Advice some of those bad snowplows the liftgate on the dodge uses the same hydraulic valves. Take the valve from the snowplow and use it fir the liftgate, now it works.

I was a "C" Level Executive for a construction company and actually did go to an underperforming office and fire everybody except for the sales force which were not properly trained or supported. Two of the sales people quit voluntarily and six remained. This location was only producing $30,000 per month and in 60 days the office was generating over $250,000 per month of good business. Do NOT be afraid to get rid of BUMS!!! FREE ADVICE: 1. Sell what equipment you can and repair what you need. 2. Stop working for anybody who owes you money. 3. Get paid up front or immediately when the job is done (get credit card billing numbers from customers). 4. Consider raising your rates and losing 25% of your current customers. 5. Run a crew of no more than three men and yourself for a total of four and then do exemplary work! 6. MAKE FRIGGIN MONEY!!!!

Crazy finding this video. I know Jack and was an early customer with JacMac. What I can tell you is that the honesty and sincerity he conveys in this video is spot on. ive worked for a guy like him in the past and same problem, too nice. he wouldnt pay much at all to his employees because he wasnt making enough because he would price so low just to get the jobs. that was for two reasons, one was to fill the schedule to keep us busy and the other was him just severely undervaluing not just the work but the labor required from the employees to do the work. because of this you end up stuck in a loop because your only option is to raise prices but that is guaranteed to lose you customers which means letting go of some employees and short term making less revenue overall which seems like a step backwards but its not.

If you can get more money then get more money.Never feel bad about making more money. Best time to raise prices is when you are booked. Replace low paying customers with higher paying customers. Customers are a means to an end. They see service providers as nothing but a tool for them. They don't care about you. If they could get a job done for free while you are starving they would be ok with it. When you retire the only thing that will matter is what you have in savings not all the great work you did trying to save strangers money.

If you go used a good rule of thumb is once a truck breaks down you either need to get it in a garage or up for sale. If you say "I'll fix it once I have time" for more that 2 weeks you'll probably never have time or find something else to do when you do. I've had some sentimental trucks but the it's better to just take a picture and move on rather than dealing with the unending headaches of keeping a lemon on the road.

My old 14,500 gvw ford superduty is about $45 a month to insure. The high insurance may be due to the operators age and if you put employees on as drivers. Seems crazy high though. Employees are insanely expensive and someone will need to do the mountains of paperwork that goes along with them. My advice after being self employed for the last 26 years is keep things as simple as possible, spend money on things that actually make you money and not on expensive equipment that looks cool. Around 75% of what I do involves a wheelbarrow, shovels, rakes and other simple tools. Work quickly and smartly and keep your customers happy - you will have more work than you can physically do and you will never need to advertise. Working all the time will burn you out and you’ll probably find that you don’t make that much more anyway.

I'd snatch that box truck with the broken lift up in a heartbeart. I'd just cut the lift off the back and sell it for scrap. I'd bust out my welder, put a big spring assisted loading ramp on the back similar to the Ramp Racks on it and call it a day. I'm so sick of messing with trailers I wanna move on to a box truck, but finding used box trucks here is a nightmare.

Why scrap a lift gate before attempting to fix. A blown fuse, rotten or broken wire, leaked out hydraulic fluid, a relay. An hour of investigation/repair could fix it. Most all repairs are on KZbin as common failure modes occur by the thousands.

Problem with landscaping is that anybody can do it. The barriers to entry are so low and you don't need a license. Work by yourself and keep all the money. You don't need employees to make a lot of money. I see single person landscape / lawncare companies all over where I live and they are killing it. When you have a crew to pay you're just running your ass off trying to keep the work coming in. I can take home 30K a month in my construction business working by myself easy. Many months a lot more. If I want to go on a 2 week vacation, no problem I just keep my schedule open. No debt + No employees = No Problems.

WOW! I am really impressed with that hardscape you guys made! Beautiful work! I will eco what I have seen here. You need to sell what isn't being used. You definitely need to increase your pricing. If you are charging $75 an hour and have 3 employees plus yourself, you have to charge more or you aren't going to keep up. You're probably the cheapest guy out there. Don't take every job just bc it pays money. Not everything is a good deal. Specialize in a couple areas and don't spread yourself thin! Keep your head up man. Reviews and word of mouth is going to help. When you're making more money, don't get excited to hire more employees. Maybe a new guy here or there as long as your business is still profitable. But if you start losing, you gotta go back to what was making money even if you have to let people go. Best of luck!

my neighbor started up a landscaping business, dude bought a brand new toyota raptor, trailer, and equipment. he was doing good. even made 20k one job, but long story short he was not organized and I tried helping him but he was just too impatient. ended up selling it all and well made more mistakes hes no longer here. really sad because I try helping others but I couldn't work for free or for the tiny cash he offered with 0 training. he had all the tools, but buying brand new things was just a big nono even I know that's wild.

I couldn’t work a day with all that equipment laying around , be like a millstone around my neck. Felt bad for the guy . But for me employees sucked me down and I don’t blame them . I was too nice . Two years ago I spent 60 grand in wages , next year I got rid of the help except a part timer that works after 5 pm and Saturday mornings ish . I only took 30 grand off the top line . Just worked way more efficient . Quit the work I didn’t want to do . Now I try hit 1000 day with no or little help . Some days I hit it some I don’t . Not to much stress . Just worry about the job I’m on . I think he can make good money with him and his employee . Enjoy the day , the week and treat his girlfriend to a nice dinner the odd sat night . Wish u the best Jac Mac . U don’t deserve those hard years when you work so hard . You want to enjoy that sun on your face .

Hi I’m Adrian and I went through 3 interviews with one of your franchise owners in Marietta and I was denied the job do to the fact I didn’t understand or pick up quickly on the counter clockwise string trimming technique and I have more than 4 years experience in the field !! I was upset because Im a dedicated person and hit hard by life I lost my car my old job as a professional truck driver and living in a hotel lodge with my daughter and wife!! I woke at 6am this morning in the cold waiting for the bus just to be told after the 3rd yard I wasn’t going to be a good fit , i was paid 40 dollars and wasn’t even offered a ride to the transfer station which is 5 mins away from the storage unit we met at this morning I asked but in all I felt he didn’t care about my situation after I told him my situation!! This guy should've found and hired an employee that knows how to work on vehicles. They can be a life saver and save you a ton of money in the long run even with a bonus here and there for getting things fixed. Although this guy is long past that point.

The lost title thing is crazy... Either the previous owner should apply for a lost title and replace it or he takes the "vehicle" back... If it turns out to be a stolen "vehicle" leave the problem with seller and get away from it.

How can u lose a title ? All that Important stuff should be in a file folder and in a closet in box or even better in a safe…when a vehicle is paid off, you get letter from bank and then that letter goes in envelope with title in the folder..I do not understand unorganized people at all…

​@Loki_Dokie I'm a multiple business owner and consult with several others. One of the biggest causes of bad decisions in business is not knowing your numbers. Emotions, no matter what they are in combination with not knowing those numbers will crash just about any business. The other mistake I see is business owners a year or two in think that employees will do the work and they can just back off.
