Actually Jerry Burns and Bud Grant and those 1970's Minnesota Vikings teams were the inventors of the west coast offense. There just wasn't a name for it, Walsh copied them,that dink and dunk $#it has been around forever .
@thelogicalcowboy

@@patrickfurlong9169 I have to respectfully disagree with you, Patrick. Al Davis received the concept from Sid Gillman when he was the Chargers' wide receiver coach in the early 60s and brought it to the Raiders in '66. At the time, Bill Walsh was the running back coach. He took Sid Gillman's concept and became the first coach to formulate it into a true offensive scheme with the Bengals. Fran Tarkenton ran a form of the West Coast offense a year after Al Davis brought it to the Raiders in '66. Tarkenton was with the Giants, not the Vikings at that time. Tarkenton and the Giants ran a form of the concept out of necessity, not because of a concept. Thanks for watching 🙏

Gillman was the first one to throw more than he ran but I don't know if his offense featured a lot of west coast concepts. I would have to look at some old tape. I would love to pick Tarkington's brain on this subject.

@@patrickfurlong9169 If you want to read up on it, the link below provides a great summary and discusses Gillman's West Coast offense and how Walsh was the one who formulated the concept into fruition but didn't necessarily create it. www.google.com/amp/s/syndication.bleacherreport.com/amp/76008-the-real-west-coast-offense.amp.html Another excellent resource is Wikipedia. If you decide to read about it on Wikipedia, go to the section called 'typical plays'; there is a lot of valuable information. Great video 🔥🔥🔥, Looking forward to seeing MM run his offense, According to a Jalen Tolbert interview KM was asking the receivers to read defenses mid route, The more you have to think the more likely you are to hesitate and in a game of inches and seconds that’s never good. We might score less points than with KM but we won’t wear down our defense and our offense will be more efficient overall and we will be a better team playing complimentary football. I’m not a KM hater I just don’t think what he was doing was working for this team and I’m stoked to have MM finally get a chance to fully coach.

I'm with you. I think Kellen Moore is going to be an amazing OC, (maybe) one of the best we've ever seen. I think his problem was that we hired him early in his career with absolutely no experience. His biggest issue was that he didn't know how to adjust, and sometimes he was overzealous. McCarthy has been there and done that. Just based off of experience we're definitely going to see a more proficient upgrade in our offense, which, to me, will lead to more consistent points. Maybe not more total points than Moore's offense, but it'll be more consistent vs good teams. Which is scary. Like sb scary! Thanks, bro!

Good info. One thing I always liked about Walshes teams was the scripting of the first 15 plays, this had to really payoff in big games where the team is often a little nervous on the first drive. They just had to do what they were programmed to do and didn't have the chance to over think it. I think that kind of structure would benefit Dak in divisional games.
@thelogicalcowboy
@thelogicalcowboy Жыл бұрын
Thanks, CS! What's crazy is that most teams had at least 15 scripted plays, especially back then. But Walsh was known to have 25 scripted plays. The 49ers practiced those 25 plays more than any other play of the game. No matter what other teams did, as you said, they kept steady with the program. That offense was an oiled machine.

Thanks for the compliments, bro! I think that's a good idea! I knew we had to let Zeke go for obvious money reasons, but I'm with you. We're going to miss him, especially his leadership. Maybe a greater emphasis on timing and precision will have tangential benefits like cutting down on overall sloppy play.

You can look at all the Dak stats you want. The stats aren’t going to tell you one important thing that makes him bad for this style of offense. And that is, HE DOESN’T LEAD RECEIVERS. Yes he has good completion percentages, but his receivers usually have to stop, slowdown, drop down, or catch on the wrong shoulder. He does a good job on jump balls, back shoulder fades, comebacks, and sideline throws, but have a receiver streaking horizontaly and Dak will slow him down. So focusing on short passes where you want YAC, forget it.

If Pollard didn’t get hurt we would of won the SF game. Is losing by 6 and 7 points really imploding? If anything Daniel Jones imploded, Imploded means you get stomped imo. Does he get any credit for beating Tampa Bay on the road? If he’s more successful this season and we go even further in the playoffs then I guess it was a coaching issue. If he regresses then there’s really nowhere else to put the blame. Guess we will have to wait and see, I do think KM running the clapper era system was hindering us but time will tell.

Last part of my research actually cowboys were mostly young men who needed cash . Famous cowboys were half of 19 th century golden age of American cowboys . Cowboy means one who tends cattle or horses . Most of cowboys live in Texas. Many cowboys in old west had been civil war soldiers. Cowboys typically lived in bunk houses . Cowboys developed distinct style of clothing. Rodeos were created to test skills of cowboys in roping and other launching activities. Most famous cowboys such as willd Bill Hickok, Wyatt Earp . Several women as cowhands alongside males. Iam so sorry to be little long but reading and writing both are great ways to improve our English as none native speakers. Happy father day in advance. The run and shoot offenses in the 90s are similar to the Air Coryell offense. But what's going to separate Dallas from a lot of what we've seen before is that McCarthy is a true West Coast guy. According to who? Is that according to KM? According to Jalen Tolbert the receivers were having to read defenses mid route, KMs offense was stupid. I don’t think he made it extra complicated because Daks timing if anything you’d make your offense more simple if that was really the case. If we get to the Super Bowl I wonder if Cowboys fans who are Dak haters will be able to say “guess I was wrong it was KM” and on the other side of the coin I wonder if Cowboys fans who are Dak lovers will be able to admit 4 was the problem if things don’t go well. You cannot say that Dak has issues with timing and anticipation. We need to be fair across the board. In the video, I presented data that displayed Dak's proficiency when throwing quick timing and rhythm passes that were 2.5 seconds or less. His numbers were elite in that category. Moore's long stop routes posed problems for Dak, and the numbers support it. Moore requires a strong-armed quarterback with a quick release to execute his system and make those deep stop routes successful. Dak lacks a strong Brett Favre arm that is necessary for throwing a deep curl across the field, nor does he have the quick release to do so. You can't just put it all on dak. It was the system too.

@thelogicalcowboy the Cliff Harris video pretty much explains why they lost 13 with the pass coverage in the first half and they didn't run Dorsett enough. Pittsburgh always had Dallas' number in the 70s. As good as Dallas DBS were they couldn't cover Swann and Stallworth but no one in the league could. 81 game was even until the Catch but Dallas was in field goal range until Danny White fumbled on the last drive inside SF territory. One of Danny White's reasons for being called a loser...the catch wouldn't have existed if Danny hadn't fumbled and they had kicked a fg and won. Dallas got blew out in the regular season by SF and Landry went back to the drawing board to beat them in the championship game. I always thought Landry got too fancy playing Pittsburgh with trick plays that didn't work either. Landry could not physically match up to the Steelers. The only team that could in the league was Oakland. In all honesty the best games of the mid and late 70s were in the AFC playoffs.

Love your videos and your analytical breakdowns!!! In my opinion, the problem the Cowboys have the other aforementioned teams didn't is discipline. They play very sloppy football and have for the past twenty-five years. Also they are consistently overrated. Dak is a good QB just not great and his receivers are good receivers, just not great. Dak isn't the best at reading defenses and they aren't the best route runners. I believe Dak is good enough to make it to a SB, (after all Rex Grossman made it to one) But he's going to need great coaching to work around his weaknesses and a GREAT defense who can consistently get off the field on 3rd down. They will never have great coaching as long as JJ is around because he considers himself the coach. Johnson and Parcells were the best Jerry had (both disciplinarians) and he got rid of both. Jerry loves making big moves in the off season to generate media but always falls short in the playoffs. Hope I'm wrong, but...... Once again great video!

@thelogicalcowboy
@thelogicalcowboy Жыл бұрын
What's up, bro?!! Always enjoy your perspective! One thing I love about this offense is that it will have aspects of Schottenheimer's modern version of the Air Coryell, which destroys Tampa 2 defenses, especially vertical routes up the sidelines, drive routes that attack the high low middle of the field just under the linebacker, and seam routes that attack on the numbers. If teams run a Tampa 2, guys like Cook and Gallup will feast on deep sideline passes, while Lamb will feast horizontally, and our TEs will eat up the seams or on dig routes. Keep in mind, the Tampa Cover 2 is not the best defense against the run, particularly on delay runs. Schottenheimer is one of the best run designers in football. If the defense leaves the box open by sending their middle LB/SF in coverage up the field, Pollard and Duece will eat that middle defense alive. When it comes to generating pressure (unless you have a Warren Sapp), Dak will not be under pressure as often as other defenses because you can't blitz often in a Tampa 2. This means Dak will have more time in the pocket to make his reads and decisions. You're not going to be able to put this offense into a box like previous west coast offenses.

@@thelogicalcowboy in phases the shorts quick passing game of the west coast tampa 2 is a west coast stopper. The addition of air coryell will be Kellen moore offense that is there already then it’s longer west coast that’s when defenses disguise that they are in cover 3 it will be a chest match. Tampa 2 will only rush the front but that’s all giants washington eagles chargers patriots jets rams needs is there front to get to quarterbacks But the main thing is dak struggles with his timing and anticipation and deep intermediate route’s except the go ball or 9 route he throw ball behind receivers on digs and our slants or late often And press man zone is other ways to disrupt the timing of the west coast short game I hope it work but to many ifs for me OTAs against air and against no contract practice it will look good

@thelogicalcowboy Жыл бұрын
@@Deezboyzjustwin Again the don Coryell kills the tampa 2!! Those teams are not getting to dak with just their front 4 lol. Schottenheimer will definitely install his own version of the Air Coryell offense, which should not be difficult to do. I'm not saying that it'll be a lot of changes because, at the end of the day, a Coryell offense is a Coryell offense. There isn't that much to change; however, Kellen Moore's version contained too many stop routes that resulted in Prescott throwing too many interceptions. That won't happen with Schottenheimer designing the plays. Schottenheimer likes to keep his receivers on the move, and so does McCarthy. I agree that it will be a chess match that, I believe, will favor us. Dak's accuracy against zone coverage and cover 2 defenses, he posted a 0.419 EPA/play last season, which is phenomenal. In the game against the Eagles, a heavy zone defense, Dak earned a season-high 91 NGS passing score in Week 16. He completed 24 passes against zone coverage for 300 yards & 3 TD, earning the only perfect 99 NGS passing score vs zone in a game since 2018. Dak is highly accurate and underrated, but to your point he does at times have issues against traditional cover 2 looks such as Tampa 2. New concepts will be helpful for him in these situations.

MY THING IS THIS: Is McCarthy talking about the "OLD" WEST COAST OFFENSE, that he ran - and got STALE in Green Bay with, that even had QB Aaron "PRIMADONNA" Rodgers later admitting, McCarthy would call the plays, I would roll my eyes, change the play, then latet admitted, he lied to the coaches on the sidelines and said, the speaker in his helmet had stopped working, so he had to call a different play, so we're NOT talking about an "AUDIBLE" or is McCarthy talking about "MODERNIZING" his WEST COAST OFFENSE, like what or similar to what Andy Reid did in Kansas City? REMEMBER: Both Reid "AND" McCarthy was eventually FIRED! Reid was "MAN ENOUGH" and "MATURE ENOUGH" to admit what he was doing in Philly was no longer working, and he "MODERNIZED" it! Can McCarthy do the same? SIDE NOTE: Same thing with defensive coordinator Dan Quinn! I was 100% AGAINST the Quinn hiring, based on what he had done on defense that wasn't working anymore. Especially after that 28 - 3 lead MELTDOWN in the Super Bowl against the Patriots! There's NO WAY - NO WAY - they should've lost that Super Bowl - BUT THEY DID! But Quinn - like Reid - was "MAN ENOUGH" and "MATURE ENOUGH" to admit what he was doing, the league caught up to it, so he "MODERNIZED" it! Now, I don't worry about Quinn - AT ALL - and even trust him!!!

What's up, Coop? It's the same offense, but with a lot of modifications - a lot modifications lol. In Green Bay, it was only the West Coast, so things got stale very quickly. Now, it's a combination of the Air Coryell offense. What I didn't mention in the video, and I'm mad that I forgot to mention, is that McCarthy's mentor, Paul Hackett, did something similar in the 80s when he was the Dallas Cowboys' offensive coordinator. Landry and Hackett combined the West Coast offense with Landry's offense, and it became a success. That was until Danny White injured his thumb, and the offense went downhill. It seems like McCarthy is trying to do what his mentor did.
