35 years ago I think I could have kept up with you guys but today I'm worn out and couldn't. You guys show a lot of skill but like you even said it's the good relationship you and your guys have. I've worked with guys like that and it makes the job easier more so on days when you don't feel so hot. Keep up the good work.
@timbutler89 Жыл бұрын
Not a problem. All looks pretty much normal to me. Then again, I have trained a lot of guys using design mixes and stamping so I'm probably just a bit mad in the head. I've worked in Nairobi Kenya, Uk, Italy, and all over Ireland as an installer and trainer. I actually wrote my thesis on decorative concrete for my honours degree in Contemporary Art. Now I teach construction basics to the younger generation. Love the Channel so keep it up Mike.

I've been around concrete flatwork just enough to know that you guys make a hard job look easy and, for that matter, like a Rembrandt! You'd probably have to fire me after the first day as I figure this older guy wouldn't be able to keep up. One thing I know, though.......I might be worn out at the end of the day but I'd be a whole lot smarter about concrete! Hey, Mike, thank you for putting these videos together (a job in itself). It's nice being able to watch and learn as a crew of craftsmen perform their "magic" with a truck load of concrete. Take care.

Honestly I’ve felt I’ve been on every pour you’ve done. And amazingly I’m not the least bit tired at the end of the day.😊 Truthfully though I could step right in and feel right at home after watching all your videos. I’ve done it enough and after watching you do it and your approach I could blow the mud with you. I think one thing that goes unnoticed is the fact that a big key in any pour is the driver. If you got to coach the driver in to what to do, you could be in for some frustration. Most of the guys around here are pretty seasoned but I can see it coming that the younger generation isn’t stepping into these jobs soon enough and the no experience is going to cost them. Nice work as always to you and your crew!

Another great video, Mike. Luke, Darrin, and you make a great team. I do enjoy the new format too. Sometimes you narrate what you are doing, and other times, you let the sounds of the construction site do the talking. I also want to commend you as an owner/boss. You are willing to share all the chores with your crew. I do the same thing where I work. I supervise 15 police officers at our crime lab, and I have told them, "I will never ask you do something that I'm not willing to do myself." I sweep, mop the floor, take out the trash, wash their police crime scene vans, etc. Mike, you and I are still part of the team, we just have a different job title. Keep the videos coming. God's blessings to you all.

First, let me say that you and your entire crew are at a level that is beyond journeyman. Yes, you do make it look very easy in all kinds of weather. My family was cement masons back in the day and as a kid I learned that what you see is harder than it looks. My daughters know how to mix concrete, yours know how to finish. Congrats. I enjoy your jobs that show how to and why. I never stayed in the construction industry (went IT because AC/Heat). One thing I like to add is when I deal with contractors and asked them questions about materials and installation, they look at me like how would you know. Once again, thanks for you great videos.

Mike you sir are truly the king of concrete.The way in which you move that slump make looks so easy-to-use, but we know it isn't. You need a team of guys that knows how to work and finish. And at the end of the day it all comes down to respect for the team and the willingness to finish the project.

@phillipsprangiii3112 Жыл бұрын
Let's review the basics, from the standpoint of "the set of the bar": No yelling; loudest voice was the mixer driver. Economy of movement': you make it look consistently easy...almost effortless, if I didn't know better. Cooperation: you work as a team with a seamless fluidity that is a wonder to behold. Knowledge of your craft: masters says it all, and succinctly. I'm 70, been in the trade since dirt was new. Still have my own 10 yarder; that's the depth of my insanity. An old (1964) aluminum frame Mack. For those saturday night/Sunday can't reschedule pours. Some highlights of my transit across the territory of mud: 1,000 foot seawall, 10' high, 8" thick...shotcrete on a braced bulkhead of Symons forms, in alternating 90' sections...on bay mud west of S.F.O. (airport, Bay Area)...where the tide rose and fell 4' over a 24 hour period, so the screeding crew did the bottom half, set up scaffolding and did the top with the water lapping at their feet. 14-day break-out tests over 11k, which was lucky for all involved: with seven days of cure on the finished 1,000 feet the Loma Prieta earthquake hit...and nothing failed. Then there's the 300'x300' heated slab in two pours with the trucks lined up down the road 7 at a time and a crew of oh, about 24 guys all told... with that said, I'm a rookie compared to you guys. If I came looking for a job with you I'd just ask quietly whether you might let me pull mud and mag some edges for a day or two before you paid me.

You mean like when you pull up on a job and there are 25 trucks sitting in line [ cold weather ] and they empty their loads in a flash and more trucks start pulling in before they are all finished and being bottom on totem pole we`d have our 500 yards down in a flash and I would be headed home by 12 noon with 8 hrs pay.
@markprater4016 Жыл бұрын
Absolutely. I already have worked on 1,000,000 Sq ft jobs for General Motors, Walmart and some other companies. We traveled all over pouring mostly flat work but some loading docks also. I also set tons of forms, both prefab and we built forms also..
@markprater4016 Жыл бұрын
On that GM job we were pouring 75,000 Sq ft a night. They actually set up a batch plant on site because we were on flint Michigan and they were afraid of trying to get concrete through the traffic fast enough. We had the 16 foot laser screed and that thing really put down the mud.

I used to sub occasionally for my buddy’s company when he was short handed. That was 30 years ago or more. Most things are still done the same way, and my buddy was a concrete perfectionist so, even though I only subbed a few times, I know what’s done and a bit about how it’s done the right way. So my head says, yes I could work with you. My body however, is old and weak now, so no, if we’re being real, there’s really no way I could do the job today and pull my weight. I wouldn’t mind subbing without pay just to try my hand at it again and to get somewhat in shape.

Hey Mike, I left California for Maine in August 2020. I have decades of experience placing & finishing concrete & I would very much like to work with you and your crew. How do I contact you? I live in Norway and haven't any real connections around here so it's been frustrating trying to find concrete work since granite & asphalt seems to be the prevalent materials commonly used. Thanks a lot, I really enjoy your vids, keep up the great work!
