Mike's Garage: E21 - 4L60E Replacement in my 1996 Caprice LT1

Today I am replacing my 4L60E automatic transmission in my 1996 Chevy Caprice. This transmission failed me without warning and I am replacing it with an upgraded rebuilt unit from a local re builder.

Big thanks to your video. My 95 fleetwood blew its trans so I was lost when it came to the trans cross member. Broke 2 bolts on the pass exhaust header. Idek how I’m going to get those studs out

didn't have to take off, use universal and 15mm long-ass Extention can get all bolts from trans, dislike rusty trans cooler lines careful blue tip wrench

Glad it’s working. I have a 96 LT1 loaded. I have similar mileage, mine is a little funky when manually putting it in 1st, almost like it doesn’t catch. Did you notice a difference with the shifter feel or while during? Crisp shifts?

It has a nice firm shift as i ordered the transmission with some upgrades. its rated for ~800 Ft lbs. I wanted it to hold what i have in store for it later. Thanks for watching!
