Awsome info Mike! I'm a farmer here in middle TN and also an aviation freak . Love to fly and build experimental airplanes here on the farm and internet service absolutely sucks here and I'm only 20 miles south of Nashville. I follow Trent Palmer on U-Tube and a few months ago he installed a Starlink Mini on the roof of his airplane. He 3-D printed a mount to keep it secure and he actually uses it while flying. Works great! Now I think many pilots are installing them in their airplane. Really great to be able to connect with the internet in the backcountry in case of emergency. Starlink is a game changer for camping. Not so much for play because the whole point of camping for me is to get away from people and technology but it definitely could be vital in emergency situations and I think is a must have item in todays world. Love your content man and thank you for educating people on how to be prepared for chaos on a massive scale.

Just got our setup together. I managed to pack it all in a pelican case. Multiple power options, portable bank, solar inputs with 50w solar panel. Tripod, the works. It is extremely important to establish and maintain coms. Starlink has changed the game. The mini is a revolutionary unit in my opinion.

Love the baby cameo! Good break down video, Mike. We recently got a mini. I made my own case from a Harbour Freight box. When running from inside the closed container, it does in fact get warm. I'm going to add a usb-c pass-through to use the mini sitting outside while leaving the battery bank inside the waterproof container.

I have the Starlink Actuated and we use it in our fifth wheel, while camping and working. It works good, as long as I have a VERY clear line of sight to the sky. I have it integrated with my peplink 5G router. Wifi signal isn't my concern; it's trees, honestly. I still would like to see stats on overhead obstructions and while moving. My wife works, as I drive and this is a gamechanger for those areas of the country where cellular signal is weak. Great review!!!

Make sure you store your Starlink mini in a Faraday bag, along with an old mobile phone and a portable battery with Usb-C you can run Starlink off Anker or Ugreen battery packs. Then you are really protected when SHTF.

Mike, this was fantastic! Since Helene, I've been concerned about comms "in the event." I'm in a small city couple hrs N of Atlanta... Was rural, now sinking fast into suburbia. {sigh} Our subdivision has really crappy cell signal... My phone uses wifi in the house. Been mulling over HOW do I stay connected if the power (or internet/cable) goes out. Spending a week without my computer once was HELL! Biz AND personal ... fortunately I had just bought a mini-PC, so was able to set that up and limp along till my desktop came back from the hospital. But that DOUBLED my urgency to find some way to keep a connection. Starlink looks to be it -- but it's been SO confusing trying to figure out which is what! I don't camp, I don't travel, I don't use a computer outdoors! I just want a reliable 'back-up' internet. If I can let my neighbor 'tie-in' so much the better! I use starlink everyday at my main house. The Wi-Fi runs my security cameras ect so I leave it on. I have another one at my bug out property in Tennessee that I’m developing love it. And my wife has one that she uses when she goes camping with her mom. Now that the mini is out…damnit….its a game changer. The biggest advantage is the low power draw that’s DC‼I will sell my wife’ rig and get her a mini. The big ones are good for a stationary setup for running security cams like arlo in places where you have enough power.

If your looking for accessories, I just watched a video where a guy used a ANKER 27650 power bank to run his mini, he tested 2 different ANKER power banks to see if they would work.. to my surprise, the 27650 powered it for 3 hours, could be handy in an emergency

I love the idea. We use these at work for backup Internet and go kits for when a site's fiber goes down, but we use the panel that has a wired connection. I would love to see the ability to use this with a USB-C Ethernet adapter and the ability to turn off built in WiFi.

We have about 10 gen 2 actuated starlinks for our crews that work on wildfires and SAR operations (we are drone pilots) I can attest that they are very clunky and the internal motors have failed on a few of them just due to the crazy environments we are in. That being said, I have been all over the place and it always works. They also can take a beating from dust, snow, rain, etc. Esential piece of kit for us. We even have a truck with a canopy and when placed inside it has 0 effect on connection, pretty wild.

I bought the precut foam with case from Amazon. I like the Harbor Freight case better. I haven't tried fitting all the stuff in the apache case yet. It's smaller than the Amazon case. But the Harbor Freight is heavier and stronger. Maybe someone sells the better foam insert for Harbor Freight. The cost is about the same unless you get the 20% coupon

I’ve done a bunch of treetop mounts for both actuated and the new standard dishes. I haven’t seen anybody mount them the way I do with a custom mount. They work great, even in heavy wind. Couldn’t be happier!

Starlink is coming out with starlink to regular cell phone service (direct to phone) not repeated from cell towers without any special equipment but it has to have sky visibility and is slow I hear, but still very interesting. The mini is cool you can strap it on your back and literally on the move get up to 100mbps!

PCI race radios/ Unique compondntry sells mini, Gen2 12v, and Gen3 12v packages. Gen2 uses more power and faster than mini. Gen3 best speeds but more power than gen2. All are made mobile, mobile on auto, and mobile - rv camping. Expensive kits but awesome. Mini doesn’t have 100 ft range,?it’s more like 20 ft. Satgear also has 3 in 1 kits. My use is mag mount for truck, pole for rv, and mag mount for roof jeep or sxs . Soon as I win the lotto, I’ll get it. . I think you get the best info from pci. I think they know Race comms better than everyone else.

The only thing about a real SHTF situation that is larger than regional (aka the NC type situation) is the ground stations for Starlink. They still run on ground based fiber connections. If those go down, the system goes down. Luckily in a regional sense, it's about the most resistant system you could have since it could bounce around to known working ground stations in other places (at the cost of some speed). But from a standpoint of "what will be the last working ISP before it all goes offline?" Probably Starlink.

👍👍GREAT PRODUCT FOR SHTF....I have had the Starlink Gen 2 for over 2 yrs now mounted on a pole on my RV, I have the roaming account, I do a lot of "Boondocking" and have never lost a signal with Starlink, I'm able to use the WiFi calling on my cell Phone when there is no Cell Towers available. No matter where I'm at I have the internet for my computer for uploading/downloading videos data at 5g speed, the signal from the router is so strong I'm able to have my friends that are boondocking nearby log onto my Starlink.

Here's the thing. Will the apps and network be available if SHTF. Who running the program when the world is falling apart. I know the satelites would be good to go but there are other aspects to operations probably. It may not work when SHTF. I still think it's cool and worth having though.

Question. Think grid/comms down scenario. No cell range or service. If you have your Starlink service paused (because it’s in storage for emergencies), how do you reactivate service? I had a friend run out of data and had to add or change plans to get service restored. He couldn’t because he was deep in the woods with no cell reception to reactivate service (2 factor authentication).

I got the Milwaukee battery option because, in my opinion Milwaukee batteries are the best in the cordless tool world. I have had extreme real world testing of the batteries. I always take my drills with me and Sawzall , so why not power the the starlink with it? Haven't used it with the starlink mini yet, but if I can run 3 inch screws for 2 weeks without a charge . I burned up other brands that were new.

I believe Starlink still relies on basestations and everything now is connected through on the grid servers. If SHTF and power grids go down Starlink would have connectivity issues? Correct me if I’m wrong please.

They have ground stations all over the world. Google the ground station map. As long as every grid is not targeted, you should still have coverage. It will be slower but, you wont be without internet.
