There's only so many times you can watch videos about "Super Mario 2 was really Doki Doki Panic" as a startling revelation on KZbin! >.>. Finally, someone who knows Mike Oldfield isn't just Tubular Bells! I recommend a lot of his albums, starting from his first 4 or 6 albums; and then from the 90s (Amarok) and on. I haven't explored it, but Thom Yorke did a similar thing (i suppose that a lot less ambitious) with an app called Polyfauna, which resulted in the music for his next album, Tomorrow Modern Boxes.

As a hardcore Mike Oldfield fan, I love this video. You covered well the history and background, and yes, Oldfield is a weird guy. He has retired (for the third time, but this one seems to be the final one), and he is prone to be reclusive and leaving projects at dead ends. For example, he bought that Silicon Graphics fridge to make CGI for his music videos, and in 1984 he released the "Islands" album, which had a long movie/music video that goes along called "The Wind Chimes", kind like Interstellar 5555 goes with Daft Punk's Discovery album. He said back then "video-albums are the future, and from now all my albums will be released with it's video companion". Islands was the only one to do so.

Music VR (maestro, and especially Tr3s Lunas) are my childhood, literally. My dad loved Mike Olfied, so, he downloaded his games, and I played them. I remember those days when I had five, six, seven years old, playing those games, and enjoying them a lot. And I still do like the games, It meant so much for me, that I would even consider saying that Tr3s Lunas, It's actually my favourite game. Remember when I was 10, I would say to my dad: Imagine if Tr3s Lunas 2 came out some day! I just had hope that maybe, I could play a new game in that style, that any other videogame has ever matched. Very cool and interesting video, I have two questions; How do you play the multiplayer version? And, in what site/web did you find to download both games? Just like to add, that, this is a really good review, and I can see you perfectly understad what these games go about :) PD: Sorry if I made any mistake or something, tbh I'm spanish

Finally, a game I don't feel like I need to rush out and buy after I watched your video :D But it's impressive for an early 2000's interactive program, especially the multiplayer side, it looked really smooth! If Mike Oldfield wants to make a video game he should talk to Tetsuya Mizuguchi, he designed Rez, Lumines, Child of Eden and Tetris Effect, he knows how to bring art, video games and music together :) I'd love to see something similar come out of Trent Reznor's mind. He's a gamer so he might have a better clue how to make a game more fun.

@moomoocupcakes
@moomoocupcakes Жыл бұрын
@@brandonmorel2658 egglike is a term coined ~2012 by a KZbinr named Vinny Vinesauce. The games are usually independently created games where you walk around abstract worlds and discover weird/interesting characters or events. A lot of games are kind of low detail like this game is. I'm sure if you look up egglike in the search bar you'll find an example. The games are weirdly aesthetically similar and wildly unique at the same time.

I'm going to have to disagree with your statement about not expecting games to have originality and maturity like this in the early 2000s. The 90s and early 2000s had far more experimental and original projects than we have in this era now because the rules of 3D video games weren't really laid out so you had a huge amount of weird games coming out and experimenting with what was possible. Games like LSD and such that you don't get anymore. The indie scene is trying to bring experiences like this back, but they're missing something from that era. To me, this fits perfectly in with that era of games actually and I don't find it too outlandish. Of course the larger titles of every era will be a big action game, much like they have been for films. But that's the way things have always been. Glad to see stuff like this covered though, it was a good video.
@Gatorade69
@Gatorade69 2 жыл бұрын
And I would have to disagree. There's still tons of experimental games being made, you just have to look to the indie developers for them however. Sure, the 90s was a time when that change to 3d happened and things got weird and experimental. Using LSD Dream simulator as an example it was made by an artist and was only available in Japan, It's not like it had a big release. There's plenty of games being made by indie devs that focus on art first and they usually play better than LSD Dream simulator.

In the 90s basically anything interactive with 3D graphics was considered "VR", whether it required a headset or not. Doom (1993) was considered a "VR" game. That usage was a bit out of date by the early 2000s but it explains why the project was called "MusicVR", especially since it started life on an SGI box in the 90s.

Software like this is amazing. I just love it. I love passion projects of few polys and low-res textures with all the shine wherever it needn’t be. It’s beautiful and meaningful. In the Library of all human achievement, these programs too will be crowned among any multi-million dollar experience. It’s hard to describe how I feel about these things, but they’re so important to me.

If this guy had triple A kinds of money and a talented game developer/studio he could really make something special. Almost like a really cool game to play while your stoned or tripping haha 😵‍💫 especially if it synced up with his music. If the beat went with the visuals... it could even give you the feeling that you were tripping even if you weren't with a VR headset on.

Talking about video games created by English One Hit Wonders Who Are Musical Geniuses And Deserve Greater Love, if it's possible could you look into Map Of The Floating City by Thomas Dolby perchance?
