Hi Mike - first off, have learned so much from your videos, you have no idea how helpful they are to a DIY homeowner - thank you for them! Quick question - I extended the slab on my side door stoop almost 2 weeks ago (was my first try at pouring concrete) - tied new pour into existing slab with lag bolts and shields - but I did a poor job finishing it (a bit uneven, swirl marks, etc). Should I wait the full 28 day cure period to overlay the whole slab with newcrete? (can I use quikrete sand topping for overlay?) Or can I go ahead and overlay/resurface now? Thanks again Mike!

I used to work for a company that did bridge deck overlays. We would drag a chain across the decks to find unsound concrete. It makes a distinct, hollow sound over the bad stuff.
@Magickmoon
@Magickmoon Жыл бұрын
Wetting the surface before the placing the new cement will help to remove the "pinholes" that you saw appear on the new cement surface plus it also helps to bond the new cement to the old, otherwise the old concrete will absorb the water from the newly laid cement and it will dry incorrectly! Good luck

Stumbled on this video when looking to see if there's any new products. I use re-cap resurfacer and it requires the old concrete to be dampened with water before applying. This stops the pin hole issue. Might be similar with Ardex? I do check sound with my hammer or my chisel, nice to see I'm not crazy for doing that lol

Great job Mike!!!! This is actually time consuming and hard work. I’ve done this too many times, therefore, I share your struggles. Right now I’m stuck with a tibial plateau fracture. All I know is “construction work” and don’t know what else I can do to make a living😔 Anyhow, Good thing about what you and I do is; “if you love what you’re doing, you never work a day in your life”🤙🏼 Your a true Champ Mike!!!💪🏼 God always bless you and your team!!!

Great video! I have this exact problem going on due to the rain/snow pooling on the patio. Thinking I'll have to grind out the loose stuff like you explained, resurface and do an epoxy on top to repel away the water. Can you recommend any concrete product that i can build up to create a slight angle so the water rolls off the patio? I don't want to have to be very thick for the patio doors clearance. Thanks again!

We use CementAll from Rapid Set to build up for a slight angle. You can get it at HDepot. If you can't shape it to your desire when installing it, you can grind a slight slope in it after it hardens.

My concrete sidewalks started surface pitting, crackling , and crumbling soon after installation. As I walk around the old neighborhood, I see occasional cracks in the old concrete sidewalks and lifting from tree roots (without any pitting), but I don't see what I see on our sidewalk and driveway. Has the formula for making concrete changed making the new sidewalks inferior and not durable like old sidewalks?

Hi Mike. Would resurfacing help to prevent condensation in my cold room
@MikeDayConcrete
@MikeDayConcrete 4 жыл бұрын
No, Condensation happens one of two ways: Either the air is cooled to its dew point or it becomes so saturated with water vapor that it cannot hold any more water. Dew point is the temperature at which condensation happens. When warm air hits the cold surface, it reaches its dew point and condenses. Resurfacing won't stop that.
