It is more difficult than ever to focus because of the constant distractions around us from social media to video games to the news. But there is a super-skill we can build and cultivate to get focused in a world of distractions. Inspired by Cal Newport, the ideas in this video allow us to tap into the super-skill of Deep Work to accomplish more in less time. This is how we will get ahead of 99% of people and succeed in the coming digital renaissance.

1. Focus on one single task avoid multitasking, if you want to improve ur focus as a beginner it's better to use pomodoro or flowmodoro 2. Tolerate boredom, control it 3. Drain shallowness, show finding excuses, and completely focus only the most prior task at hand

1. Focus on 1 thing at a time for as long as possible 2. Tolerate boredom 3. Plan
@anonymous96181
@anonymous96181 Жыл бұрын
For tolerating boredom, here are some tips for you: 1. Delete all forms of games, social media platforms, etc; Any application that will get you distracted. 2. Use your boredom to plan out your day/life. Writing it out can help give you a better image. 3. Change your environment to amp your boredom even further. My go-to spot is usually the library, but I have seen my high school peers studying at places like Starbucks too. As long as there's people around, you'll most likely be less inclined to procrastinate compared to when you're alone at home. Just make sure there's internet connection available.

I don't think this works. Dropping hobbies like playing in your free time is not a good approach. I am also incredibly skeptical of people who say you should redefine your hobbies, drop menial things like games altogether and blah blah. These "life gurus" are often nobodies with no credentials who are blurting out bullshit promising that it will make you magically happy - it won't, it's harder than that, and not every second of your existence needs to be dedicated to productivity. Also, the issue with quitting cold turkey is that it's actually the easy but non working way out. You are skipping the work to learn how to regulate something - so, at your next exposure to it, you are right at the start and you get hooked again. You wanted to skip the work to regulate your relationship with something, you decided to quite from addictive thing X specifically would be an alternative to learning and practicing discipline, and this will bite you in the back forever.

I also used to have troubles getting and staying in deep work , however, one of the most helpful tips I’ve received and now practice daily is falling in love with learning. One thing that all hyper successful people have in common is their love for learning. Instead of spending their free time watching pointless movies or endlessly scrolling on social media, they learn or study subjects that are either interesting to them or relates to their career. If you think learning is boring you have to change that. That’s your mind associating learning with negative emotions which were probably derived from boring subjects at school. You have to find a way to harness your inner curiosity (this will make learning enjoyable) & competitiveness (this will allow you learn or be in “deep work” for longer). Deleting social media apps can help if you have troubles getting into deep work. Social media, especially short form content (tik tok, insta reels, yt shorts) drains your dopamine receptors and therefore, makes learning less enjoyable because you’ve used up all the pleasure chemicals in your brain. You need to conserve those pleasure chemicals for your study sessions. Not saying that you can’t watch movies or be on social media at all, you just have to control yourself, which is hard but, that’s part of the challenge.

Thanks Cajun Koi. Your description of productive procrastination just explained what I went through during my last semester of my undergrad degree. I was constantly looking for active work such as cleaning, meal prep, organizing, or exercise, that by the time I was done, I felt too tired to accomplish my needed studying or schoolwork. I validated my time spent by doing things that "felt productive" yet in actuality, I was just avoiding my priority task. Because of your video, I'm going to back to my drawing board and try to be more intentional with my tasks by planning the day out prior. Thanks again.

What I do for my days, wake up about an hour and 20 before I have to leave, take a shower, put on deodorant and all that stuff brush hair etc, then eat breakfast and have a glass of water (helps a lot trust me, just a medium glass), then chill for a bit then it’s time to leave. Next get all my work done that I can during school hours and do homework if I have some then just chill and unwind after school. I have all A grades, this method works really good for me.

Actually planning or even jotting down simply what you'll do with a side Mission makes your planning more successful. For example, i wate up at 6:22 and get cleaned up/ freshen up, do my exercise and sometimes even bath before 8/ 7:40 and on the given mark I call my friend to wake them up. It creates a pressure time.

Eating, resting, sleeping, studying, researching, goddamn even while taking a shit I have this issue. Yes it helped me in entrance exams... and my college years... but In my job people started to make fun of me because of my overly focused nature....I closed all distractions from social accounts, cut off most of the friendships, just to stay focused. At a time I feel stressed and sleeplessness due to that. Which overall decreases my learning efficiency....well still I was top of my class but at what cost? Now I have no friends... a shit 9 to 5 night duty job and a lonely stressed hyper focused mind.
