so by doing fast cheap incorrect work and painting over everything trying to make it look like it was done well or correctly or whatever, to fool them into paying a lot of money and not actually getting what they paid for. And clearly the guy was pretty bad at things because even someone with some moderate skill could have covered things up better this guys poor work was so obvious, most times ( if you aren't Mike Holmes ) you have to open up a wall or something before you can actually notice the scam. So, as far as I can see the people who issued Permits were not doing anything wrong, they looked over the plans and the property and found the proposed project acceptable and said "No problem, you are good to go" ; but that was the end of the Permit aspect, so they are not really responsible for anything afterwards. Now, any inspections being one on work after the fact definitely should have caught that the work was badly done and not up to code, so either the inspections never occurred and the contractor only said they were, or perhaps someone got paid off to look the other way, because sad as it is, it doesn't matter how high up on the chain you go there will always be people who will lie if they get offered enough money, so I'm not sure which happened but my money is that there were never any inspections, and the contractor just said they were done. Anyways, that's my thought, but I am not a professional, and I wasn't there so ... maybe I am right maybe not, who knows, lol.

Timber is the strengthen of any structure. We bought an old house and had to renew all the structural timber due to woodworm. Adding extra cross beams as we went. From the cellar to the attic. It is that which one does not see that is the most important part of any home. Lived in it now for 48 years. Foundations, good, new roof, it is a huge roof. Invest and it becomes a safe home that will last the test of time. 👍

I just want a video that goes through the episodes and tells us what happened to some of the crappy contractors and their companies when all this is aired. They cant really tell you the names of the companies because they would probably get sued but at least being able to hear if that place went under or got sued themselves for poor workmanship would be nice to know. Ive worked with some in the past who did things poorly on my house but at least those ended with them giving some money back and being flagged for their crappy work. Companies need remember even if they do not have a website there are still ways to place comments so people get a real idea of how poorly they do their jobs. Plus i think a lot of inspectors are lazy idiots these days who need to check more then a wall or two and check the whole house not just do one side and figure its the same everywhere.
