There's a guy up in Canada Names Brent Show Called Half assed customs. He's computer programmer or something by day after work he builds amazing stuff from nothing. He's got 4' by 8 or bigger homemade plasma water table he made for 700.00 bucks. He explained it in one of his episodes. Super mellow like yourself. Just him and pablo his dog. He's all self taught. Check it out. Thanks.

Mike do you by chance know the wire gauge on the BestArc power input, I got a lotos, have not used it. Has 12ga current with 14 ga neutral. Lotos, similar spec profile, 12 ga Seems skimpy. Too skimpy for 50A, Lotos people say its rated 30A. I could still return it for bestarc $100 cheaper

Hi Mike, love all your videos. I have a question: did you build your super thick steel welding table with the equally spaced holes (1/2 inch maybe??) all over? I assume that must be a standard type of plate available with holes already in it? What is the thickness and where would I find something like that? Thanks! -Mike.

Mike, magnetic strips are found in the seals of refrigerator and freezer doors, and a tube of adhesive from Dollar Tree would also suffice. Some time ago, a teacher asked me to source some magnetic strips, so I got them after asking from an appliance store. Her students made magnetic refrigerator signs for the fridge.

I bought the Omni pro 220,Unlimited 200,Titanium spoolgun,Amico CTS-180 & Yeswelder Mig205DS from your reviews. I noticed the Yeswelder Mig250pro sitting between the Vulcan and plasma in this video. Thanks for sharing this video. I'm always looking for another project and this seems like and easily doable one for me. I do not have a plasma torch yet but I will be sure to check out the best arc brand. I really like your magnetic rulers, good idea. I recently purchased a small fab table, I found it on amazon but then went to the suppliers site and it was a little cheaper. it's not near as robust as yours but seems a little better than the NT or HF models ( I don't know) any way, thanks for putting your time and effort into these vids

My cable provider Direct TV left a frame on my roof an angle iron frame for the dish. I canceled it because we don't watch tv any longer cuss its all rubbish. So I pitched off the roof and saved it. The wife kept telling me to get rid of it. Lucky I didn't because that's going to be my frame for a cutting table. 🙂

Thanks Mike for the tips. Very timely as I’ve been coincidentally designing a similar water tray for my welding table. My plan was to have the grid permanently attached but be able to swing down out of the way and add a rail underneath to slide in a water tray. I was going to fab up the water tray. Not sure why I didn’t think of the restaurant steam tray as I use a deep one under my 2x72 belt grinder. 🤦‍♂️ Good thing I’m still in the design phase. 😜

Bargreen ellingson is a chain of restaurant supply wholesalers that happen to be open to the public. Stuff like that metal tray can be found in every shape and size shockingly inexpensive and very high quality. I'm quite prone to breaking things, but I hate plastic. I was able to get something like 36 pint glasses for $20. I have bounced these things off of concrete. There's a ton of stuff that is really useful in the shop. In particular, stainless steel sheet goods, some great tool storage and organization, but mostly it's just that you can be certain that everything there is extremely durable and well made despite being very inexpensive.

Most woodworkers that use routers have a jig that lets you easily cut dados exactly where you want them. Its basically a straight edge that has a strip of plywood the exact size of your offset thats on a piano hinge. you line it up with the center line of the dado, flip the offset piece out of the way, then run your router across the straight edge. I bet that would work great for a plasma cutter. Just add a couple strips of magnets on the main straight edge. Tamar on the 3x3custom YT channel made one not long ago titled "Easy and Accurate Router Edge Guide // Woodworking Jig // Great for Dados and Grooves." you'll get the idea in the first couple seconds of the video

Great video! my only concern is that you fully welded in your slats so what are you going to do when they wear out? Would removable slats be more desirable?
@Mikefestiva
@Mikefestiva 2 жыл бұрын
Probably not worth the time to make them removable, my CNC table slats are holding up great for the past two years of cutting. I would say that in 5 years you may need to change them out, you could add a second set of slats right along side the original ones or just plasma cut out the older ones and weld in new ones. It’s probably not something to worry about. Thanks for checking out my new video 👍

The only thing I would do differently would be to make the bars in the middle of the table removable so that once they have been cut into and about to fall apart I could replace them with ease instead of grinding out the welds or making a new table.
@Mikefestiva
@Mikefestiva 2 жыл бұрын
If you plasma cut often you will know it would take years of cutting on these slate before you come close to actually cutting the 1” bar stock all the way through. I have had a few people mentioning this exact thing to me already, from my experience over the past few years cutting on my CNC plasma table, the slates may get small cut marks in them, but will hold up for many years to come. Sometimes simplicity is better then overthinking. Take care Zachary.

Hey Mike. Love your videos. Have used many of your ideas and you have inspired many others. I try to keep my shop as clean as possible too. It's a never ending battle. Something I wanted to mention was a way to trap most of the shaving from your Evolution saw. I have the same one and you likely know this, but if you put a good magnet in a small snack size zip lock bag it will catch most of those shards & chips from your Evolution cut off saw. There is a good spot to place it right where this chips hit the back. Unzip the ziplock bag over a trash can & pull off bag inside out to empty shavings. I have upgraded that idea with a mini mag safe magnet with switch on and off. If bag big enough simple turn on and off the magnet w/o ever opening the bag. Works so well I have another one under my Porta Band Saw table (inspired by you). You have helped me find simpler ways to improve my shop, I'm hoping you never tried this so I can help you out in your shop.

That's a slick little setup. I can't remember the name of the model line but Ikea has extremely affordable stainless steel racks made for plates. They fold away when not in use, they are designed for just washed dishes like the classic European over the sink cabinet with no bottom. Is less than $10 for a 12-in by 16 in rack but they have all kinds of different rack designs that are modular and come in various sizes. I'm not sure the exact reason why, but the stainless used in these is remarkably consistent in terms of thickness. Not quite dowel pins, but not coat hangers either. I have found this line of kitchenware to be really useful everywhere except the kitchen. Cheap too!
