Ya, I'm kind of the same way. I'm enjoying this series because of Zach and Mike. But I don't think I'd be able to enjoy Dust myself if I played it.

Played it myself for a couple hours, did what i had to to see what the end was like, and a lot of parts felt pretty unintuitive, or were just blatantly un-fun(like trying to traverse Zion with all that fog. I actually disabled the Wendigo just so I could try to explore without it being a constant 1-2 shot nuisance). For what a single person could do, it's not bad, necessarily, but there's way better options out there, I feel.

@@lsfaraone Flame based weapon is your friend here; the tricks to DUST, fire, but of course, unless you know exactly where the manually placed fire weapon then you could rush it. Heck, having a flare gun/ makeshift flamer always a bless in DUST, tunnelers, spores and wendigo are all afraid of fire, but they're still dangerous to deal with in pack. It's actually doable, since you can exploit fighting them by reaching up to higher ground, you know, some of that tall boulder rock? just climb it up there and those guys will ignore ya.

DUST 2.0 Manan's Tweaks DUSTed Tweaks DUST Reasonable Needs Tunneler Fix with those, the mod is not only "playable" but extremely enjoyable. DUST Fast Travel & The Courier Companion eases burdens as well. Other "cheat mods" can be utilized, Solar's Bottle Water, Ban's Dupe This, an army of NCCS companions, whatever you want. Don't let one-time play thru commentators here dissuade you from trying it. If you're using a PC just make a copy of the entire Data folder and put it aside, load up DUST and try it. Switch out Data folders when DUST gets tired, play vanilla FNV for a while, try it again. (Data folder switching is the way to keep modded games anyway, mod managers do a poor job of that)

The random explosions are due to the insanity system, your lvl goes up the more people you kill, there are ways to lower it though, stealing stuff sometimes says it lowers, and some meds say it does and alcohol does aswell if I remember right, love the episodes and loved the "Loot ghoul" part I got a good laugh out of that. Other than Zion I know of 3 other ways of getting out, if you go zion bring lots of fire the stick creature that hunts you runs like a tunneler if you hit it with fire.

For example, dirty bomb, this weapon here deploy +20 per tick radiation blast radius for 30 sec that's enough to kill player, but not human NPCs like WTF?! It's useless, literally useless in DUST as human NPCs in Fallout 3 and New Vegas do not gain radiation because you gonna get that Oblivion radiant AI meme where NPCs gonna kill each other just to eat food if there is no food, imagine if NPCs in fallout eating all that irradiated consumables/ standing in radiation zone in daily basics LOL

And that you need to go to the Strip BEFORE you go to McCarran… Areas of escape: 1. Then traverse The Long Dark and it’s endless winding tunnels to make it to the Divide. Train tunnel just north East of Nipton. (You need 30 c4 to blow it open, it will then take you to the flooded Big MT, where you discover where all of Lake Mead's water went due to the TAP wanting to “scrub the Big MT clean”, avoid the battles between the BoS and the technoraiders to find the Big MT teleported that will take you to safety). 3. Vertibird in camp McCarran (there’s a lv100 lock on the OUTSIDE of the Vegas walls that will lead to Gammora, Clear out Gammora and use the back doors to get into the Tops, from there go onto the Strip (avoid the fog it shifts) and find your way into the Lucky 38, find the key in the Lucky 38 that will open the Embassy, find the key in the Embassy to open the rail line that will take you to McCarran. Inside is filled with hostile NCR and outside is filled with radiation and Ghouls. The means of escape is outside in the training area, you will need to complete a gauntlet and park core your way up to the vertibird. I like how it's pretty obvious that the mod author just changed vanilla NPCs into feral ghouls/cannibals/whatever, like the bleeding skeletons and one of the NCR soldiers having Arcade's voice.

After my first playthrough I wanted to know what had happened to a lot of characters, so I spawned them in with their base IDs and they amount of effort that the mod author put in to warp some of the NPCs is insane. Some characters he just killed or deleted, but most he transformed into cannibals or insane survivors. I think Boone turned into an unrecognizable cannibal, Cass was dead, Veronica was hostile and wearing NCR armor, Julie Farkas was insane, and Doc Mitchell went from an old man to a young dead female plague victim. Ironically enough it probably would’ve been easier to just disable most of the vanilla assets and make new NPCs

@@0lionheart iirc it's cuz the mod author wasn't a very skilled modder, so replacing NPC's or changing them in the way they did was just simply the faster, easier option. You COULD actually change things more thoroughly, but they'd have to meticulously change things across the entire game, and that's far more work than a single person is usually willing to put up with.

And I know he doesn't like energy weapons, but when all you have are horrible junk guns, you have to use whatever your can find. Plus, he has Jury Rigging, so even a "broken" energy weapon would be useful for repairing a better energy weapon.

4:00 So regarding the radiation exposition, 1000 rads are 100% deadly to a human, while upwards of 200 rad would cause ARS symptoms. On the flip side, unhardened microchips break in the range of 1000 to 20'000 rads. If they're radiation hardened, that number goes up to 1'000'000 rads. If it's using micro vacuum tubes instead of microchips., it's pretty much infinite. Zach would be unconscious for a long time before Mike would even be at risk. So they're both wrong.

I agree, with the caveat that Chestbreach plays the quest mods out, so if you download an old mod and get stuck, you can find Al's video to help solve your problems. Mike cuts & edits to keep a story line & pacing going, which is certainly a valid approach. All other fallout playthru video series & players blow dethclaw d!cks.

No it starts in '81. But Dust is set 20 years after New Vegas, so it's supposed to be set in 2301, but the Pip-Boy was never changed to show 2301 instead of 2281.
