Nice setup. The in-wall rack is a nice touch. The seating is cinematic and looks much more comfortable. The added bass shakers and the ability to isolate the subs' sounds are what sets your theater apart from others. Late night movie watching, without waking the rest of the house...Score! The overall aesthetics of the room with the paint scheme is envious.

Just finished the video. WOW. This is a 9.5 / 10 room. This is how you do a proper home cinema. Blacked out room, noo colorful posters to discract you. No mech that will distarct you and probably fall from the bass. No seats that are right agains a speaker, they are close but still have some space. Speakers are behind the screen, maybe not at the proper specification height but man. Mike thank you. I don't know how these tactile bass transdusors work but, if you really like those, have a look at the BOSS platform on AVS forums.
@GateFather3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I will take a look at BOSS. The speakers behind the screen are at about ear height of the rear row listening and since my MLP is the middle back row seat, it works well! I admit it is a bit high and off axis for front row listeners but my kids don’t seem to notice :-) haha

I would only nitpick about two things... mismatched Left/Center/Rights (you need three of the same vertical speakers for the best performance behind the AT fabric), and the side walls reflect light off the screen, which can be distracting. I would suggest black velvet wrapped panels to create a solid black void around the screen to soak up stray light scatter. The image quality would go to the next level. Other than that, it's a really great theater!
@GateFather3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Dan! The LCR are from a previous living room home theater where I needed a traditional center, hence the CM Center 2 S2. I thought about buying a third 684 S1 but it’s actually an inferior speaker to the CM Center 2 S2, even considering the form factor. Rather than spend that $ now, I decided to save it for when I do a full LCR upgrade in the future! As far as the reflections, there actually is triple black velvet coming out from the front wall 21” on the sides and on the top and bottom + 21” onto the ceiling. I considered bringing it all the way to the panel, but with the lights on the room looks much nicer broken up with some gray cyberspace paint between that front black velvet and the floor to ceiling panels. Maybe I’ll consider it in the future!
@dan_hitchman0073 жыл бұрын
@@GateFather Let me suggest Triad Gold LCR's for the front three speakers (that's what I have and really love them for both movie and music listening at punchy audio levels - though I don't shoot for reference SPL levels as that can damage your hearing, especially in home theater sized rooms, but they could do this with the right amount of amplifier power). There are a number of folks on AVS Forum who have paired Triad speakers with RSL in-ceilings (I use them too) for the Atmos overhead channels to save a few bucks - even the Brolic Beast theater uses the huge Triad Platinum speakers with RSL overheads. Triad suggests ATI amps (standard amps or their newer digital rail amps - or ATI built amps under various OEM names) or Parasound Halo amps as those amps play well together, though you can use other brands as long as they have low distortion and high damping specs. Triad demoed their speakers with Trinnov at the last CEDIA expo in 2019 (before CEDIA went virtual due to COVID) and won one of the best of show awards. It was fantastic! A bonus is that they are still hand made to order in the U.S.
@GateFather3 жыл бұрын
@@dan_hitchman007 Thanks for the suggestion - if you don't mind me asking, what do the InRoom Triad Gold LCR retail for each?
@dan_hitchman0073 жыл бұрын
@@GateFather $2,500 each MSRP at the time I purchased them, but I received a dealer discount. YMMV. I purchased them via Dawn at Egret Electronics in Florida, though AV Science (upstate New York) carries them too. Triad does like you to work with local custom install or other authorized local brick 'n' mortar dealers selling Control4 product first whenever possible, then switch to out of state dealers if necessary. Either way, they are drop shipped to you from Triad's plant in Portland, Oregon. Their standard black matte finish has no upcharge. They are a lot more dynamic than B&W speakers for movies... unless you move up to the B&W Nautilus line, though then Triad Platinums can take those on too. I used to have Paradigm Studio speakers and the Triads equal them for music, but excel at movie soundtracks. They are neutral to slightly warm speakers.

Great theater room!! How does the subs do pointing side ways? Or does it sound better pointing towards the audience?
@GateFather3 жыл бұрын
This is my rooms tour. It changed the low frequencies response but in my case I was lucky it did so beneficially when turning them sideways. It’s not always going to be better one way or the other, but taking measurements and listening led me to believe sideways was actually more beneficial. Plus I didn’t have enough depth behind the screen to put them facing forwards. Also was worried about the air displacement coming out of the ports if I faced them towards the screen, possibly moving it. So sideways was all around better in my case.

Hey Tony, another great vid. I'm trying to figure out how Mike's lighting is controlled. You mentioned an Amazon Echo connected directly to an Insteon Switch. How is this done? Join our Discord server - links in description and you can post a question to Mike there.
@GateFather3 жыл бұрын
I realize this is three months later but....I actually updated since this video. I changed all the bulbs out to RGB smart bulbs called Yeelights. The Insteon is there but I never turn it off now as the bulbs turn off themselves. The Echo Dot still controls the bulbs but now i can create "scenes" of patterns of colors etc. to give the room a very cool lighting scheme or to just dim the lights. You connect the Alexa app to Insteon (or now in my case Yeelights) via a Alexa app (called a skill in the Alexa app) and then tell alexa to discover your smart home devices. After that you can ask alexa to turn off the [whatever you called them in the app] lights! "Alexa, set theater lights to 5%" - and down they go!
@JunkerDC3 жыл бұрын
the center speaker should match the left and right speakers behind the screen I like the room I would have done a little bigger screen and more amps that about it everything else is cool
@GateFather3 жыл бұрын
The front left center and right were reused from a previous setup. I plan to get a set of matching LCR JTR speakers in the future, but for now the B&W 684 S1 would be a step down vs. the CM Center 2 S2 I have at the center position. The CM Center 2 S2 is still a far superior speaker to the B&W 684 S1, especially for center use. The screen is as big as the projector will throw at the distance I had available so 158" 2.35:1 is as big as it gets for me. And its really big!

Hey Gilberto! What I do is zoom the projector in so that the sides of the picture line up with the sides of the screen. Then, there is a blanking feature in the projector menu you can use to blank off anything hanging above or below the screen space! You can save that as a preset like "135in 2.35:1 Blank" and even the blanking is saved to that lens position memory. Hope this helps!

Are those the base model fv15 with the 400w amp? Or is it the hp2? I was thinking about going with x2 fv15hp2, my room is 13x23x8, 2,400 cubic ft. Do you think it would be over kill? What size is your room?

The FV15HP is the High Powered model with the 600W amp. I always say, the more power, the more headroom. Even at lower listening levels, more headroom can mean better quality. Although Rythmik subs already have such good quality throughout their whole range. For the extra $160 per to go from the 600W (FV15HP) to the 1000W (FV15HP2), I would say go for the 1000W versions! If I did not have the tactile transducers, I would say the subs alone are a little UNDER powered.

There are a few short demo snips but getting a true picture and audio demo is difficult through videoing the screen

The main issue is copyright as well. Have to be super careful with that or I can get my channel banned.

Yeah unfortunately the shape of it doesn’t allow for a nice rack integration but it’s really not too bad in there.
