@Activated_Complex5 жыл бұрын
Oh, man, David Lynch directing Star Trek would knock it out of the park. Look what he did with Dune, after reading the book once. He then went out and made the most faithful adaptation we’ll probably ever get of the densest, most mind-bending sci-fi novel to ever have broad appeal.
@ghoulsarefree5 жыл бұрын
his dune movie was the abomination. it included way too much of the literal text but didn't even begin to understand the characters or themes of the book. he was like if you had google deepfake adapt a novel.
@Activated_Complex5 жыл бұрын
Frank Herbert disagreed, and he wrote the book. But I’m sure you know better what the characters and themes were. It’s a shame he passed away shortly after offering his own praise for the David Lynch film in the forward to one of his subsequent Dune novels. You could’ve educated him on all the ways he was wrong about his magnum opus and what it meant.
@thecianinator4 жыл бұрын
Having the first 1/3 of the book take up the first 2/3 of the movie, making Vladimir Harkonen loud and insane instead of cold and calculating, and having him straight up tell Thufir Hawat that he secretly poisoned him and making him milk some gland in a cat with a bizarre surgical contraption to produce the antivenom, replacing the vague mystic notion of something called the weirding way with voice activated handguns, replacing the most important scene in the book with narration over a b-roll shot, turning Paul into an actual god who makes it rain in the desert, and straight up showing all of the secret dealings that are only speculated on by characters in the book before said characters even start having to solve the mystery of said secret dealings were all sound decisions that made Dune the perfect film adaptation of a book
@Activated_Complex4 жыл бұрын
thecianinator All valid points. I disagree with none of them. And I still regard Lynch’s Dune as a high bar for faithfully adapting Frank Herbert’s inaugural novel in the Dune series that I hope (but am far from certain) will be met or surpassed by Villenueve. I do not believe, and am fairly sure that I never said I believed, that it was a perfect film adaptation.
