Before jumping on Cameron.... Realize he was very vulnerable to allow us to film and share this with the community for us all to learn from. Imagine cameras and showing the public your most humiliating and lowest moments. That takes guts. I believe Cameron will turn things around and I look forward to sharing that in the future. Most people only show the highlights, the good times, the wins... that's why most feel alone when things are going bad.

Omgoodness. Mr. Mike Andes. You are a very wise person. Not just in the business departments but sounds like life in general. Your advice to this young man and his family was brilliant I’d say. That young man reminds me a lot of my husband’s personality. I’ve been attempting for years now to tell him to get out of his head so much and into his heart within every aspect of his life. He’s under so much stress all the time that our marriage has literally fell apart. Although he’s not a business owner he’s just an employee for over 3 decades now for the same job. I hope this young man can learn that everything is ok so he doesn’t end up losing his family because stressing about everything in life isn’t worth it in the long run. If I could make a small suggestion for this young man that would to try to meditate every morning before he starts his day. Even he would be surprised after only 3 months of doing this small 20 min practice daily. 😊

Been in construction for 20 years and am a business owner. I’ve seen a lot of guys like him in my day. He is not a lost cause by any stretch. He just needs to take some instruction and needs to listen to guys like Mike. Mike has tons of corn in the crib and he could learn so much just by more listening, less talking sprinkled in with more accountability

I don't think he should have his wife in his company. He obviously talks to her about the issues. The wife and him will always back each other up and possibky give eachother a bad perspective. Don't think that's a good thing.

That guy writes from a perspective of commanding highly motivated navy seals and he has the legal authority to have them thrown in confinement for insubordination. Basically has the power of a master over a slave with what is equivalent to the NFL of the military. Also he wrote that book to sell money. I promise you there are bad teammates. This western mentality that everything can be resolved with dialogue is almost a mental illness.

Mike, seriously you have no idea how inspirational you can be. I work in insurance and for you to move me like your move your own employees in a whole different type of job is crazy. I do so much self-reflecting when listening to what you say. Hopefully your boy can fix the few tiny things with communication so he can be even more successful than he has been! Running a business can become over whelming and its easy to fall into this depression trap. He needs support and feels completely alone. He can be turned around with the right support system especially when he's a franchisee and there is supposed to be a support system in place.

I am on the verge of buying into the franchise. This video filled me with hope. Mike understands extreme ownership. I will admit it, I am nervous. I have never owned a business, but I trust the system. I spoke with Lee and another franchise owner, and I know that if I am humble and work the system, I can succeed. Mike is fantastic! I can't wait to meet you, Sir.

My opinion is the lack of communication is from a lack of respect for others. Have to be able to take coaching to give it and the line about Chuck shows the fear for giving respect. I think he has potential to turn things around quickly and grow even more starting from there. I believe he could be a million dollar annual revenue with that type of switch. He has potential with strong support from his wife.

Great content! I've always told myself if I ever get to a point of having employees, that my first line at orientation will be "if you have a better way to do something speak up!" Not wanting to listen to someone who you feel is beneath you is a personal develop issues that takes a lot of patience and letting go to move past. But like Mike said, it's very liberating.

one thing I learned really quick when I started my lawncare company. I got ZERO people skills. I can sell jobs all day long, but when it comes to managing people. Nope. No one I have ever hired has lasted a week, and I know thats 100% a me issue. Kinda happy being a 1 person show at this point. I dont have the patience or the desire to manage people.

@@short0811 for me its mostly temper issues around mistakes and directions. If I gotta show the new guy more than 3 times how to make a Y turn on a zero turn so he dont rut up a yard. I explode. I walk up to the equipment rack and find its unlocked because they were lazy about locking it after grabbing the trimmer. I explode. I'm autistic and have my entire route and every yard to a die hard routine and throwing a wrench in that never ends well. Something no ones fault like a accident, or a mower blowing a belt, crap happens, but stupid mistakes and im zero to 100 X.x

@@pepsilove6306 Read up on Stoicism to help with your anger issues. I have a very similar issue with people that "Don't seem to care enough to do the work the right way" but it is 100% on ME to make sure they understand what my expectations are. Also it REALLY helps to understand that even a GREAT employee will only work up to 75% of your work ethic as an owner and that's OK. They aren't taking the risk of business ownership and don't have true stake in your business so why would they? I really wish you the best of luck if you do decide to work on yourself! They say don't hire friends but they can be the best workers. Especially if ya pay em good. I always dreamed of giving friends opportunity but it can come back and bite ya. More employees more chances of no shows. It's in the selection process for sure. You want team players, respectable, strong minded. Never done learning. Your p4p is sculpting the industry. Less ppl wanna do labour jobs. Just need some competitive ones that know how to get paid to workout!

@@pepsilove6306 it's a respect issue. you're disrespecting employees and if they're weak you're making them feel unsafe. if you wouldn't snap on your family or friends like that then don't do it to your employees over a simple mistake. be kind and understanding like you're dealing with a person you're trying to make your friend. if they aren't worthy of that then don't hire them in the first place.

Back when I was a employee, I would of hatted to work for someone like him, its always someone else’s fault with people like him. He might not be fit to run people, he’ll probably have more fulfillment staying as a owner operator or being a employee for someone else.

The advice that you are giving is realavent for every management or owner position. Being the " guy " for everything eventually leads to burnout, which I can attest to and you will make the mistake of losing good people in your business if you don't respect or listen to their input. It's not alwasys about the money, good employees just want to feel apart of someething good and see that they have value to your business. This advice is great for employees too, everyone just has to be a great listener and you learn alot from your customers, employees and other managers.

I agree, I’m 34 years old and am an operations manager over 400 people putting out 1.4 million pounds of product a week. It’s not about having immediate answers it’s about being able to figure it out on a daily basis and making it happen.

As someone that works for a small family owned business, rewarding good months is key. Take them out to dinner. Take them out for a fun day or something at like a range or a cook out. When you clear 75k in a month, what's $5-6-700 to show them you appreciate them. It keeps morale through the roof

Hey Mike greetings from down under here in Australia. I've had my own garden and lawn business for nearly 30 years here just outside of Sydney a mix of private and commercial clients I've built up over the years. I don't advertise and don't even have my trucks sign painted just good old fashion happy customer referrals. Anyway love the channel obviously ...this episode especially gave me a good laugh and if anything summed up the problem with your man here is at 16:03 in the video when he's leaning on the back of his truck chatting away whilst in the back ground some poor old dear is pushing a mower around doing her own lawn...!! You couldn't have rehearsed it better what a great (not) advert for his own business eh ?? Keep up the content son great to see a young bloke make a dollar by using his head not his back .

No way as an employee would i work for someone who treats people this way. No way as a customer would i continue to employ a service like this, that has a continuous turn over of employee's. both are bad for business. Big red flags. Customers have their favorite employee's. When they pay for service and get to know employees they like and trust, It causes them to question why they no longer show up. I along with alot of others went daily to a Walmart gas station for morning coffee and gas and to do a bit of socializing. The reason we did was because of the manager. She was very welcoming and was always smiling and friendly. Then one day we showed up and learned she had been fired and the reason she was fired and it didn't have anything to do with her not getting her work done or making a profit for Walmart, it was because she talked to much with the customers. As customers who enjoyed her and visiting with the other customers decided the reason for her being fired was so outrageous we stopped going there to get gas and morning coffee as well as other things we wanted or needed. The news spread and in less then a few months no one was stopping there except the occasional out of town people who didn't know. Many times I Passed by no one there except the employees car and they had to close the gas station portion. Imagine if we as customers can do that to a big corporate business what would happen to a small business like this one. This guy is the problem not his employee's. He's an out of control, control freak and blames everyone else for his problems and he tops it off acting like he's better then anyone he perceives to be beneath him. SMH I hope he reached out to his former employee's and apologized and offered them their jobs back and got real with them as well as himself. I know that would be a huge leap but it would be a good place to start.

I kinda concur with ya especially with customer and employee relationships. I’m wondering if this guy ever served in the military cause we know a thing or 2 about leasing and following. Ya can’t have one wo the other . We were also big on training and evaluations of our conduct & of course training that was in arduous and insane conditions , like working 96 hours non stop while traversing dangerous terrain in all kinds of dangerous weather and all hours of the days and nights . Having been in combat and doing well under fire was due to our intense training that we had been doing for a very long time . I think he just might be great at sales and needs to understand that and take a relationship course . The military forces ya to learn from soldiers from all walks of life & to do it so that your an effective killing unit . Well that’s my dos pfennigs for today , PROBST!

Mike, I’m struggling similarly with my exterior cleaning business. I believe it has to do with me hiring the wrong people. I had two awesome full-time employees during the summer, that just left for college. I’ve hired 3 people since. One didn’t show up to his first day, the other stopped showing up after 3 days, after asking for a pay advance for rent. I have a friend that has been working weekends with me for 6 months…. He won’t go full time with me, despite paying more than his current employer, because he sees more potential in working with that guy. The college guys were excellent workers. They both asked me if I’d be willing to hire them back next summer. I feel as if people love working with/for me. They just don’t see any actual future for a career in the company. I’m not sure how to fix that.

didn't show up on first day? instantly fired. stopped showing up? fired. asking for pay advance in the first couple of weeks? fired. don't ignore red flags, act on them instantly. otherwise you'll have bad people actively working for you and gaining influence in your company. the initial screening process is key.

That pretty much sums up seasonal work. The ones that just want paid then disappear are the worst. Went through this for years and decided to just work solo or cash for temporary help.

@@ducati135 Drove me nuts. It makes no sense to work, get one paycheck, then be in the same spot with your rent next month, because you quit after a couple weeks. I’ve gotten better now about hiring, because I’ve learned to be more judgmental in the hiring process.

His wife should not be in the discussions when he there as well. She is being nothing but an echo chamber. Obviously with her involved, and him being "vulnerable/emotional", that could end up bad when work time is over because then those emotions spill over into their personal lives/relationship. She needs to step out of it, and let him pull up the big boy pants to get down to the real grit.

I don't know why people are dunking on him in the comments. He didn't shut it down after going from four to zero. A lot of guys would have. He's going through a reset, but his actions don't show a guy who has given up on building a sizeable operation and resigned to solo operator. Many guys do. It's very freeing to know your mindset and perspective are the problem, not a skill or ability beyond your control. It takes time and effort to rewire how you think, but anyone can do it. Good luck 💪

Lets set ups a company in Medford , Oregon it would be a great place to get into the historical home areas. I would be open to your 60/40 split tell we get you paid back in full from the start up. If your interested I'm 100 percent willing to start a franchise there with you.

19:44 never act like that in front of your wife and kids ..MAYBE in private but she’ll quickly see you as a mentally weak person . Mike is right if you’re the leader then it’s all on you unless it’s clear as day that the employee is at fault

80 lawns a week lol and your complaining lmao if I had 80 lawns a week on my route I’d have Thursday - Sunday off! On Tuesdays my truck does 40, if we are short a crew sometimes 50+ How much an hr. Augusta ?Where do I sign up ?

good help is hard to find - not the easiest to run an entire crew, with personalities, perceptions etc. Just like any big corporation, they have entire training , indoctrination schedule "training" before someone gets in the real work. ..
